one I remember-  around mile 18 of 2009 IMFL run portion. a little girl probably 6-7 years old dressed as a "Fairy Princess" was holding a sign that said "Buckle Up Cupcake"..

Saw one at the Fargo Marathon that was next to a table with empty beer cans that said "you're too late - the Kenyans drank all the beer!"

This dates back to 2008, but I'm sure TJ will get a kick out of it!

Saw some good ones in Nashville last weekend.

"Free cigarettes"
"Run faster, the dog farted" (lady with a dog)
"Worst motivational sign ever"
"Motivational poster"
"It's not sweat it's liquid awesome"

And an actual motivating one
"Run the mile you're in"

I saw one a mile into the race that said: "<--- Only one mile to the finish!"

Start and finish were in the same location and the arrow was pointing the direction I just came from....

I've mentioned it before but one that I still find funny, though not motivating at all, was in San Francisco and it said "I'm an athletic supporter" and it had a jock strap stapled to it.  Cracked me up.

My wife made one for my HIM this weekend that said

"Pain is temporary but race results posted on the internet are forever"

she also made a less funny one and it said

"My husband is 1/2 Iron and 1/2 Beer" (I liked it - but doesn't work for a marathon too well)

Ha, thanks! These are all great -- getting a kick out of reading them. I like the "liquid awesome." I guess no sign recommendations specifically for ultra marathoners using the race just for a training run?

Find out the race numbers and do a sign for everyone that says:

xxxx and xxxx said this is a training run for their real race!!!!

ETA: if you put their names under the numbers that would be even nicer for them......

Ha! Hilarious. It's all very good-natured, but we tease each other mercilessly about our respective preferred race distances. I might consider doing this. lol.

You could do the whole "Oh you ran a marathon? How cute" thing.
I've seen Ironman shirts like that but it would work for an Ultra, too.

"This distance is so nice, you have to do it twice" (assuming a 52.4 ultra distance)
