Basically this organization helps support families that have just birthed children that are terminally ill and families that lose children during childbirth. They supply rocking chairs to these families and help support the families that have had a child pass. A lot of what they do is at the hospital birthing units or NICU units for hospitals, as many of these children do not ever make it home. Why it touched me was i have had friends and family that have lost newborns or had still births, when my wife and I had our daughter, there was an infant that was born with most of the internals outside, to this day i have no idea if it had survived or not, its not like you go in and ask the family how they are doing. This organization helps in the time the child is alive and helping the family cope with all the after effects when it passes. My role will be to raise awareness by talking and explaining what the team and organization does and i have a fundraising goal that i have to meet. As i put in my application i was asked what kind of charitable work i have done and i realized i do not do a lot of philanthropic activities, I am quite fortunate and have a pretty good life, so i felt it was time for me to start giving back, so i applied and got in. you can get more information here www.eleonorerocks.org if you are interested. |

![]() Just jumpin in on the low volume training thread, i think it raises an interesting isue as to what is "required" to train for an IM. Many people are just looking to finish one, so they try to get away with as little as possible. My goal was to do an IM, have fun, not suffer too much, and have it be part of my racing experience, one race in a list of many. But the training was where it's at, enjoyment-wise. I am with Fred in that my Saturday ride, and masters classes, and group runs are fun for me (even the solo stuff, as it allows me to be in shape for the group stuff). When I first started in tris, my training just got longer and longer and longer as I got in shape. Even if I wasn't IM training, my Saturday rides would be 4-5 hours long (and I'd come home shattered). They didn't really "need" to be, but I figure it's no different than if I was off playing golf with my buddies. Now my long rides are more like 3 hours, but we do that, or a little more, every weekend. Mostly because it's what we like to do. Not because it's required by a plan One of the reasons I gave up a coach after a short while is that the training became too much like "work." Some of the best runs and rides I've had have been "hmmm, let's see where this trail goes...." |

Look forward to it, plan to do different things. You will learn to appreciate it, I know I do. So anyway, my coach has me scheduled for a day off every monday, last night i worked on one of my race bikes, i probably shoulda worked out, i wanted to do core, but i am paying him for his input, and i am sure in 2 months i will be wanting the rest day, just felt weird, i wanted to work out, but didn't.
anyone else feel like that?? ![]() I know I am often anxious to do all the training i can in the early stages of a training cyclye and then anxious for reast days in peak weeks. I hope to be able to build in a regular rest day and only tapping into it when life is pretty crazy. For me, Fridays are the hardest to get in if i can't get in a morning workout so it's best if it's a rest day - or i beat myself up for not doing any training. On the long run a day off from workouts is best at rest. It will be, check that, it is the best thing you can do for yourself, your fitness, and your long range gains. |

Last time I came to FL, which wasn't that long ago, I arrived in a downpour... Question for the swimmers. When do you breath in relation to the recovery part of your stroke? I think I have my timing messed up and I am not sure if it is causing me to slow down or what. I pretty much start breathing as soon as I start my recovery but I keep seeing things about breathing when your arm is right above your head really. So that's kind of the total opposite of when I breath. I am not a fish - but there are plenty of videos on you tube. This is the most watches swimming video out there - total immersion- check his breathing pattern |

I'd have to actually get back into the darn pool again (closed) to see if am maybe ending it too soon. Can't recall. Thanks for the link, it was helpful |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The whole idea seems ridiculous to me. I can't fathom why anyone would even entertain the idea. Why not find something you love to do instead of wasting your time on something you can't stand. Even if you could finish an IM on that volume, why would you want to.What a miserable day it would probably be. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Training is tough to start, but my wife is away all week for business, makes it even harder. I cant get to the pool, which i desperately need to do, i do run on the dreadmill, i got a good workout last night, but the thought of running 75 mins tonight is giving me the willies, lol. Also been doing some core, i had started p90x, but honestly there is not enough time in the day, so i have been doing their core program only, since my core needs the most work. I really like it. Coach has me only riding a couple times a week for now, as we are run specific, which is where i will see my big gains this year, and honestly i am riding well still (as judged by my bike race teams road rides) so i am not concerned, although i do miss my bikes a bit. I am rambling, hope everyone has a great morning!! |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning team - still coughing this morning. I am not quite sure why i came into work this morning. I probably should have stayed home. anywho, i'll keep an eye on this cough and i am just hoping that I won't have another ugly coughing incident wherein it sounds like i am going produce a lung and scare all of my co-workers. I don't want to have to swig Buckley's today - man, that stuff is gross! If all goes well, I will get on my trainer, at the very least. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred D - 2012-01-11 7:48 AM Ok I typed a semi sensible post in the 2 hour IM training thread. Hope it doesn't degrade into an unpleasant discussion, but honestly there are three types of people in triathlon.... Those that can count and those that can't lol. Seriously, the 2 types are tose who are in for the long haul and those who are in it for maybe a year or two. You just have to decide which one YOU are as there is nothing wrong with either, just have to be true to yourself. I just waded into it too - blah. I can't quite get over the mentality - that IM is the be all end all - there are lots of great athletic accomplishments and why isn't it okay to do what makes sense for your life and your own attitude toward training? |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I went for my first run this morning since the race on Saturday and my legs are still not recovered yet. I took it real EZ but probably should have reduced the mileage for today. They were still pretty sore. I have a feeling the rest of the week is going to be all aerobic workouts until the legs feel better. |

I actually don't think the guy is a troll, although it certainly seemed that way at first. I would opine in the thread but I really have nothing to say to him and think everyone else has hit on all the salient points. Edited by bryancd 2012-01-11 9:16 AM |
