Just registered for the North Face Endurance Challenge 50 miler in San Francisco! I have truly lost my mind, but this is just scary enough to make me train. :)

And you're just crazy enough to pull it off. :)

climbing those things wouldn't bother me much but i suspect having to carry a parachute for miles 25 and 31 probably makes things a little more challenging.

crazy lady.

Thanks for all the well wishes! Yep, I have many miles of mountain trail training to complete in the next few months.  I LOVE the parachute idea, John... if they just weren't so heavy to pack around, damn. LOL

How's everything going in Penticton? Are our soon-to-be Ironmen soaking up the atmosphere, doing some practice swims, buying Mdot gear, getting gear ready? I want to know all the details!

Yep, we saw this when we were in Knoxville.  Not sure the Oly will be on my calendar afterall.  It bumps up against the Dairyland Dare 150k bike race and 2.4m swim the next day.  Too many choices when the season is so short!

I am no where near it but my parents are on Long Island and expected to take a direct hit.  They say they are not being told to evacuate...

We have a rental property on the beach about 20 miles south of Wilmington, NC.  Have just been talking to a realtor about selling it.  Hope there is something to sell come Sunday Surprised

I was supposed to fly through Philly to Winston Salem, NC on Sunday and USAir called today to cancel the flight.  Now flying through Detroit.  Hope it isn't too bumpy!

Hope our Maryland and VA peeps don't have too much trouble from this mess.

The grandkids went to the zoo today so I was able to sit down at the PC long enough to bash out my RR for last Sunday:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=266280

I did this all without the use of my right ring finger which is now wrapped in a splint (no great feat because I'm pretty good on a keyboard).   I don't think I mentioned that I saw a finger specialist about 10 days back and he said the tensor tendon was severed.  So, yesterday I went in for a short operation.  They used a local anesthetic to numb out the finger, made a cut in the top and then somehow inserted a wire about 3 inches long into the finger to keep it straight.  It stays in for 8 weeks and then they cut again and yank it out.  When I saw him 10 days back, he gave me the go ahead to keep training and do the Oly.  He told me I would be able to work out soon after the operation.  After he finished the operation, he told me no swimming for at least a week, but I should be okay to run and bike.  Hmmmm.   I'm taking painkillers and antibiotics - this thing has a good solid ache right now.  I'm planning to head out soon to run 20 km and will find out tomorrow if I can ride a bike with this darned bulky splint on - it runs the whole length of my finger and is wrapped in a couple layers of gauze.

Safe wishes to those of you on the east coast.

Sorry to hear about the tendon tear Dan, take care of your hand and don't push too hard!

My parents vacation was supposed to be this weekend in Ocean City, Maryland, of course, no one is vacationing there now due to mandatory evacuations. Outer Banks is getting the strongest damage at the moment.

I'm on Cape Cod enjoying a vacation with my kids, parents, and both my sisters who flew in from HI and CA.  I'm not that worried. Granted its a storm we won't want to go out in but from past experience these storms lose a lot of strength by the time they get up here. We will put away/protect all our patio furniture etc and move our cars away from the trees but that's about all we can do. I'm more worried about my home which boarders a flood area and has lots of tall trees surrounding it (and hadnt' had a chance to have cut down yet) but would rather weather the storm with my family.

Stay safe, Christina. From what I've read, this storm isn't following the typical path.

At this point here in DC we'll get a lot of rain and wind tonight but that's about it.  Enough though to cancel my Cyclocross camp I was going to this weekend : (

Good Luck again to all our Racers this weekend.  Represent!  We will all be watching!!!

Healing thoughts to our post surgery boys!

Good luck to our East Coasters in riding the storm out!!

Group ride this morning and got to ride with our most recent local USAT Olympic Triathlete Lauren Jensen, opps typo, Gwen Jorgensen and her coach.  He is looking to get her some high speed group work for the bike, so it sounds like they will be regulars with our group.  Pretty cool to watch her coach work with her up the hills, etc.
