LOL, I need to see if I can find the series of pictures of me getting out of the water from my first OWS, I took so long walking up the ramp I was in 5 pictures....

EDIT: LOL realized I have lost so much weight I am 2 shirt sizes smaller than the one I wore in this race, WOOT!

how about some more bikini pics.

John:

Did you mean to have a question mark at the end of ^^^^, or were you offering some bikini pics of yourself?

Just askin'

if john posts a speedo pic, and suzy posts a bikini pic, maybe i'll find one, too

13.1 = 1:51:38.  (Not Chet-type numbers, but I am pretty sure it is a PR for me.)

I would post a link to my race log entry, but I am a total luddite and have no idea how to do it.

tahrens - 2010-03-18 4:33 PM Trina,  I saw a saying today that I thought was perfect for your anxiety about Lonestar:

The miracle isn't that I finished.  The miracle is that I had the courage to start.

I'm sure everyone in the MG will agree on how nervous we were before our first races, how we didn't think we were ready physically and that we had no clue what we were doing.  Being nervous is a good thing, it means you care.  Plus you'll have all the MG peeps there cheering you on.  Everything you are feeling is perfectly natural and all part of the training.  Triathlons are mental tests as well as a physical ones.  Keep going and you'll do great.   And great doesn't mean you'll be fast.  Great means you'll be brave, and have a great time, and be a better person for the whole experience.

Thank you, thank you a thousand times thanks! I am starting to see that it's as much mental as it is physical. I thought I had the mental part whooped just mentally toughing out some of my training sessions, but I see now that the mental is ongoing. I've always had a "trick" I've played on my brain for events that I'm nervous about: I tell myself that I'm not really going to do it, that I am just pretending that I'm going to do it, and that I will back-out at the last minute. This typically applies to having surgery, or going on a long trip alone to a strange city, or other daunting events. And it always works. Last time I had surgery, I walked into the hospital telling everyone I was just there to think about having surgery. As they were inserting the IV I told the nurse that I would probably still back out. When I felt the anesthesia coursing up my arm I muttered something like "Ok, I guess I'll go ahead and give it a try."

So when you see me at Lonestar don't be surprised if I say I'm just there to watch. Embarassed

Love the quote. Going to print it and keep it on my bathroom mirror.

Great time man.  Sub 2hr is awesome.

What time did you finish?  It was nice and cool this AM but getting a bit warm out there now.

How was the race itself?

If you go to your race entry you can publish it, there should be a button to make it public.

Awesome job!  And a PR to boot.

We've had a great day here too.  I ran an 8k with a friend.  She blew her goal of sub 11/pace out of the water and held a 9:54 pace.  And that was with running around all the walkers.  And, I got to be there with her....doesn't get much better than that.

Looking forward to tomorrow.....now that is going to be an interesting day.
Foot is uncomfortable, but not painful...so I'm going for it

Thanks Tracy! I'll check out the article!

I just got back in The Dalles after dropping my girl off at the airport in Spokane.  She's off to FT Polk, Louisiana.  I hope she can come down to Lonestar since she won't be too far away! Smile

Finally done with all the traveling for awhile. It was fun, but it's always nice to get back to a normal schedule. Now, I just need to find a new pool to go to since the one we were using here in The Dalles closed the 15th for remodeling that will likely take months.

As I said, I am a luddite so I do not know how to save/publish a race report.  I clicked "save" not "save as draft" but it is still showing up as a draft.

Here is the URL at the top of the page when I am viewing the report:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/races-view-container.asp?raceid=142210

Overall - a really great day and am ecstatic about having run it.  I was almost successful in my strategy.  Slightly slower in the 2nd half, but kept the numbers closer than expected (first 4 miles were really flat or downhill, miles 6-10 were real rollers).  Here is what I wrote in my race report:

Pre-race routine:

Did not sleep well - woke up once from work stress, was woken up by daughter ("bad dream") and son (same).

Woke up at 4:45, had some oatmeal and went to Metro. Got to race site at 6:30, and went to use the bathroom in the Armory. Finished that process at 7:02 (race started at 7:00). Ran to starting line and joined in group crossing the start line

Event warmup:

Insufficient warm-up because of line at the facilities. Warm up was really the first few miles.

   Run

Comments:

Trying to negative split, even though the second half was hillier than the first. Came close to doing so. First half was 54:20. Second half was 57:18. Walked some of the aide stations. Was definitely moving into the survival shuffle mode at the end.

Post race

Event comments:

Only real negative was the crowds. There were 8000 people doing the half marathon and 4 doing the full. very crowded course. Other than that, it was great. (Wouldn't have minded some pizza at the finish, but the post race refreshments were good otherwise.)

hehe welcome to running races in DC.  If it's one of the big ones they are all packed.  I am pretty much one and done with all the races in this area.

If you get a chance check out her race reports

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=199964&posts=21#M2737879

We met her a couple of years ago at Miami, she puts some serious work into all her race reports.  Always tons of pictures of the course and goings on.
