Elite 4148 Utah | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Exactly... I love the Traditional Medicinal teas. There are some of them that I swear by. I drink the throat coat quite a lot when I get a sinus infection as well. "Garlic is able to increase red blood cells, which increase ones energy and Gotta admit... the socks idea is pretty unique How do you get your feet in them, if they freeze stiff??? Frost bite? More please!!! |

New user 41 Portland | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I know it sounds totally crazy, but I was a few days out from my marathon and a friend suggested and I was desperate and was willing to try anything. It worked and I've since used it! I didn't think I'd be able to do it because I can't fall asleep until my feet warm up. The first few minutes are like going to bed in the winter with cold feet. a couple minutes later you are all warm and toasty.
There are lots of variations on how to do it. Some say just cold water and to take a warm shower/bath before hand. I've got them wet and put them in the freezer for 5 minutes or so and put them on. Sometimes with the hot shower, sometimes without. I was told to do it until all symptoms are gone, others say just a few days.
There are lots of info online, here's some info: This at-home treatment, commonly prescribed by naturopathic medical doctors, is a natural method of stimulating the immune system and zapping a cold or flu. It involves putting on ice-cold socks and sleeping in them! It may sound toe-curling, but it works because it actually boosts the body’s defenses, stimulating the body to heal itself. Although the treatment is cold, it’s known as a “heating compress” because it’s up to the body to heat the cold, wet socks. Blood circulation is increased in reaction to the cold, which increases the body’s immune system — a natural way of fighting off the flu or cold and other conditions (see list below). This treatment acts to reflexively increase the circulation and decrease congestion in the upper respiratory passages, head and throat. It also has a sedating action, and many patients report that they sleep much better during the treatment. The treatment is also effective for pain relief and increases the healing response during acute (“new&rdquo infections. The wet sock treatment can be used in conjunction with other modalities to treat inflammation, infection or soreness of the throat, headaches, migraines, nasal congestion, upper respiratory infections, coughs, bronchitis and sinus infections. It’s important to accompany the treatment with proper nutrition, hydration (drink half your body weight in ounces of purified water daily), and any immune-boosting herbs and supplements your doctor may prescribe for you. Consult your doctor to develop an immune-boosting regime that’s specifically designed for you and your needs

Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I got so many varying forecasts for Cairns last weekend from rain and thunder and wind to sunny and still. The one that got it right was the BBC UK! Their forecast for Boise is 43F at 6am getting up to 61F. The best part is the wind is only forecast to be 7mph for your swim getting up to 11mph max. Good luck to all!!!! |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread I didn't really realize there were so many weather sites out there! I've been checking them all, or most of them. Now, I'm realizing, it is what it is, and I can't control it. Put my head down and swim. Get on the bike, ride smart. Controlled strong run. Time will be what it will be. Or at least that is the plan for the next hour while I can't check weather on my drive home. I'm sure once I get home, I'll see if they've changed the forecast to 73 degrees and still winds! |

It's right by Boise Town Square, the local mall. Prolly 4 miles from downtown, off the freeway. |

Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Flying in today. All packed, hope I've remembered everything. Looking forward to getting into town. One thing that I liked about last year's race was the energy in town with all the triathletes around. Good times. Ready to roll! |

I think I'm traveling w/ a fairly experienced crew that'll know where to swim. However, As a local, I'd highly respect your recommendations. Gonna try and swim tomorrow around lunch. Thinking of a short run on the green belt when we get in this afternoon. And will take my bike for a quick spin before I check it. Looking to pull out of here in the next few hours, so we should arrive around 5 this afternoon |

Looking to pull out of here in the next few hours, so we should arrive around 5 this afternoon There are a couple of ponds we commonly swim at. Clocktower and Veterans Pond. I attached a little map to show you. They are right off the greenbelt so you can swim/bike/run from them no problem. Edit: it's not linked to the park, but the park is just north of the locator on google maps. YOu can park for Veterans off of Veterans Memorial Parkway and State street. Extreme Veteran 724 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Had a scary incident last night. I was carrying my daughter and my bike and a closing door banged my hand that was pushing the bike. Instantly I had a sharp pain and swore I broke a bone because closing it hurt like hell. Went to the doctor this morning with slightly less pain and it appears to only be a bad bruise right next to a nerve. Should be settled down in a day or two but won't have any impact on racing. Heading out around 1:30 today so won't get into Boise until between 9-10pm. Not ideal, but it shouldn't cause too much of an issue. |

Elite 4564 Boise | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread Saturday, very hard. You have to walk it at a good long distance. You can't drive up there and I believe the lower parking lot is now closed off as well. I'd just do Friday. They have pumps in T1 you can use if you want, day of the race. I think the shuttle is the best way to go. I've used it both times I raced. |

Regular 789 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread what are peoples plans for workouts tomorrow? I was thinking about swimming in veterans or clock tower than riding, and running. You can actually do it all from there as there is parking there. I was thinking maybe 11-12 workout maybe earlier? Anyone have ideas? let me know what you are all up to. |
