A quick check of cfbstats.com shows a 97.9% for the 99 kickers considered eligible for their stat sheet.

I agree that the XPis meaningless, and if it was all about the game itself, we should probably get rid of XPs.

But after I thought about it, I kind of like the fact that players and fans have a period of time to celebrate after a TD, knowing the XP is automatic.  If teams had to go for 2 all the time, you would eliminate a lot of TD celebrations.  And I'm not talking about the silly dances...sometimes simply a QB running towards his receiver down the field with his hand up in the air to give him a pat on the back allows the players to show some emotion after a big scoring play.  It also allows fans ample time to give high fives around the room when watching the game on TV or at a bar.

So maybe I'm in favor of automatic 7 points for a TD, and 6 points with the option to go for 2 if you want.

And I'm not sure why people think it's a marketing thing, but there is no TV break between the TD and the XP currently.

Heck with extra points.  Do away with punting...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGDaOJAYHfo

I was watching some youtube videos and that one popped up as a recommendation.  I thought it was pretty cool and it reminded me of this thread.

There is a commercial after the XP and then again after the kickoff. No XP would remove one of those.

Wouldn't there then be one after the TD and one after the kickoff? How does this remove one?

I'm sure the NFL would push for that, but ideally it would have the same sequence it currently does. Score a TD, line up for the kick(off), then a commercial.

Yeah, that was my thought too.  At first I thought I'd do it like rugby and let them choose how far back to place the ball.  But then, if you had to do the PAT from the 2.5 yard line on the sideline you'd have coaches having to decide how far out to try the kick before it gets impossible and it's better to go for two.

yeah heard on the local news. my issue though would college, high school, and such adapt the same rule? In my high school I think the extra point was the only time he got game play. unless it was like a 20 yard field goal. I think they usually went for it rather than try for 3.

in my high school, the kicker was usually pulled off the soccer team and only played football that one night a week.  didn't even practice with them.  (lots of our area high school's did this, my husband's HS actually had a kicker pulled off the girls' soccer team!)

With this thread in mind I paid attention to the commercial breaks after a TD not last weekend but the weekend before, divisional round. Of the 4-5 TD's I watched, none of them went to a commercial between the TD and the XP.

Good swimming is relaxed swimming. Relaxed swimming depends on practicing the best techniques and the best body position.
