Regular 137 Lansing, Michigan | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays I've found that the scale is useful, but only in combination with fat calipers. Back when I started this challenge on 7/29/11, I was 203.2 lbs (215 that Jan, 210 that March). Although I was working out and eating well, my weight plateaued at around 195 in August... but if you look at %body fat, it steadily decreased through my half mary in October. As for the 203.5 lbs as of my 30th b-day.... I... errr.... ummm..... I had to grow a beard for the cold Missouri winters and added on some midsectional tonnage to insulate those long treks to the end of the driveway to put out recycling and trash. But even the stout (and IPA) belly didn't put me behind where I was last year (or this past July) in terms of % Body fat. So, I guess what I am trying to say (aside from that I slacked off this winter) is that don't get discouraged if the scale isn't your best friend. Maybe you need to spice things up between you and the scale with some fat calipers.

Regular 137 Lansing, Michigan | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays Glad to see all of the positive results for people so far this week! We (my wife, her brother, and I) just started P90x today. I am trying this as an alternative for off-season cross training. The first workout today definitely challenged me. The hardest part though is the grocery bill. Yikes! Hopefully next week will be cheaper now that we have bought a bunch of the basics. Has anyone else here done P90x (Abbie looks like it)? I was just wondering what to expect and wanted suggestions for incorporating tri-training into my regimen once I get back to a higher carb diet (2nd and 3rd stage of diet). Cameron. - no beer challenge? Name a time period. |

Expert 1163 | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays Confession: I fell off the wagon twice this week... both times due to my love be beer! On Wednesday, I met up with two friends at my favorite bar, which serves all sorts of craft microbrews. I told myself I'd stick to my diet but allow myself one beer. But there were so many tasty beers on the menu I'd never had, that my one beer turned into three. Which then of course turned into a burrito run afterward So then I was good all week until yesterday. I went cross country skiing with a bunch of friends, and we were so hungry after, we decided to go to a local microbrewery/pizza place. I love the pizza and beer there, so of course I overdid it again! Anyways, I stepped on the scale today to find out the damage, and I'm actually a pound under from Friday's weigh-in... Go figure. In any case, I felt the need to confess in this thread, since I need accountability if I want to stay on track for the long haul! I don't want two slip ups to turn into an every day thing because then I'll be changing my body composition in the wrong direction! |

Veteran 175 Oklahoma City, OK | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays Just got done prepping all my food for the week. Hardboiled tons of eggs, chopped up all my veggies and cooked up some chicken breasts & turkey pattys to last the week. Now I have no excuses not to eat clean all week!! Anyone else do this? I just started doing this about a month ago and it has definately helped and really cut down on eating out & fast food. |

I just started doing this about a month ago and it has definately helped and really cut down on eating out & fast food. I like to prep my veggies so when I want a snack of veggies & hummus all I need is th put the veggies on my plate. When I am super organized (not often) I will build my grocery list around meals then prep what I can ahead by marinading things or preparing the part that might slow me down most in advance. I do make my breakfast for a week at a time so all I have to do is pop my portion in the microwave each day. |

I cut up veggies and put into single serving baggies, make breakfasts for all week and make at least one meal (try for two, but depends on schedule) over the weekend that will give me leftovers for lunch. If I don't do this I don't stand a chance of eating healthy! |

Pro 3730 NorCal | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Round 2: The Holidays I had to put one of my dogs down on Saturday so my appetite has not been great for the past few days. Yesterday my friend took me out to lunch at Cheesecake Factory. I had 2 drinks and we shared a piece of cheesecake. Workouts have not been great, just walking is about all I have felt up to. Hoping to do weights and/or some type of workout today. I know the training will help my sadness, just so tough to motivate at the moment. We have had the beautiful sunny days, the kind of days Calvin loved. |

This sounds yummy and probably few calories less than hummus.Laura: I make a sauce with roasted red bell peppers and garlic, with cilantro, onions, olive oil and lime. It's a rich sauce that I like to dip steamed veggies in. I also dip sweet potato fries in it. You can get a bag of frozen ones to make it easier. There's a brand called Alexia (I think!) that sells awesome chipotle season sweet potato fries. Awwwweesome. I also just bake some slices of the sweet potatoes I usually have in the kitchen. I like making smoothies with frozen fruits, almond milk, and a couple tablespoons of peanut butter. I'm not a big fan of nuts, but they're filling. This past weekend I got a bag each of dried apricots and almonds. I made a bunch of snack baggies of them mixed together for myself and my husband. Quick, easy, healthy.
The dip I make is actually chimichurri sauce that I just toss some roasted bell peppers in. Oh, and I roast the garlic as well, but it's fine with just fresh garlic. I just like roasted garlic a whole lot. I'll look up a chimichurri sauce recipe later for you! |

We have had the beautiful sunny days, the kind of days Calvin loved. So sorry. I love my dogs and find it very hard to think of what it be like without Lasser or Tina. Aside from eating and getting their rump scratched, I feel that their next highest priority in life is to make us happy. I'm sure that your dog would want you to do whatever it is that makes you happy. If working out, going for a walk on a beautiful day, or just moving around is what will ultimately make you feel better, then I feel pretty sure that doing that is what they would want you to do. Easier said than done, but just keep in mind that they would want you to be happy and that you are working towards that goal. |
