cadmus - 2010-06-15 3:57 PM You'd think it was November, aka "the offseason," around here with all the talk of girl band, boy band, old band, new band.  Did I stumble into the Rolling Stone forums

I swam today and thought I'd do a fast 100 before my cool down to see what kind of time I could throw down.  I busted out a 1:32.  I have a work request in to see if the clock is calibrated properly.

Great time!  Congrats!

I'm so excited to hear about CdA reports!! :-)

My computer is now functionally normally - turns out that I had some malware crap causing havoc on internet browsers.  I've been browsing around...and just missed the cut off for virtual tri - I had a fantastic 800 swim today. :-( Not that it's going to make me the top 3, but still.

You ain't going to see pictures of my sausage legs. They're getting thinner, but need to be more toned and muscular before they can be photo-worthy!

EQUIPMENT QUESTIONS

BIKE QUESTION

I'm thinking about modifying my road bike into more TT/Triathlon worthy by adding aerobars (gosh, there's SO many out there!! Did I ask this question before? If so, sorry...memory lapse) and forward set seatpost.

Have anyone used Profile Design Fast Forward seatpost or heard anything nice about it? The only way I can go into aerobars properly (by keeping my elbows 90 degree angle), is to bring my seat forward, but it's as forward as it can go, and I know that if I try to use aerobars, I'll be at too wide of an angle.

(no, I'm not buying a new tribike - at least not for a long while...my bike was pretty high end road bike, so it still has a lot of room to grow)

RUN:
I know this has been asked over and over and over, but need a bit of an opinion.  The last two runs - one was on the treadmill and the other was on dirt trail - the ball of my left foot is starting to hurt everytime when it lands on it. I will be going for a 3 mi run tmw to triple check.  Does that mean I'm having form issues or does my shoes need replacing? It's 7 months old with 125 mi on it.  Not sure if it's too "young" to be replaced. First pair of shoes..so I have no idea what it's supposed to "feel" like when it's broken in or in need of replacements (I still wear my 4 year old everyday shoes, and I *know* they need to be replaced, but I couldn't!)

Thanks!!

DJ-How did you select the shoes you are wearing? have you ever had a gait analysis at your LRS or from a PT?  The shoes are not old enough to warrant replacing so you are right, it could be a form issue or it could be the wrong shoe for you.  It's hard to tell what the problem might be from your description.  Does it hurt in a wide area or a small pinpoint location?  If it hurts from the first step to the last step of a run, you shouldn't be running until you figure it out.

ME!!!!

Two races are on the docket again this week......aquathon on Thursday night (1000m/5k) and a HIM on Saturday!

Goal for the aquathon is the same as always, a calm, but strong swim.   May or may not go all out on the 5K depending on how the legs feel.  They are still a bit tired from the Sunday sprint.

Primary goal for the HIM is keeping my wits about me in what will no doubt be my hardest swim leading up to IM WI.  Lake is big, shallow, very green and always choppy (3-4 footers last year).  Once I'm out of the cesspool, its all about Z3 and managing my nutrition for a decent finish.  Haven't done a long run in 6 weeks.  Big test of strategy for me more than anything.

PS. These are the legs that will take me there.  My sticks are short, but still so not nearly as impressive as Tracy's and Twins!  You've gotta work it! with what you have!

Well I had an awesome swim workout last night. I did a breakthrough workout as I was feeling awesome. I went out to do 10-16x50 yd laps and I ended up doing 10x50 yds and 5x100. I was able to time my 100 and it is at about 2:14 for the first one and 2:27 for the 5th one. The breathing is getting easier and now I am focusing on form. I was using a pull buoy but I will admit it has been amazing with helping me focus on my form.

FF seat posts are good if that's what you need to get you in the right position.

Great job Mark, just have to keep at it, for me anyways more time in the pool = faster swims.

Dude, that's great!  I still remember my first swimming breakthrough - I started thinking that I might actually complete a tri after all!

Went to masters this AM, very strange swimming in an outdoor 50M pool.

Good confidence booster, coach put me in a lane and I ended up drafting off the guy in front of me most of the time because they were going a bit too slow for me.  Not used to that at all (people going slower than me)

It was actually cool to be able to work on drafting, after a bit I figured out how much to slow down and still have something resembling my normal swim stroke, and not swim up his butt.

I was able to slow down and pace myself and it worked out pretty nice. I felt really good when I left, first time I have felt like that leaving the pool.

I am racing this weekend!!!  Wilkes Barre, PA Duathlon on Sunday (3 miles, 16 miles, 3 miles).  Looks like it will be a small race, only about 100 people registered as of yesterday.  Supposed to be hot and humid.  First multisport race of the year so I am psyched!  Kristine is doing it also.

I haven't gotten too technical on recovery after races - usually eat and drink whatever they have to offer!

ME...I'm racing with my husband in Atlanta, and I'm so looking forward to it.   I'm getting down and dirty in the mud.
And sorry Suzy, but after this one it will be beer for me - not my usual recovery drink, but I think it's appropriate for this one

Good luck to all the racers this weekend.
