Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mett - 2010-06-18 5:00 AM I need to get a bike rack for the car. Trying to find one on craigs list but no luck so far. I just need a 2 biker tops. Get Bones 2. That's what I have "permanently" attached to my car. I haven't taken it off in almost a year. :-) The prices aren't that bad, I shopped around, then my LBS was having a "Yard Sale", and got 20% off of it. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kkcbelle - 2010-06-17 8:55 PM REAL QUESTION: Does anyone have a bike rack on a minivan, likes, dislikes, products to recommend? It's time for us to take care of this -- we plan to get a hitch installed and a hitch mount bike rack. Current problem is that our garage isn't long enough to keep the rack on the car and the car in the garage. My husband seems to think this is a total non-issue and I can just put the bike rack on every time I want to take multiple bikes out. I think he's full of it. But seeing has he has yet to ride his bike since we've lived in WA (almost 6 years), clearly he does not know that of which he speaks. Anyway, if anyone has any real-life experiences to share, I'm all ears! ETA: We could fit rack on car in garage if we moved some shelves, but that isn't flying so far with the hubby. (Can you tell my priority is bikes on the car and his isn't!? I have a Yakima and it stays on the minivan hitch all the time. Looking at the website it seems they've made some improvements on the racks - they even include built in bottle openers on the end. Very snazy. Tell you husband the bike rack will take up less room in the garage if it stays on the car vs having to find a place to store it in the garage. We are thinking about buying a new minivan and the trailer hitch is a requirement. People at the dealerships ask if we have a boat and they look at us kind of funny when we say, no we have bikes. |

I found out last night that there will be one large mass start for the Olymoic on Sunday. Normally this is done in waves but they changed the format this year. We will be seeding ourselves by guestimated swim times on the beach. This will be a first for me as I have never run off the beach wth this many people. I am guesiing about 400/450 people will be starting at the same time. It should be very interesting. I had a great swim last night and feel totally ready to go. GO GET 'EM TIGER!!!! |

This is what we have http://www.thule.com/en/US/Products/BikeCarriers/RearDoor/4796509.aspx Nothing exciting but it works, fits on the back of our MDX which might as well be a mini-van. Next vehicle we will get a hitch and get one of the hitch mounted racks so they don't touch the bike frame, only the wheels. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() DougRob - 2010-06-18 9:29 AM I like Ron White's take on Execution: (paraphrasing) "Texas is trying to limit appeals in cases where the person is convicted of murder and there are at least three credible witnesses. Other states are trying to abolish the death penalty, mine is putting in an express lane." I didn't realize he had chosen that form of execution. I like the Texas idea of the express lane. In regards to the bike rack issue I have a pick up so don't really need one. If I ever use the car I borrow my BIL's. Don't know what brand it is but it's light and quite easy to attach. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just got my swim time for my pool sprint on Saturday. This is really weird. I haven't done a pool sprint in 2 years and I am more nervous about this than I was for my olympic a few weeks ago. I think I had the built in excuse to be slow with the olympic but with sprints you are suppose to be fast. This is going to be interesting. |

Yeah the Sprint Sam, Linda and I are doing in July is a pool swim, used to be 2 people per lane, each person takes a side and you swim your 300M, when you get out someone else jumps in. This year he is trying some crazy circle swim and dropping new people in when people get out to try to go a bit faster. Sounds like a nighmare to me. Though would really like to win my AG there, No chance at overall, there is a 55 year old guy that has won his AG in Kona before that swims <1:10/100's, bikes 26mph and runs low 6's high 5's (I think) He holds the course record. |

IMO Genetics does play a part in going that fast in all 3 disciplines but I think if you keep at it you can get close (at least that's what I keep telling myself) |

Mine's a pool swim as well. We go up and back in a lane and then duck under the lane rope and do it again. I think this is a 25m pool, so 6 lanes worth... That OF is fast! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the bike rack comments!! I was lying in bed this morning (because I didn't have to get up at the crack to work out to get home to get the kids off to school cuz SCHOOL'S OUT [at long last] and I get to do my **very short** run while they're at swim practice later this morning!)... anyway, I was lying there thinking about how I can get the darn shelves out of the garage so have more room to pull car forward to keep bike rack on. It will involve some work on my part (dammit) but I'm going to think through it. In reality, I may not need to move multiple bikes THAT often, but the kids are becoming better and better bike riders and can do more and better rides (daughter now has a gear bike), but we can only go about 2 miles from home before there are significant hills. They can be a buzzkill at the end of a "this is supposed to be fun, kids!" ride -- hence the wish to make it easy to move multiple bikes around. Happy race prep, peeps who are getting 'er done this weekend!! |
