Do you guys ever have those days where it occurs to you that you've completely lost your mind with this whole training thing? Today I've been limping around the office because my entire right quad is stiff and sore from who knows what, probably something I did on a run a couple days ago. So did I ice it and plan a rest day? Ha. I spent a good chunk of my day online, planning the route for tonight's 8-mile run and trying to find a marathon I can do in October/November/December.

I remember a couple years ago when a friend told me he was going to run his first marathon. I told him he was insane. Clearly it's catching.

(Don't worry, I'm not being too dumb about the quad. I'm sure I just wrenched it a little, and if it's hurting tomorrow I'll ice and rest and all that good stuff.)

So, California Manatees: Got any ideas for a good first-time marathon toward the end of the year?

your quad.....my hamstring or my neck from too much riding. yes the insanity is contagious. so why only an 8 miler tomorrow??? come on now double digits for a saturday!!!! i hope the quad heals or at least becomes functional again.

If you get this in time, which you won't, I hope you went out easy and stopped if it started to hurt more.

LOTS of great 1st marys at the end of the year--how far are you looking to travel? Wanna do one together? I'll swing it if I can. May not happen, but ... this is why I love PLANNING stages

I can't say I really took it easy on the run tonight, but the quad felt fine. It seems to only hurt when I'm walking up or down stairs or sitting down/standing up. I'll know tomorrow whether I did any damage on the run tonight, and if it hurts a lot I'll definitely take a couple days off (of running, anyway).

And OMG, that'd be so fun to do a mary together! I'm willing to travel pretty much anywhere in California.

Yanti! How was your race? (It was today, right?)

I did really good this week for my manatee challenge.  I hit 3 days of being in bed by 10! I def noticed a difference in my energy level.

Good luck on your race tomorrow Yanti!  I am sure you will give it all you've got!

You California people are killing me.  It seems like you can find a race any weekend you want one in a location that is no more than a drive away.  For me to do a late October, November or December marathon, I need to travel to Philly, Richmond or Vegas!  Fun, but definitely not cheap or convenient.  So where are you all going to be?

Hey all you all sound so great doing lots of things.  I still have the sore Hammy but I think I am suffering more from post event depression.  I had my first sprint and then the next week a 10k and since then I have just felt blah need to kick my azz and get back at it.  Just such a weird feeling I hate it just not motivated to do anything, training wise

Yeah, post-event depression is definitely real!!  Tons of threads on here about that. The only fix is another event!  So when's the next one?  It seems like it is taking soooooo long for actual tri season to get here!  And spring, too.  It was chilly this morning on my ride but I wore shorts anyway.  I hear there's a chance of sun sometime in the next month.

Hopefully on Monday afternoon I will be riding the full route around Lake Washington--60-ish miles!  It will definitely kick my azz cuz it is HILLY!  Cross your fingers for me that it will all work out.  I will be gone next weekend, so it will have to represent two long rides for me.  I did ride my nemesis hill this morning, after 26 miles of riding, and had to stop to get my HR under control about halfway up. I was really mad that I'd had to stop, but I was able to finish the hill after a minute of rest, so I guess that's better than walking.  I live on a plateau, so there's no way to ride from home without a killer hill coming back.  This is the first time this season I have ridden off the plateau, so I am getting braver. Usually I have been driving and parking at the bottom!  Next time, I will get up it without a break.  Mentally it is such a challenge, and it really only took a total of three minutes to get up it.  It's just straight up for 1/2 mile!!  Anyway enough about the dang hill.

I hope Yanti is out there having fun and that everyone else is having a fun weekend and training hard!! Anybody else racing?  I've had such a busy week that I've barely had time to skim the forum!

LOL!

Sounds like it's worth talking about!

It's pretty tough finding hills to ride in NE - pretty darn flat

Very nice job on your ride Leslie!  It seems to me that you did the right thing and stopped and listened to your body - and more impressive, you tackled your nemesis!  Now that takes some guts!

You are getting braver and stronger every day - so focus on that and not the fact that you had to stop and rest for a moment.

We'll be keeping our fingers crossed that your ride on Monday works out!

I haven't personally experienced the post event depression, but have seen enough people go through it to know it's real

Hang in there - be kind to yourself and you will get your mojo back!

Thanks for the wonderful wishes and great support. I see a lot of awesome stuff going on in the thread and will get to it in due time if I indeed have anything to add to Bethie's great words of wisdom.

It was not my best week in sticking to the challenge.  On the positive side, I juiced three times which was more than I was shooting for.  Didn't make a dent in the other two.  It was a stressful week fo me, but that is no excuse.....oh well, at least tomorrow is Monday and I can start again....... hope everyone else did great!

My goals:

1. Juice twice a week which for me is some combo of vegetables/fruits.

2. Avoid mindless eating at my computer or kitchen counter (e.g. cereal, chips, chocolate something) Monday-Thursday. Weigh things out if I have to to break the cycle. Hate that!

3. Give myself 5 minutes of thinking time before reach for a snack when I get home from wherever.  that should be enough time to determine if I am hungry or simply going for something out of habit.

Nice job Suzy - and it's understandable if you didn't meet all of your goals - stress can do that

way to look at the positive side of things and focus on what you did do, rather than what you didn't do!
