Anybody who grew up here is ickified. For realsies. I was born there, lived there again from 4th to 6th grade, and my crazy parents retired there so I get to visit often. Parts of OKC are OK, and Norman isn't totally awful, but they can keep the rest of it. [Joke]Why doesn't Texas fall off into the Gulf of Mexico? Good luck. My two older boys were in Karate (not Karate America) and went through the program to the 1/2 way point (purple belt). The cost started to get a little pricey with all the extra cost that was needed to join one of the two "teams" to continue on, and then the sparring equipment cost, etc. We bowed out due to that. Plus, I found it frustrating that some kids advanced because they made their X number of days to be allowed to test to the next level even though they didn't have the same skill set as those kids that worked harder and such. I do applaud the kids for getting out there and trying their best, but, some kids didn't appear to be trying any harder. That wasn't right. Tonight my son sports a Green belt in Karate! My wife just about went through the roof when I presented him with his first pair of Sai! |

My wife just about went through the roof when I presented him with his first pair of Sai! That's awesome! Yeah, I'm pretty proud. (chest buldging with pride) They presented him with it in front of the entire class. The instructors all on their knees in front of Nathan, then Nathan in Samurai tradition bows lowers to his knees (making the motion as if he was wearing a sword and moving it back). After they present it to him he stands turns his back takes off his old belt sticks it in his Gi puts on his new belt and then turns to face the instructors. It's a very emotional moment for all. |

Our instructors will not promote a student until he or she has demonstrated the ability required for that particular belt. |

I have no idea where to get new strings locally. Oh, there's got to be a music store or two that have 'em. I know there's a violin rental shop somewhere because X2 got strings for her older daughter's violin there. That's what I thought. Most of the ones nearby only sell guitar strings. It's weird. |

I know it's not the smart thing to do right now, but after signing up for IMWI this last weekend I know I'm going to be on the bike for the next whole year and it makes me want to upgrade. If I could sell my bike for a decent amount, it wouldn't seem so bad in my mind. But really... do I really need to drop $2K (after selling my bike) on a new one? Sigh. He's offering for anyone who is interested to ride it this weekend after Redman. It's tempting. Yeah, you really do need to buy that. |

Not good for anyone if it snaps.meherczeg - 2009-09-17 1:32 PM brought my car in for an oil change (way overdue) and apparently my serpentine belt needs to be replaced - it sounds kind of important so i'm having them replace it. It is. Mine broke and caused all kinds of problems in my engine. Not good. Better than if the timing belt snaps...we had two customers with interference fit engines with broken timing belts in the last few weeks...they both started up after new belts. We were all in awe. |

I went dream shopping tonight while taking my P2C in for repairs tonight (my baby is BROKEN!!!! I'm heartbroken - I hope I don't need a new frame... ) Anyway, they said they will take my 08 P2C in for a trade on a new P3... hubba hubba.... They also had a canceled order of ZIPP 303's hanging on the wall for 1k.... The thing is, I already have a tri bike and HED3 race wheels. When will this obsession of getting better bikes ever end? Davenport, IA | Subject: RE: TAN # 84 - The TAN-somest Thread Ever Spokes - 2009-09-17 10:52 PM I have two bikes - a 2003 Trek 2200 and undetermined date K2 Firebird mountain bike. I see no reason to own a better road bike as I don't race... and if I *did* race, I'd use the 2200 (in case I were to crash) for racing and the nice bike for training/rec rides. I'm thinking of buying a used hybrid for riding on the trainer this winter (or an older road bike) during the dark months. Why not use the 2200 on the trainer? |
