Lonestar,  as of now the hubby and I want to come.  We will probably do the olympic b/c we are doing a half at the beginning of May.  Is this a kids free weekend?  Well, it probably will be for me anyway.  Count me in!

No kids for us!  Drew will be in school.  I can't believe it - my little baby boy starts K in 5 weeks.

Jeremy, if you can talk your wife into a little vacation you could do one of the shorter distance races and then we could sherpa the HIM together.

My wife sounds like she could be convinced!  I just looked at the maps, there's no elevation - Saweet, fast!

I looked at the maps, I'm not big on doing multiple laps for races.  But there is ample time for me to be ready for an HIM...  I'd still prolly only do the Oly.

Did we already register the race here on BT?  I'll look into it, if it's not there I'll post the HIM and Oly races.  That way it's on the radar in our 'planned races'

I realize the travel cost for us is zilch but they are a big part of team Davis so they'll be there for at least part of it if not the whole time.   We've managed to keep somewhat of an "adult life" so I don't think it will be an issue in that regard.

The run on the HIM was changed last year due to Ike at the last minute to four laps.  People were concerned about this at first but after reading the reviews, talking to lots of folks, and running the 1/4 myself thoughts changed for the most part and people thought it was really cool.

This will play a cool role if we do have a big group, like it's looking, because there will be support all over the course.

And with the HIM rolling early in the day this year, the temps should be lower, lower for Texas that is ;-)

No race, but doing a whole different kind of endurance event: Driving the family across the state to see the Grandparents.  Distance: 380 miles  Goal: Keep sanity, arrive sub-9 hrs

We are going to spend some time at our river property.  Suzy, I'll take a pic from the deck, looks just like the pics you posted from the lake.

As sam said we are going sans kids for this one, our plan was to get there closer to race day and stay a few days after to actually have some fun.

Getting to a race early by a few days usually stinks because you are so anxious for the race, trying to eat right, etc, after the race though, no stress, just eating & Drinking.

I miss like 4 hours and I'm behind!!
Great run Sam - without the crowd you were there at 25min.
Andy - I hate them as well, but I use zommers when I have to to do them. otherwise, I'd never move anywhere.
Matt- try for a PB on that drive. Good Luck.
Lonestar- still trying to work the wife on it. Don't think it matches up with her spring break. But we ar working it hard.

And I have a 10k run this weekend. Its a Ronald McDonald House Run. So good cause and i think alot of people!!

kt65 - 2009-08-04 9:27 PM My abs are frickin KILLing me today.  I guess that is a good thing.  Can't wait for tomorrow's Day 2 of week 1.

And I'm doing baby stuff compared to Tony and Jeremy.  Hmm.  Gotta start somewhere.

Me too - I feel like such a wimpTongue out.  But at least I'm getting it done!  I was originally supposed to start last night after my run but it didn't happen so I did it as soon as I got up this morning.  15-18-10-10-14 for a total of 67 - still more than I've ever done before so I can't complain!

LOL, you saw that picture of Galveston with only one house left right?

Hopefully not that strong though.

Will just be more motivation to stay tucked in aero.

sdalessio - 2009-08-04 10:57 PM SO obviously from all of my posts responding to things from pages ago I am finally catching up on the day.  Whew what a crazy 2 days - I'm looking forward to going back to work so I can sit down in piece and quiet.

Today's recap - drove the first part of the proposed wine bike route.  Good thing - the rolling hills were killer and non-stop and one 4 mile section was a gravel road.  So back to the drawing board.  I did get my cow puddles though.  :-)  YUM YUM

After racing from home to camp drop off to Core/Strength class to 3 hrs. of driving on windy roads in wine/horse country to camp pick up to home to the pool w/ the kids, I arrived back in the house w/ 15min to change into my running clothes and stuff a pb&j sandwich in my mouth before heading to my 5k for a 7pm start.

So a goal this year was a sub 25 min 5k.  I didn't quite think I was ready yet but I wanted to see where I stood.  I warmed up 2.25 miles then the race started 20 min. late UGH!  I started towards the back b/c this local group of runners are fast.  THat was a bit of a mistake since the women all started together and I spent a few hundred yards getting free of the slow runners.  Anyways, I gave it all I had and my proof:
a) last .1 mile I wanted to puke and almost did at the finish line
b) my avg. HR was 175 for the race (my zone 5b)
c) I was that person you don't want running in front, beside or behind you - that person who's is breathing so horrible that you are waiting for them to die or surely go away so you can stop listening to them.

And at the finish I was roughly 15 seconds shy from my goal.  UGH!!!!!!!!!!!  25:15 give or take a few.  I gave it all I had though and I was proud and pleased w/ my effort.  I still have 5 months left this year to make the goal.  On the even brighter side, it is a 5K PR so WOOOOOOOOO  HOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Way to go Samanatha. It doesn't matter what the PB are so long as they keep coming

well got a couple of free minustes here for lunch. can't even remeber most of what I read. The one thing I can comment on is plannning for next year. I haven't even considered anythign yet. I still have about 5 weeks until my HIM and I'm not thinking about anything else.

For kicking in swimming there is a defiinite increase in speed if you are kicking even a little. I do a large hip roatation for each storke and kick once for each arm stroke. I have found that it allowe dme get under 2 minutes per 100 yds very consistently even when I haven't been in the pool for a whiele. Consider ti cross training for your legs mucscles. If it is improving your overall fitness level and endurance how can it be wrong.

Sorry I wasn't able to join into the situp etc challenge. Just not enough time to fit everything in.

Having a ball every day and looking forward to the HIM in Sept. I'd like to get out to the course ahead of time but it's about a 4 hour drive one way. You'd think I wouldn't care with all the travelling I do daily but I am very jealous of my free time right now.

Any way hope everyone has a great day.

Duh what kind of attitude is that   Actually the book has some really good info especially for those of us that don't have years and years of tri's under our belts.

That is an unbelievable story.  Aren't there companies that specialize in shipping bikes places?  and if I come to Lonestar can someone help me put my bike together?  I wouldn't know the first thing about how to do it!

SSMinnow - 2009-08-05 6:33 AM It is Wednesday, who is racing--where? what's the distance? what's the goal?

Me!! Oly--3/4m swim, 34m bike, 10K in Oshkosh Wisconsin.  It is supposed to be 90F and very humid so I am under strict orders to: Swim with a purpose (always do!), keep the Bike in Z3 and if I can't take in calories at that level drop it to Z2 (who wants to do that?) and run like someone is chasing me (and NOT look at my GPS!)  Seriously, primary goal is to moderate the bike to have a stronger run. This has been my achilles heel all season.

Who else?

I'm racing in Westport CT.  It's a 5.85 mile run, it's a weird distance but it's part of a huge running club in CT.  They have races every Sunday during the summers (10 in total) and they increase the distance every week.  I'm racing with a friend we're visiting for the weekend.  I'll mainly be eating his dust, he avgs 6min miles.

BTW I'm kind-of sad..  we officially listed our condo for sale yesterday.  It has treated us well in the last 5 yrs.  I love this place, we customized it to exactly what we wanted at the time..  Unfortunately we are in cost cutting mode (still no job) and expanding the family mode so a condo loft doesn't cut it..  on the bright side, by the weekend we might already have a contract signed on a new place in a great location in NYC that is very family friendly. It's a great layout but it doesn't have that wow factor..  Our current place is like a porsche our potential new place is like a really nice VW.  One great thing is the VW has an outdoor space and is only 1.5 blocks from central park..  If anyone is in the market for a 2200 sqft loft in Chelsea/Flatiron in NYC let me know.  OK i'm going for a run now..

Sorry to hear about your condo, but I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason.    If you do get your new place think about how often you can run in CP! or how close you will be to the action!

tahrens - 2009-08-05 10:13 AM Chris - I agree with what people said but I'll share a piece of experience that works for me.  Get out of that big ring at least 10 minutes before the run!   Doing a high spin coming back for the run really helps work out the lactic acid and it teaches your legs how to move differently for the run.  Since I started doing that my bricks have been so much better.  And BTW, I think we've all felt like that with 8 weeks to go. You'll do great!

Thanks Tracy.  You know, I knew that but did not even think about it.  I agree 100% that it helps your legs.  Thanks for the reminder and confirming that you felt this way with 8 weeks to go.  I was kind of wondering about that.

John, my wife (Robin) is doing it as well.  She's not on BT.  FB is her only internet thing.  The swim looks interesting.  Near the end we'll go between the shore and an island (maybe 50 ft across).  We drove the bike and run courses last week.

Doug, thanks for the names of behind the seat bottles.  I don't see Robin in aero bars for a long time (translated as EVER).

John, re: your chrissie invite - maybe you should have taken down all pictures of yourself first! Wink

Suzy, "Homerun on the suckmeter"  That's hilarious.  Can I use that?

Sam, Tiller's not allowed to be happy about his shutout anymore.  Tim (the other boy's father) and I gave the boy's until sundown Monday to enjoy the shutouts.  Then it's back to business.

Stan, concerning your move...I recently (actually 12 months ago now) went from a Porsche to a VW as well.  4500 sq ft custom home to 2300 sq st spec home.  I'm actually much happier - I don't worry about how everything looks, or if the kids shoes may scratch the wood, etc.  And our neighbors are more down to earth people here too.  Big, fancy places are overrated.
