Hmm next ride in only the big ring. I will have to call my wife from the garage to carry me in the house.

KelliD - 2010-08-04 11:47 AM I like this option best

bzgl40 - 2010-08-03 5:02 PM

Depends on where my RD is.  If it is near the middle I don't touch it.  If it is at a point where I might drop my chain I'll shift it or I'll shift with no tension on the chain at all, then slowly start applying the pressure and it tends to not drop.  When in doubt though shift the RD.

Or, HTFU and get some power in your legs and stay in big ring.  HA!

It is the SMU pool. They have a year pass for like 150 or $5 per drop in. Also tell her about the group I swim with that swims at TI (635 & 75) and The Colony pools in the am $75 for the rest of the year.

Yeah Dallas is in a huge budget shortfall.

KelliD - 2010-08-04 11:44 AM My friend in Dallas was just complaining about how all public lap pools have just closed for the year (i believe bc of lack of funding/budget cuts).

What pool is this?  I wonder if it would work for her.

Newtons1st - 2010-08-04 10:22 AM I have been really dreading this time of the year because I was thinking I would have to miss swims for the next 3 weeks. HS Band has started so the wife is taking #1 in the am which means every morning I have to take #4 to daycare. That means no am swims. I can ows on the weekend but thats not enough. I think I have found a solution. I went by my old college and they have an outdoor 50 meter pool that opens at 12:00. $5 drop in fee so not too bad for 3 weeks. Something for me to do at lunch. 1st test comes today

Issue #2 after many calls e-mails with Saris and tinkering I think my receiver for my Poertap is what is bad. So I am going to get another one to test and if not I will have to send the wheel back to Saris. I got it off eBay from a local and it worked for the first week. Now I lose connection during rides. Just get dashed lines. With all the PT people here anyone have a spare receiver to sell?

Question for the group.....I'm following the Higdon novice plan for my marathon.  My goal is to get to the starting line healthy and finish, no time goals to speak of.  The Marine Corps is pretty hilly for the first 8 miles.  Hills are my absolute nemesis.  I think I hate going down them more than up.  Along with trying to include hills in my long runs, I am thinking about substituting hill repeats for one of my weekday shorter runs.  Never done them before.  Any recommendations/advice?

I am doing hill repeats for one of my runs.  Although I don't know that I'd call it my short run though.  It's key to properly warm up.  I like a 15 minute warm up for me, it seems to be where my legs start to feel good and the body is responding properly.  You don't want too steep of a hill but it should be long enough to run roughly 2 minutes on it.  Then slowly job down to the starting point again.  You could even walk it really until your body adjusts to it.  That downhill is your recovery period.

Blah, about to join a meeting where I basically have to tell someone she has 30 days to shape up or she'll be shipped out.  I hate that type of stuff.  But, I hate dealing with an under performer even more.  You can only try and bring them along for so long.

Haha seriously?

I mean, I've staked claim on most of KFK's body parts... so I get it.  But that's a new way of putting it.  Maybe it's a TX thing?

A couple weeks ago my Grandparents called to talk and asked about my triathlon training.  They told me my aunt and uncle were training for a race but didn't really tell me which one.  They called again today so we asked about it and it's actually 4 races throughout the year.  It's called En Svensk Classiker (A Swedish Classic) and you have to complete all four races in a 12 month span.  It involves skiing (90km), swimming (3km), biking (300km), and running (30km).  The bike is around a huge lake that I lived by when i was younger and we're my family still lives.  The skiing is the Vasaloppet which after some research I found out is one of the biggest cross country ski races in the world.

For anyone who wants to read more about the races I found this artice: http://www.sweden.se/eng/Home/Lifestyle/Sport-leisure/Reading/Vasaloppet/

We call them Betsy Balls because our beloved BvD introduced us to them.  She brought them to a get together at JCs, I made them for a get together on Father's Day and will make them again for the post Bridgeland festivities!  I know they are technically Oreo Truffles but they will always be Betsy Balls to us.
