This might be the first year in a long time that I might...just might have plans for V-Day that don't include the gym or going out to dinner with guy friends.  I guess I'll know after my date this weekend if I'm still interested this guy or not   Usually I can tell by the 2nd or 3rd date-  so far so good!  No red flags at that moment to scare me away!

I wasn't trying to rain on anyones parade, just calling it like I see it. If its an excuse to get all dolled up and put out spend quality time with the SO then great, but why not tell me how much you love me on any other day? Or take me to dinner. Or buy me a bike for my birthday.

I've been single and attached for Vday. Doesn't matter or bother me either way.

Sorry to hear about your dad.

oneword - 2006-02-07 5:07 PM

For me, its always a crappy day - not trying to rain on anyone else's parade, but I agree w/TriComet - its an artificial holiday that happens to be my dad's birthday as well... and all I've heard for the last 30 years is about his heart problems

well that's a tough one as my fiance is not in the same state as me at the moment.

So I have one of two options:

1: send her a bouquet of roses with one being silk.  Write on the card:  "My love for you will last until the last one wilts away."

2: send her a boqet of the flowers we are planning to use as out wedding bouquet

and I spell Boquet like Welshy

i loathe being told when to be romantic. I'll do flowers, chokky, baths and candles etc when I feel like it. So K and I always get antsy around this time of year bc we each try and out un-valentine's each other. One year I got flowers delivered to wrok every day for the week BEFORE 2/14. One year I made a fabulous dinner bought a great bottle of wine etc on Oct 14, and make black and orange hearts for cards...

that's awesome.  I don't mind it, altho I think It's funny that St. Valentine was brutally murdered, yet the day celebrating his death is the day of love??  How's that work?

The one thing I can't stand is "sweetest day".  That was most definatly made up by the greeting card industry for the sole purpose of selling greeting cards.  They didn't even attempt to tack it onto some dead guy's birthday or anything.

Those are both really really sweet ideas. How far away is your wedding? You could do the bouquet with the silk rose for Valentine's Day and send her a bouquet of wedding-type flowers a year or six months before your wedding. She's lucky to have you.

If I cna convince my mother-in-law to babysit on a weekday (sdhe's a teacher) then I'm getting my husband tickets to Bela Fleck. I'm not expecting much - we don't usually go crazy on these holidays. I'd rather do something fun for the kids - I like the pink dinner idea!!

Back on topic - so this year not only is V-day competing with that, but with my wife being 7+ mos. preggers she's not really in the mood for the big romantic event.  I think some ice cream and quiet time for her is about the best thing I could give her.

Give her a massage - it's free and she'll love it!! But don't skip the ice cream, she'll love that too. Maybe she can eat it while you massage her.

Aw crap, Valentine's day!  That means that I have to spring for some useless flowers and a gift.  My wife doesn't like chocolates so I will have to buy something else.  Then, it's her birthday on the 17th so I have to spring for another gift and an expensive restaurant!  When will the madness end ...

When I was in college, my mom would send me 20 bucks and a some chocolate on Valentines Day. It's cool when parents do stuff for kids.

I kinda wish she'd still send me the 20 bucks, but, as she says, growing up's a bitch.

Best idea I ever had for V-Day was to drive my GF at the time to a day spa and drop her off for about 4 hours of massages and facials and that stuff they do to your feet..... I went to a sports bar and shot pool with the guys for a few hours. When I picked her up I was golden.

Years later she said I ruined her for other men. I was feeling pretty good for a few minutes until I realized she was talking about Valentine's Day....
