Am I the only one who wants to pull their hair out when they read stuff like this?

Nope.

Why even ask for opinions if you're just going to ignore the collective recommendation?  And it's not like the vote was even CLOSE on what you should do.

chirunner134 - 2008-09-08 10:57 PM add me to the IMMoo list. I decided to try to sign up figuring I would not get in online and I got in online.

Well, I say all the best, but ultimately you will get your answer by about mid summer methinks.  Enjoy!

Actually, because curiosity has gotten the better of me;

What did your parents say when you told them you signed up, Todd?

yeah I am sorry about that. I did not mean to sign up. I did not go to madison and I assumed it was going to sell out in person. I was off because I was planning on going to madison but I did not go because I did not plan on signing up. I decided to see if it was sold out and lone and behold I got in. Next thing you know I was putting in my CC info and bam.

Am I the only one who wants to pull their hair out when they read stuff like this?

Nope.

Sorry Chi, but I think I have been able to summarize your posts into the following:

Subject: "I want to do this race...I haven't trained for it, should I do it?"

Message: "OK, I'm doing the race!"

Seriously Chi, that is pretty much everything you post on this site. No offense, but it needs to be said. If you are going to do what you want to do, don't ask for our input. It wastes our time.

You can do what you want without anyone giving any input... ya know? That's what I do.

I have not told them yet but they wonder why I am packing my stuff into boxes.

I told them I am moving because I am going to go and live on my bike. I think they suspect something is up but I think they are more worried I am going to move in with the cute redheaded girl who is going threw a messy divoice.

Not to throw stones here folks, but why not refocus all the negative energy into some encouragement/motivation.  Sure, Todd asked for advice, got quite a bit of sound input, and ignored it.  However, I suspect every one of us has done that at some point or another in our lives.

Todd, you have spent the money, made the commitment, and publicly admitted your weakness on the bike.  It is time to start riding...a lot.  Take it from another BTer who registered for an IM this year and then bailed because he didn't properly train for it...I REGRET that decision every day.  Don't make the same mistake.

Go out there, train your rear end off (with a good plan so as to avoid injury) and we'll see you at the starting line next year at IMMOO.

Good luck, man.

I need something to drive me forward. It might be too much too soon. I know I am smarter and wiser than I was this year. I do thank you all for your advice and I probably wished I took it but its hard to say no to your dreams. Next year I will need someone tie me up on registration day. .

Well, at least you signed up for that easy bike course.  Good luck man.

It seems it almost never fails that when someone asks for advice like this, they already have their decision generally made before they ask for and receive the advice.  What they seem to be hoping for is validation for the decision that has already been made.  When they don't receive that validation or strong enough arguments to change their mind, they rebut the advice and generally do what they originally intended.  At least, that is what I have noticed in the last few months or so in the Iron Distance forum!

The dilemma with waiting to sign up for an IMNA branded race is that it has to be done 1 year in advance or you end up doing a non M-dot race or waiting yet another year or so.  It is a gamble financially as much as physically.  None of us knows in a year what is going to happen.  Some people are willing to risk losing the entry fee (or a good portion of it) to secure their space.  I guess you are one of those, Todd.

Anyhow, good luck!

Andi

Took a while to figure out why this thread ressurected......so, you signed up for another IM right?  IMWI?

Good for you!  I hate to see you DNS again but $560 is not really that much money to pay for a chance to dream and it does buy a modicum of motivation.  Sometimes bigger-than-life goals have the power to spark the motivation we need.

Keep in mind that only about 2/3rds of the people who sign up for an IM will ever cross the finsih line.  Those are not real good odds.  Don't wait till next year to start training.  Get on your bike and get out on the road and start logging the miles now.

I was not on site. I took the day off to go and sign up on site but I did not go up because I did not think it was a good idea.

Yes I figured I would be dragged under the bus some. I know I deserve it.

I know you want to be an Ironman...so start today go ride your bike...ride lots and learn to love it.

Each pedal stroke will bring you closer to your dream. Doing lots of riding this fall will make it easier next spring.

Go ride...tell us tomorrow you did.

Stop talking and start training.  There is only one way to make the bike cut off.  Ride lots!

Your previous posts and actions have made many of us disbelievers in your dedication towards fulfilling your dream of becoming an Ironman.  Prove us all wrong!

Start using your logs again.  This board can't really help you if you don't use your logs.  It's time to use every tool in your toolbox and your BT logs are a very important tool!
