Hi All,

I was away for most of the weekend as it was my sister's wedding.  No triathlon stuff there - all about her.  I was a bridesmaid so Saturday was spent doing hair, waiting, doing makeup, waiting, getting dressed, waiting, ceremony, waiting, photos, waiting .... hahahaha - i sound like I didn't enjoy myself but it was a really nice day and it was great to be there for her and see all kinds of family.

As for training, well, it continues. Open water swim planned for today and chores. Since today is a glorious holiday.  I started my packing list as we plan to leave next Sunday.  Anything you recommend that isn't on the normal packing list?

I'll have to catch up now ...

This is my full packing list for IM Melbourne, as well as what went into all my transition/special needs bags.

Don't laugh. I'm a chick and I was going to be there for weeks.

LOL...this is why you don't use an Iphone video to try and deterimine the winners of a sprint finish.  You're likely to get it wrong.  Again...no big deal...but this photo was from a friend who was spectating.  But on the flip side, since I didn't win anyway, I'm glad they saved the money and did not use timing chips because they had beer after the race.

TSimone - 2012-08-06 6:37 AMQuick question for those of you who use latex tubes.  I didn't replace my stock SRAM rim tape when I installed my latex tubes.  Do you replace yours with something like Stan's?
I don't replace the rim tape with latex tubes.

I did but only because the tape that was there was small defect that resulted in a popped latex tube.  It was minor enough that the butyl tube was ok but not latex.  I would imagine that sooner or later the butyl tube would have popped too.

Good weekend on the bike for me.  Nice to ride outside both days this weekend.  The mid-week trainer rides in the basement are just not that fun anymore.  It was really hot on Saturday and only took 2 bottles with me for a 3 hr ride and not near enough nutrition.  I bonked with about 15 minutes left in the ride...that was a struggle.  The all day golfing/drinking the day before probably accelerated that situation.

Still feeling pretty good about my preparation for the HIM in 3 weeks.  Really need to make an effort to get my swim yardage back up to a respectable level.

Tom - That is horrible...glad you are ok and hope the body recovers quickly.  I will never forget my first tumble.

Jason - Congrats on the good finish!

Welcome to the group Kathy.

Congrats on the race Jason

Weather here in England had finally started getting summery (it's been raining for almost 2 months solid!) so I've started cycling to work 2-3 times a week to get some hill training in and it started hailing 10mins into the ride home!

Plus I've finally re-registered for my first HIM distance (ish - the bike is 52miles) after the first one was cancelled.

Hi All....Fred gave me the okay to join the group.

I'll write more later as far as an introduction. We are in Minot ND visiting our son in the Air Force then driving to Minnesota tomorrow.

Totally unrelated anyone know why almost all the track runners in Olympics seem to be wearing yellow shoes?

Hi Kathy!

Very glad you're here.

1. Awesome photo.

2. Good attitude! A chip might have secured your 3rd place finish, but it would have cost you beer.

3. Again, awesome race.

Wow Jason - what a great race - in my admittedly very limited experience it is kind weird in a 4/5 race that you did not get at least a few to try to go away. Sounds like you were pretty much where you needed to be at the end though. If you had won a bunched sprint I would be wondering what the hell you are doing on a triathlete board however....

I'm a cyclist who pretends he can swim and run...

me too.  Although i do not even pretend to run very much.

You guys should try being a swimmer pretending he can cycle and run.    I've long ago stopped worrying about being passed.  It's always a small victory when I pass anyone - it's a pretty rare occurance.

Fred D - 2012-08-06 6:17 PM Rode 100 miles today on little sleep. I plan on a 3 hr ride next weekend and that's really it for the long stuff. I truthfully won't miss the long rides like today's next year as I just need an ironman break for a few years. I much prefer rides with the road bike anyway. As far as the bike fit, I adjusted 3 times on the ride. I ended up raising the seat a bit as I knew it was too low. Was getting some front of knee soreness initially which improved with the higher seat. I feel as though the fit is not quite right yet, but am not able to get to Philadelphia to get re fit by Elite. I might go to my lbs, but they have a different philosophy to fit and I'm not sure. Anyone here feel as though they would be willing to offer an opinion on my fit if I post a few pics in the next day or two?

Post away.  Do you happen to have any pics of your previous setup for comparison?

Interesting that you prefer your road setup.  I could ride my P3 all day but I can't say the same for my roadie.  Granted I've never been given a proper fitting on the road bike.

Hey guys. Lying here on a boat between dives off the kona coast. First liveaboard I've been on with 3G. Spent the last few days in Maui sleeping, swimming, running and SUPing..... Think I might have found my favorite new cross training. Yesterday was the first dives here, had a fantastic manta night dive with two mantas that swooped around us for an hour and followed js back to the boat, and an incredible dolphin encounter. Wendy and I were the last ones out of the water with the dive master, just hanging at the safety stop, huge bottlenose came by, circled slowly around each of us several times, looking right in our eyes and pinging us with sonar. Just a fantastic way to start the dive week

Had a good ride today.  Without really trying, I set a new 5 minute power PB.  Legs are really starting to get into form.  I've got a 20 minute test on a long climb scheduled for Thursday.
