AbbieR - 2013-02-08 11:50 AM134 this morning, up 1 from last week.  How depressing that I have only lost 2 pounds since Jan 1!!

You rock 134 like a champion, though, so it's all good!!

Big accomplisment there big man.  Keep on keeping on.  I started on this journey January 2012 at 260 hoping to get down to 220 by June of 2012.  By April of 2012 I was at 219, and finally stabilized in July right around 205.  Well beyond my expectations.

Love to hear how you all are doing.

Me -
1-6-2013 165
1-11-2013 163.5
1-18-2013 160.5
1-25 159.5
2-1 158.5
2-8 160.5

Did find an article here at BT which talked about couch potato athletes. That is one of my issues - other than my workouts I'm pretty sedentary, doesn't help burn fat.
Still find myself eating foods that I don't want to be eating - as I eat them, so some part of me wants to but not the rational part. I feel bad as I'm eating and of course afterwards.

I need to develop a new relationship to food. Try to cut out the salt, fat, sugar hooks and enjoy healthy fare, in moderation.

I still struggle all the time with my relationship as food.  I've heard some really successful people who view it strictly as a fuel source.  I realize that this is the most effective way, but it just can't be my way.  There are some thing I would prefer not to do without.

So instead of seperating myself from food and viewing it as a fuel source.  I've instead decided to use myfitnesspal as a caloric ledger of sorts.  Okay yes I want to eat a Whataburger (Texas delicacy) for lunch, but I realize that is going to probably put me over my daily caloric intake for the day to the tune of about 500 calories which means an extra 3 to 3.5 miles.  So if I am going to indulge I try and make sure its on days when i have some good activity planned.

And then again there is just some days when the food wins.  And to me that's okay.  I'm not going to beat myself up about it.  I didn't get trim in one day, I'm not going to get fat in one day either.  At the end of the month, if I've had more good days than bad days, which isn't really too hard, then I consider that month a victory.

After all there really is no point in working hard to extend your life if you don't do anything to enjoy it.  Sometimes ya just gotta say "what the hell" and live a little.

All that being said we've chosen to improve our lives through diet and exercise.  Maintain that focus, on improving your life, and sometimes focus a little less on that number on the scale.

Good luck Momma

Back in 2006, I peaked out at 265#.  I nearly failed a Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT), and I was put into a probationary status.  They treated me as if I HAD failed, so I had to do all the stuff that goes along with failing.  I decided it was time to turn over a new leaf.
That year, I ended up getting down to 215#, doing a lot of MMA style workouts, strength training, and cardio.  As I passed through the 220-225 zone, I felt awesome.  As I kept losing weight and overall body mass, I started feeling less and less awesome.  My functional strength went to the pits (my dead lift max weight went from 415# when I weighed 225 down to 300# when I was walking around at roughly 215#.  I didn't feel good at all.
Then I cut back on the cardio and eased up on the MMA style workouts, and, unfortunatly, stopped watching what I shoveled down my gullet.  Then I went to Hawaii, sans family, for a year, where I did nearly nothing but party it up all the time and booze it up. I ended up at 235# at 22% and held that for the longest time.
When 2011 came along, my wicked ways caught up with me, and I did fail a PRT.  I went through the requisite "Fitness Enhancement Program" for 6 months, passed my next PRT, then held firm at 235# at 19%.
Fast forward to September of 2012.  I competed in the OBX Olympic Triathlon with a friend of mine, and fell in love with triathlon all over again (I had done 2 in Hawaii, but didn't really take them seriously).  Now, I have a goal to dominate this race, so I'm shooting to get to 225# (not only is that my comfort zone, I'll still be a Clyde) at about 14 to 16% BF.

So far, I'm doing pretty good.  Today's weigh in is a morale booster!

Subject: RE: DOWN for 2013 - New Year New You!
Way to go on the losses, etc. this week!

I had an "aha" moment last night. (Well, I've had it before, but I'm an idiot, so I forget.)

I seriously need to slow down when I eat. When I first did my weightloss journey back in 2006-7, I ate 6 small meals, etc. Now, for whatever reason - lifestyle, busyness, I don't know - it is just working out better for me to eat 3 meals with maybe an evening snack (although I often count an evening glass of wine = snack). Anyway, eating 3 meals a day, I sometimes get hungry before a meal (normal) and then I scarf down the next meal like I'm never eating again.

Like last night - we had a late dinner after one of my daughter's activities and I ordered a gyro pizza (weekends I go a bit off the paleo ranch). I gobbled through 4.5 of the 6 slices of the individual pizza and then stopped, saying that I had about 0.5 pieces too many. But the longer I sat there, I realized, I had probably eating 1.5 pieces too many.

I need to remember to eat slowly and enjoy my food.

Lesson learned - tummy hurt last night. Hopefully I will remember that for a while.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, instead of coming straight hopme from duty, I decided to go to the gym to use a stationary bike to do an Olympic style brick.  That would be the ride and run portions of an Olympic distance triathlon... 25 and 6.2 miles, respectively.

On the ride, I managed to shave about 18m31s off the time it toook me to do 25 miles during the OBX Olympic Triathlon in September (I'm gonna kick that race's arse in 2013).  I did that ride in 1:23:44; I did it today in 1:04:53.  Awesome, right?

Wait, it gets better.  I set off with the goal of beating 1:10:00 on the run.  To date, my best 10K was 1:04:05.  That was set as a stand alone run, NOT after riding a bike for 25 miles.  Today's run was a 6.38 miler that I finished in 1:05:44.  At the 10K mark, my time was 1:03:51.6... 13.2 second IMPROVEMENT.

"Operation Breezy Point Domination" relies upon only one thing at this point... I figure a way to get my butt into open water to train for the swim.  At the rate I'm going, domination will simply become absolute destruction.  I WANT MY GOLD!!

Time for a "put up, or shut up" moment.  Since AbbieR gave us some scantilly clad action on the first, I'm gonna give you folks my version on the 10th.  It won't be as impressive, though.

That was taken today.  Weight is 228# with 20.4% BF.  The goal is 220#-225# with 15% BF or better.

I know its a little late but I would like to get in on this thread. I just came back to BT after a long break due to my second IM dnf...since then I put on a good bit of weight but since January I am down 30 pounds to currently 255. My goal is to get down to 200. I sold all my tri accessories bike and such so now just running and signed up for a few trail runs and possibly get a bike soon to get back into the tri swing. Most of my workouts will be run based focusing on hills as well. Plan on 3 training runs a week and two work runs be it hills interval or track work. I am also doing bodyweight exercises 2-3 days a week. I have changed my eating habits to focus on a paleo/primal style...but I live in the south so I have still been having a cheat meal once a week and yes its usually something fried and covered in cheese or gravy! I have signed up for a 50K in October so I have to stay focused and get some serious race failure monkeys off my back...plus I want to look good in a baithingsuit again Cool LOL. Best Wishes to you all!

So good to see everyone starting to improve.  On the upswing heading into race season.  I did as well.  In addition to keeping the downward trending on the scale I took a long(ish) run the other night.  Set out to run 60 min. on Sunday afternoon and turned the first mile at 9:15/mile which is a bit fast for me as I like to start easy and pick up negative splits throughout.  Told myself well dumby now its up to you to maintain over the next 50:45, and you know what I did.  End up with an average of 9:09/mile over 6.6 miles.  Felt really good.  I've got a big relay coming up so I am upping my mileage running for that and an Olympic in late April.  My new shoes (Hokas) felt great and perform as advertised in my opinion.

Finger is just about healed up so I'm going to have to reset my 28 day burpee challenge.  If anyone is interested in joining let me know.

Hey for once its okay to be a "downer"
