I think I just got a bad pair, I spent 75 bucks and they are now 99. It was after just a few minutes of riding so I think they were just defective.

REAL QUESTION:

Does anyone have a bike rack on a minivan, likes, dislikes, products to recommend? It's time for us to take care of this -- we plan to get a hitch installed and a hitch mount bike rack. Current problem is that our garage isn't long enough to keep the rack on the car and the car in the garage. My husband seems to think this is a total non-issue and I can just put the bike rack on every time I want to take multiple bikes out. I think he's full of it. But seeing has he has yet to ride his bike since we've lived in WA (almost 6 years), clearly he does not know that of which he speaks. Anyway, if anyone has any real-life experiences to share, I'm all ears!

ETA: We could fit rack on car in garage if we moved some shelves, but that isn't flying so far with the hubby. (Can you tell my priority is bikes on the car and his isn't!?

So what are you looking for? A hitch mount? I just bought a Thule Helium. Like the fact that is can adjust up and down. Has anti-sway and a cable lock to through over the bike. I run a cable through the bike as well and its all good. there is another model above it that swings down and pivots, but i didnt see the need for it.

I have this and it has been good to me for a couple of years now.  We have carried 5 bikes on it several hundred miles (2 mountain bikes and 3 kids bikes).  Would need a 2" hitch on the car, not a 1".  They have 4 and 3 bike models too.  I don't take it off much, our garage is a bike/sports equipment storage area all spring/summer/fall so it pretty much only comes off when the frost comes or when I take the car to the car wash.  It attaches to the hitch with a bolt but you can get a quick disconnect type thing if you are going to take it on and off on a regular basis.

Note: I don't have a minivan.  THULE bike racks are the bomb.  This one folds up so you could leave it on the car. A friend of mine has one that also lowers so you can get into the SUV without taking the bikes off the rae.  THUEL is not lightweight so removing it a bunch of times would be a pain.  They do have one with a locking feature and if I ever upgrade that would be the one I would get.

The excitement is well under way for me for my race this weekend. I found out last night that there will be one large mass start for the Olymoic on Sunday. Normally this is done in waves but they changed the format this year. We will be seeding ourselves by guestimated swim times on the beach. This will be a first for me as I have never run off the beach wth this many people. I am guesiing about 400/450 people will be starting at the same time. It should be very interesting.

I had a great swim last night and feel totally ready to go.

A little off topic but how about the news that a convicted criminal was executed by firing squad in Utah yertesday. I wasn't aware we as a society still allowed executions of that kind. Next thing you know we'll be bringing back the guillotine.

Eye for an eye may be a more suitable pursuit, would certainly save us money by jailing these asshats. I was shocked to read about the firing squad as well. I read that they have 5 guys and one has a blank, no one knows who has the blank. I guess it is to make it easier to live with yourself for it.

Funny thing is that the guillotine was developed to be a humane form of execution. In France, before the guillotine, people were ewither beheaded with a sword or axe, or were hanged. The person in the present insance chose death by firing-squad.

My understanding was that he requested the firing squad instead of lethal injection...  odd bird

Thule for me too, it is hinged at the bike arm so I can fold that part down and hinged at the base so I can swing it down to access the back of my SUV.  I got mine at REI during a 20% off for members sale...  I would definitely recommend 2 inch receiver for the hitch of the car, 1" seems to sway more...

I like Ron White's take on Execution: (paraphrasing)

"Texas is trying to limit appeals in cases where the person is convicted of murder and there are at least three credible witnesses.

Other states are trying to abolish the death penalty, mine is putting in an express lane."
