he's at the WTC meeting right now and posting updates in the texas forum.  there are some pretty excited people down here.   and some people scratching their head about a late may date.

kickitinok - 2010-06-23 10:00 AM That would be my new bike. Took it out for 1.5 hours last night and the entire ride was almost effortless. What a difference a decent bike makes!

Such an awesome feeling!!! Congratulations!

When it starts to feel like there's big effort again... clean your chain. I've learned that gives you the new bike feeling all over again!

Didn't know that. Thanks for the advice!

SSMinnow - 2010-06-23 6:12 AM  Cheeleader Jump WOW, I am beyond excited today.....I know we have a lot of people racing this weekend. Raise those hands and tell us your plans!!!!

Ok...I signed up to race this weekend late yesterday evening.  After much debate on the Wisconsin BT Forum (some of which is still pretty heated) on which race to do as there are 2 races within a hour of home this weekend, I signed up the the Pleasant Prairie Oly.  I am taking a page out of my fellow Badger MG'er Minnow's training process and using this purely as a "training" race with no taper and with several objectives:

1.  Test out my fix of my nutrition issues from my last race
2.  Run fast, Run fast, and Run fast.  And then I want to run fast!
3.  Sight better on my swim.

4.  Have Fun, don't worry about my time, and then Hang with the Donkeys!

Hope everybody has a safe racing & training weekend.  Go steady and strong you IM Studs!

YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE DOING THIS!!!  I was just telling Twin how fun it is to be able to test out different strategies without worrying about the ultimate finish time!  So....now my advice....quantify what "run fast, run fast, run fast" means....is it a zone? a feeling/RPE (my favorite way to fly) or something else?

I was just talking to my coach about using Racine70.3 to test a couple things since it isn't an A race....really want an idea of how much harder I can bike and how it will effect my run.  Feel like I was too conservative at High Cliff because I was worried about blowing up on the run--if I do in Racine, great learning, right??? With 4 weeks to go he is thinking he might agree to it.....Very excited!!!

Great advice........and to quantify......this objective is all about RPE.  I plan on finding out just how far into the "hurt locker" I can go in regards to speed.  I know that I need to break through this "mental pace wall" I have set for myself about running and have been unable to do it when training to my satisfaction.  I am not wearing the Garmin for pacing and really want to just go hard and make it hurt, and then find out how fast I can really be when I am done!

Happy the coach is playing nice about Racine HIM.  I am thinking I may need to volunteer at that race with all the "peeps" I know that are doing it!  Sounds like a fast course as long as Lake Michigan cooperates.....FYI there is a Racine course ride being set up for July 3rd @ 7:30 am. If you are interested PM me and I will get you the details.

Good luck Dino!  Have you been talking to our coach or something???  It is one of his favorite sayings that he uses with me.  "Enter the hurt locker at mile 10, and see if you can stay there!!!"  omg.  Can't wait to see how you do!  Go get 'em!!!

For those of us not racing, reflect back on your last race or even the early season and give us your  biggest learning so far!  It might help others in the MG!

Hi gang,

I have a fun sprint race in Charlottesville on Sunday.  Real short OWS and rolling bike course w/ a 5k trail run.  Going w/ a friend Sat. night and then we are both racing Sunday.  Should be fun and low stress.  And after the past few months I'm looking forward to that.

Good luck racers - I will check in on Sunday evening to see how everyone did and fill you in on my race.

I agree - tough to find the right RPE / pain equation...  Good luck Dino - just remember - you can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat  - break down the "Wall"

Finally I've been able to read 33 pages of forum posts!! Just to prove it...I'm gonna comment on some of the things I've read. ;-)

Ashort33 - Mentioned about using Super Soaker at LV at John.   Technically, it was in the 30's last year! I think it was just REALLY cold. It was a weird weather that day because the day before it was warm, and the day after it was warm (I'm talking about high 40's low 50's), but this day it was freezing. So I HIGHLY recommend that you dress warmish.

Tracy - WAY TO HIT sub-30 for your 5K!!

Suzy said "DJ-How did you select the shoes you are wearing? have you ever had a gait analysis at your LRS or from a PT?  The shoes are not old enough to warrant replacing so you are right, it could be a form issue or it could be the wrong shoe for you.  It's hard to tell what the problem might be from your description.  Does it hurt in a wide area or a small pinpoint location?  If it hurts from the first step to the last step of a run, you shouldn't be running until you figure it out."

Suzy - It would happen when I LAND on my foot when I run, it's never a constant pain. More of a pinpoint location. Doesn't hurt when I walk. So that's why I think it's more of a shoes thing, and maybe, just maybe, with the small change I did with my form as I was being too bouncy. Since then I have used one pair, then replaced it with another pair (first it was Support, then the second was neutral because the support "bump" was irritating.  I've sent you a PM, so, read that. :-) So far, the third shoe seem to be a keeper.

Kyla - Yeah I agree...My legs are NOT photo-worthy. I have thick calves, thick upper legs...bleh! Not a pretty sight.

Tony - Love the pictures! Didn't anyone notice the kid next to him is scratching his a$$? I can picture his future...

 Whew...I'm done!

Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!!

I have been awol lately as me and the family went to greater DC for an extended father's day weekend. I got in my workouts including riding 10 laps on Hain's Point (without my cycling shoes! Yes another shoe issue). I learned yesterday that the father of my best friend, Tom, (who I have known for 40 years) died. I drove back to Raleigh in the hopes of being able to make the funeral. Unfortunately, I just had to tell Tom that I could not make it work logistically. I am really distraught over not being there for him. I am closer to him than my actual older brother.

We knew this day for his Dad was coming, but it does not make it easier. He is the only one who can keep things together in his family when things go bad.

On top of that I have Board of Directors meeting saturday AM for the non-profit I run and then I am racing Sunday in a Sprint. Needless to say I have less-than-optimum focus at the moment.

Good luck to everyone racing.

Doug

I am sorry to hear about your friends loss and yours as well since you are good friends.

I am getting frustrated with trying to get all the training in. I am in the last couple weeks of the quarter and the time it takes is maddening. The fact that I havent been to the store to replace my cycling shoes really cut training that out. I am hitting the pool tomorrow and I am going to try and run at the park. I am gonna take the pooch and get her some exercise, she is getting fat like me lol.

I was looking at getting her some of those boots for the trails due to all the rocks and hot surfaces and also maybe one of those leashes that tie around my waist. Does anyone here have any good tips on how to keep her focused on the run instead of trying to chase everything lol. I know that I am slow and that is not helping as she just looks at me like "WTF dude I am barely moving".

I hate to hear the word pinpoint.  Can you locate the exact spot of pain? If you push on it what happens? if you jump on it what happens?  A precursor to a stress fracture is a stress reaction......
