Down 6 lbs since we started! and 16 lbs since 12/14/2008. I agree with a lot of the past few posters. I feel better no that I am eating better nutrient foods plus the exercise. Granted that I was 294 on 12/14 so hitting 278 today was nice.  I have followed in Kathy G's footsteps and slowly started removing a lot of the processed "white" carbs I would eat a lot of too. I think that combined with the sugar has jum started my weight loss down again too. Although, I need to get more carbs from somewhere I think. The last couple of days I have been low on the calories and carbs I want to take in. I want to be at least at 1600 calories a day. I seem to be spiking my Protein or Fat intake to make my calories. Although, I am not hungry most of the time. Today when I was working out was the first time my stomach was grumbling while I worked out. I also have tried to stop eating after about 8 PM which is tough for me as I work till 11 PM, but I think that ease boredom eating and working from home I can grab whatever I want.

Teas have been my evening go to also. Spiced Chai tea is very pleasing plain. I recommend trying it.

Congrats to Ray and Kathy for big pound losses!!

I have to log another ding as we went to my Aunts for New Years Day and lets just say I DINGED big time!  I have to start fresh now, well tomorrow, and with all the sugar I took in, I'm sure to go throught the withdrawl again... sigh

My wife bakes just cause she loves to bake ... I told her to knock it off for the next two months, or if she does bake stuff to put it away where I can't see it!

Happy New Year everyone! I got my 2nd ding last night and, actually, I have to admit it was worth it Unfortunately, it has made me crave sugar ever since, so I'm not sure THAT is worth it. Great job to everyone who managed to get through last night's festivities ding free!!!

I got a ding too, ice cream....it wasn't even in the house...we went out specifically to get it last night.

I can view the spreadsheet, but I can't edit it....getting this messege:

"You are currently viewing Google Docs in basic HTML. Switch to a supported browser to edit and share Google Docs in real time."

Can someone log it in for me, pls?

thanks,  liz

I'm not "technically" in the challenge, since I'm just daily dinging by drinking a daily soda ( I was just substituting by drinking juice all the time).

But I am down about 5 pounds!  Of course, that can almost happen in a day, so we'll see if it sticks.

I'm definitely drinking a LOT more water (yay!). and much better food (no more chips, pretzles, cookies).

I can't believe I've only had one cupcake in almost two weeks and that was my only chocolate!

LeahDD - 2009-01-01 9:29 AM I have discovered Celestial Seasonings tea.  I am not a "regular" tea drinker and I only drink coffee in the morning.  Before this challenge I would drink Diet Coke and sometimes in the evening a very weak hot chocolate (mostly hot milk made with the 25 calorie fat-free hot chocolate mix).  Both are banned in this challenge, but the Celestial Seasonings tea seems to satisfy the need for a hot liquid at night.  I haven't tried all the flavors yet, but so far they seem to do the trick.

Sleepytime is my favorite.

Do you drink Sleepytime because it tastes good or because it helps you sleep or both?  I haven't tried it, but I do have sleep issues.  However, mostly my sleep issues are staying asleep, not getting to sleep.  I assume Sleepytime is useful for getting to sleep.

It tastes good and I marginally think it helps me sleep.  Or maybe I want to think it does?

I may have to be a little more scientific about it and actually write things down to finally decide.

Kathy, I bought the book you recommended last night.  I've read other psychology books by Dr. Beck, but not her weight loss books.  Hopefully, she can teach me something that helps.

I'm not pleased that my weight has stayed the same since starting this challenge.  In 2 weeks, I have eaten sugar on 3 occasions, which is a huge decrease for me.  I thought I would have seen some sort of weight loss.  All I have felt is miserable and tired.

I watched the whole family (husband and four kids) eat perfect chocolate chip cookies last night! My 19-year-old daughter makes the most wonderful cookies...they looked and smelled SO good! That just means I am even more proud of myself for not partaking! However, I have not lost even ONE STINKING POUND!!! I'm still trying, but that makes me so mad!

Do you think we should start a separate thread to discuss the book?

Did you get the green or red/pink book?

I think what has helped me is besides removing sugar which honestly I didn't eat a lot of, was adding in more exercise both tri training and doing something new Zumba classes, plus I'm eating less with removing all white stuff not just sugar.

We could start another thread about the book, as I think a couple of other people mentioned that they were ordering the book.  I went to Staples this morning to buy index cards, a notebook, and other necessary stuff to start this.

I bought the green book.  It was on a big fancy display with other diet books in the front of B&N.

Which Beck book did you read?  Pink?  Thanks,  Liz

If I had control I'd ask for no bread basket but normally I'm with my family and they want some so I need to be strong.

I order some type of meat usually fish or chicken with a salad no dressing use what I bring with me, veggies and sometimes double veggies if they have starch. One place we used to go to before it was closed for not paying taxes had baked sweet potatoes.

One of the hardest adaptations I had to make when I started losing weight was going out to eat was not I ordered everything I really like but what is healthy for me. When I was a kid we'd go out to eat we'd get appetizers, what ever we wanted to eat and desert...it was an eating celebration. It took me a good 2 years to over come that thinking. I'm sort of a pain to go out to eat with as I'm very picky, ask lots of questions, and want food prepared healthy.

I'm so sorry I didn't see this before. I'm a sugar-olic of the worst kind and I really want to cut down so this challenge would have been perfect for me

I'm joining in anyway, prize or no prize. This will be hard but rewarding (I guess -gulp)

I'm back after a few days absence and just recorded my dings. We went out to dinner on New Year's Eve with some friends who are also active and eat fairly healthy. Well, all was good until time to order dessert. I didn't place an order but I also couldn't resist sharing the chocolate molten cake which was YUMMY! I then followed that up with a homemade oatmeal raisin cookie on New Year's Day.

I am happy to report that I am back on track.

DC I again want to thank you for starting this challenge. I have tried to cut back or give up sugar on my own in the past and without success. I am doing much better with this challenge. Like you, I think that I can come closer to achieving my fitness goals by cleaning up my diet. This is helping so much! I hope we can continue even after Feb 28.
