Close second: Finishing surviving the swim and knowing I get to ride my bike now, and there are plenty of people ahead to chase. |

Standing in the water or on the beach with 100s of other people you'll be racing against... everyone's eyes firmly set on the lake in front of them and their fingers on their watch just waiting to hit "START"... some electric energy in that magical few moments before the race starts. If only we could bottle that... As for actual racing... swimming is where it's at for me. The finish line also holds a special place in my heart. |

| , Texas | Subject: RE: FUN THREAD!! Favorite part about race day... I don't know if it's my favorite part, but I love pulling into the race site in the pitch dark and joining the bike parade to the body marking. It gets me all jazzed up and keeps me there until I hit the chute. |

I think my favorite part this year has been finishing a recent race, and my younger brother asking me how I beat him, again. In general I love the pre-race interaction with other racers. Talking about goals, recent training issues, joking around, and knowing that we are all about to challenge ourselfs phsically. It just makes me happy. |

I love it when I am still on the road on the way to the race site, and I start to see bikes on cars going in the same direction. I immediately feel a bond with them. I also love cheering people on during the run and getting those cheers back. Triathletes in general seem to be friendlier and more encouraging than the people that race just running races (during the race, I mean...I'm sure pure runners are very nice people  . |

We always get to races super-early, so I have lots of time to get set up and then hang out. I really like the pre-race chatting with friends and strangers. I also like cheering on others during the run. I'm super-slow, so I have lots of time to cheer while I'm supposed to be running. |

Getting done with my setup early and being able to wander around, chill, and people/gear watch until it's time to (ugh) get into my wetsuit. The chillin' phase is payoff for generally being among the first through the parking lot gate at oh-dark-whatever. |
