swbkrun - 2011-08-19 11:46 AM Made through yet another surgery...  Wasn't bad, and pain is fine.  I am able to put weight on it has necessary which is nice.  I don't have to use crutches.  Doctor said not much meniscus left in the leg (send tear and surgery on this same knee).  Also said the tear was pretty big and he was able to scrape a bunch of loose cartilage out of there.  Good things to come.  Back in no time!!! He said 6-8 weeks.  Cut that baby in half.... I'll be back soon.

AWESOME!!!    time for a jack and coke...

Mixed with Oxycotin..... That is a crazy cocktail!!!  I think I will wait until lunch!  Right now it is just coffee and bailey's (ok.... Maybe creamer, but it's got me thinking!)

I have had an aching in my left knee off and on now for about a month. Today I went to my PT to have it looked at. My Patella tendon is a little sore, but it is nothing serious. I need to stretch more and work on my flexibility more.

Funny thing is I could have done what others do here on BT and elsewhere, namely describe my symptoms and ask for advice. Problem is I do not know the people answering my question and they really do not know what may be wrong with me. I am amazed by how many time such questions are asked. The best answer is see a doctor, PT or specialist. The answers I would get on-line range from "it is nothing, just run through it" to "it sounds like ebola."

Anyway glad it is minor and easily treatable.

That is an interesting observation...it is probably why I rarely post anything on the main forums...people get so side tracked and seem to thrive on "debating" rather than discussing.  I like it here where we can all rag on one another and still (hopefully) come back to see another day of banter.

Glad that the doc said it's just your weak core (teasing, see i can dish too!)...i had some hamstring tightness that I almost went to a doctor for over the past month or so, but decided to do some resistance band stretches and pilate type exercises at the suggestion of Kathy's pilates instructor and it worked like a charm!

Here is my favorite swim picture... Took it in Hawaii in 2004.  Blew it up and always puts me in a happy place when I see it!

I only share the very best of my baking with my friends. They wouldn't be nearly as good via USPS. Much better in my kitchen with a cold glass of milk. Or you can catch the next flight up and be here in time for tonight's blackberry/blueberry crisp -- featuring only local fruits hand-picked by my kiddos and me. If you can't make it until Monday, we'll serve you some blueberry pie with homemade ice cream... Pie crust made my my favorite 11-year-old and me...

We take dessert very seriously in this household. I think I need to start Ironman training again...

They said I would be down for 6-8 weeks.  I had this done 4 years ago and climbed Mount St. Helens 9 days later.  I am hoping for the same results now, but will pay attention a little more than 4 years ago.

WOW, I just woke up and realized it's Wednesday!!!!

Ok, not really....I actually forgot it was Wendesday.....thankfully someone who writes late RR's reminded me!!  So, who is brave enough to swim the swim, bike the bike and run the run this weekend???  Details Peeps, including strategy.

I have an OLY on Sunday.  I've done this one twice before (it was actually my first tri 2 years ago).  This year the bike and run courses have changed completely.   The bike used to take you 40 km away from the swim, but due to earthquake damage to the roads, they are making it a loop course near the lake.   I am hoping that means slightly lower temps for the run.    Strategy: easy on the swim, hard on the bike and then try to push the run a little harder than I have the past two races.

Question on "glacial": do you use this approach for the Oly run too?  If so, how slow do you try to hold the pace out of T2 and how long do you hold that pace?   Zone 2 heart rate?  Zone 3 heart rate? (or explain relative to normal long run training pace)

I would honestly say that since you have done this race before and done Oly's before you should not be "pacing" the run.  You should know your limit, and be running right on the edge of being crushed... You know what you can/should run a 10k in...   Last 2x... 52 min, 54 min.... That's sub 9:00 pace... Push past that 52... Try and run sub 50.... you can HOLD that pace for 6 miles.   You have that experience in your mind, and in your legs.... MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!  Dig deep!

Thanks.  Running sub 50 is exactly what I want to do.   The weather gods may help out tomorrow.

Good luck on your recovery.
