rexcoltrain - 2010-06-25 8:18 PM I'm in.  I left The Woodlands 3 years and 60 pounds ago, so it will be nice to return an Ironman.

Very cool!

I'm in...no way I'd miss it.

Side note: Shouldn't this thread be under "IronDistance Race Groups"?  Just curious...went there first...

Well, once someone adds the race to the database so you can all put it on your logs as a planned race, under that race will be a "start discussion" link or something like that.  The first person to click that link starts the actual official thread and it will be under Iron Distance Race Groups.  So, you are correct.  No one has started it yet though.

Done.

Another 'Official' Thread.  How many Official threads do we have for IMTX.  Maybe someone (not me) should collate them into one huge thread.

Any word on where the host hotel is going to be? The website isn't updated yet.

I'm on the fence.  Getting ready for Lousville, which is my 1st, and told the wife that she could do one next year.  (With 4 kids, we can't both train for IM's at the same time.)  However, if she's not interested in this one, I may be able to convince her to let me do it, given that it's so close to home.

If not, I'll definitely be there as a volunteer.

the woodlands resort and conference center is the host. they'll book you a room if you call - website shows sold out bc it's too far in advance (last time i looked, so it may have changed by now...that was last thursday) 281-367-1100 OR 800-433-2624.

there are a bunch of bt'ers staying here:

I'm in, as well. It will also be my first IM. Not sure what I am thinking...but I am one of those "weirdos" who does well running in humidity. That includes marathons...we'll see. I trained in Houston for 5 years so I think I have my head 'something' around what 90' degrees will feel like in May.

If you click the "family fun weekend" or another package deal you can book at the woodlands conference center.   I went with the residence inn as well, better deal for the price.

Thanks!

We booked at the Courtyard Houston The Woodlands (1020 Lake Front Circle, The Woodlands, Texas 77380 - Phone: 1-281-292-3262) for $104.95 a night (double queens).  King rooms were only $99.95.  It's right there where it's all happening.

The Woodlands Waterway Marriott is the host hotel and not The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center.  The Waterway Marriott actually sold out before registration opened.

The Residence Inn Market St. sold out within a couple of days.  The other Residence Inn nearby also sold out.  I believe most (if not all) the hotels within "walking" distance of the transition area and start/finish are booked by now.

According to RD Keith Jordan there are less than 50 slots left for Ironman Texas at this point.  He expects it to sell out in the next couple of days.

If you're not in yet but want to be...better go get it NOW.

Anyone know when specific course information is coming out. I have seen a narrative of the possible bike course but no elevation data.

of course this is all speculation, but so far this is as close as it'll get regarding the bike course

I got this off of ST. Either way, if this course map is not 100%, I can say that this will give you a general idea of what to look for in May.

Looks like only about 1,500 feet of climbing. I guess you can never count out the wind though. Whats the scenery like around there?

The ride will be mostly country riding with lots of small, soft rollers and the roads will be lined with tall pine trees...enjoyable riding. The run will be pancake flat through the Woodlands and the trees will hopefully provide a bit of shade for the afternoon marathon.
