Pector55 - 2010-09-17 7:36 AM I won't be attending the dinner and I'll probably just stay a bit secluded as I prepare.  I thought about the race and it's just not going to be enough of a challenge so I decided to do it with the following additions to make it worth the drive:

- >200lbs
- broken bone in right hip
- pink eye
- strep throat

LOL  WTF!!!!  I will do this thing.  At this point it's starting to tick me off.

Dude, I mean this in as nice a way as possible, but I am really looking forward to NOT meeting you!  Hope you feel decent by race day.

Good luck lunatics.  I wish that I was joining you, but one of my best friends decided to get married, and it f-ed up my September.

Does anyone have an extra latex tube I could buy from them at the race?  I flatted while riding the course two weeks ago, and flatted my spare this morning on a "make sure everything is working fine" ride - guess I'll be replacing that tire before the race.

I'm good on the tire, but I don't know any LBS that carries latex tubes... a little late for mail order.

If anyone could help out, I'd be glad to more than cover your costs.  My cell is 44three85four30four9.

Good luck to all savages this weekend.  This is my dream race (and will probably my first HIM) in 2012.

Sorry Josh I don't use latex tubes.

Bib 288 here

Just back from the dinner. It was pretty good. No Dave Scott but Jeff Mellet spoke and drew some cartoons. Gonna go through my stuff one more time and get ready to hit the hay before too late.

Good luck everybody

tripadigin - 2010-09-08 8:35 PM Anyone else willing to share their goals for the race?  Just curious.

I'm hoping somewhere between 6 and 6:15...  This is definitely not an "A" race for me, so my main goal is to just have fun.

My time on the Oak tree today was listed as 5:58:11.  How'd everyone else do?

Utter meltdown for me.  Details (what I remember) in my log.  My med tent chart says I was admitted with a HR of 178 even though my Garmin says I ran a 13 minute last mile

Well, I didn't win my age group
I didn't place in my age group
I won't be getting a brick because I fell on the wall
I didn't get my sub 6:00 goal
But I finished, and I am a SavageMan

10 in my AG, 6:31:07. I was 5th in AG off the bike but blew up on the run.

Kyle, you seem like such a nice guy. Why are you so evil???

Full race report to follow at some point today.

What a beautiful day we had yesterday.  Props to Kyle for a fantastic, albeit sadistic event.  Hope everyone is recovering after that brutal test.

Personally, I had a score to settle with this course.  My time in 2008 was 7:29:45.  Yesterday I went 5:57:43, 10th place, 40-44 AG.  Over 90 min. improvement.  Still hurt like heck though.

I was embarrasingly slow but you know... I did make the wall and I wish it was on video.  I felt like a fullback again.  People fell off to the right and left so I had to hammer it up the gut.

When I hit Maynardier Ridge I started cramping badly in my quads (teardrop).  I spun in an easy gear for the remainder of the bike but it was very painful during the run.  It was evident that I did not have the required bike fitness for this event.  Even if I had to crawl across, I was going to finish.

Thanks for keeping the swim flat.

Definite gut check yesterday. Michael and Josh were put to the test with a few more turns of the screw. Glad everyone made it. I won't soon forget that one. Great to see many of you and put a name with a avatar!

Just wanted to say thanks Kyle for a great race.  It really is top notch, and actually puts WTC to shame in my opinion.

Pretty cool to have Graves/Ficker show up and both crush it like that too.  I don't remember much from my run, but I do remember seeing her 3 times Embarassed.

It's good to be humbled sometimes, and your race humbles everyone... even those who have great days.  You made fun of my aero helmet not being tucked between my shoulder blades on killer miller... I thought to myself "we'll see about that" but in the end Savageman had the last laugh today.

I gotta say you guys put on BY FAR the nicest pre-race dinner I've ever been too as well.  If only the finish wasn't in the state park so you could have a beer tent, I'd give your race an A++.

One piece of I hope constructive criticism... I'm hardly a prude, but several family members and friends commented to me that they found the finish line announcing a bit off color and not families-with-young-children-friendly.  I wasn't there so I have no opinion, but wanted to pass on the feedback.  I know having Brad is one of the things Savageman takes pride in, so I'm reserving judgment for now.

finished just a few minutes off my 6:45 prediction.  the run was a bit worse than i had imagined but the ~2:20 HM just seemed to "fly" by.
....it was an awesome race, especially for my first HIM.  the organization, the volunteers, competitors, everything, it was all TOP NOTCH.  everyone was so nice.
great job Kyle with planning such a spectacular event.
Josh and Tim - it was nice to meet both of you.  maybe we'll meet up again.
congratulations to all who finished!

Well said.  I was humbled back in May at Black Bear and it made me train harder for this event.  Now knowing it wasn't enough makes me realize that I put in the volume but not nearly enough intensity.  Next year I'll be better.

I also found the volunteers to be exceptional and friendly.  Even the locals who were just out to watch were extremely friendly and seemed pleased that we were in town.

I went it looking for a sub 6:40 and got that. The run was BRUTAL! It's a killer, that's the slowest half I ever ran. I did 2:06 at Eman but it was 95F and about 104F heat index. Here the weather was perfect but the terrain...... something was wrong, it kept going up and down.

Kyle fantastic race. Hope everyone receovers and comes back next year!

Anyone thinking of the Gran Fondo? The Diabolical Double? Or the Savage 103? They look tempting

I agree with everyone, what a great event!

Everybody that I encountered including the race staff, the volunteers, the police, the park staff,  the local residents, the spectators and other athletes was friendly, helpful and incredibly supportive.  First transition that I have ever been in that the other athletes were worried about others on the race as they were setting their stuff up.  I heard more then once.."Do you have enough room?"

What a beautiful and (needless to say) challenging course!

I also want to say what a pleasure it was meeting Jef Mallet.  What an awesome guy!

I came there with three goals....

1.  To Have Fun

2.  To get a Brick

3.  To Finish

I am happy to report that I accomplished all three!!!

It was not the speediest of times.. in fact my slowest 1/2 Marathon ever, but that really wasnt one of my goals so no worries there.  I ended up running with my buddy and training partner for the past year, so it was one of the most fun runs (although painful) that I have had!

Thanks to everybody (including and especially my family) that made this such a great weekend!
