I am seriously considering this one.  I was thinking about IM AZ next fall.  But... IM Cozumel would be more fun because I could make it into a vacation.  It would be so nice to finish the IM and get to lay on the beach sipping drinks and getting rid of my horendous tri tan lines and being on vacation.  Gotta talk the fiance into it- I don't think he'd object    My only concern would be the weather- but then again, IM FL or AZ could be hot and windy as well. I guess it's good that I live in GA and would be training in the humidity for the most part.

The website states, "Water temperature for the month of September in Cozumel is likely to be around 26°C, therefore wetsuits will not be permitted."

I wonder why they make note of September water temp.??? I dive Cozumel and water temps. are typically in the low 80's during the summer months and fall into the mid 70's during the winter.

Is there another place on the site that states that wetsuits will not be permitted? I am interested in this race either way, but it seems very possible that the temp could be 78-82 F ... making it wetsuit legal for age-groupers.

With that said, I like the idea of being able to come out of the water without that dreaded wetsuit kiss. Even with bodyglide, the salt water and neoprene tore me up.

Check out the deals on VRBO.com- there are some great places for a good price, so renting a condo isn't a concern of mine.  I'm just wondering how hard it would be to get around the island if I wasn't staying close to the TA and IM villa.  I wouldn't think it would be hard to get a cab??

It's easy to get around on the island. Cabs are everywhere. $5-$10 gets you most anywhere.

some from ST already resgistered... I've done Cancun 70.3 registering online from the US with no prob which are the same race organizers. They will open Registration on active.com on 08-19-08 I think as well...

Re: water temps -Remember, we are talking surface temps, not at depth temps for the divers out there.  yeah, may go into mid or hi 70s, but surface temps will be higher.

Personally, I couldn't imagine swimming 2.4 in even 78 degree water in that heat and humidity.  I'd be a wreck getting on the bike.

There is never a problem getting around on Coz.  Probably one cab for every 2 people on the island.  I am really going to have to give this a lot of thought before I have to register for IMMOO '09.  I love the island and I think this would be a great race with all the potential BT'ers.  There are a lot of charters flying to Coz from Minneapolis St. Paul during the winter.

Great idea for sure...but like most everything would depend on price.

It would make doing the race less of a hassle.

No doubt, price will be the key.....kinda like to BT housing rentals....the more folks, the less it costs.....right now I am still trying to see what companies would make the most sense location-wise and flight-wise....

Lots of work to be done but I will try to get some preliminary info out in the next couple of weeks....please stand by ;-)

Unfortunately I get NO vacation days during the school year.  Meaning I would be on the first plane out of Coz the next day.  Only reason I'm seeing it as a possibility is because we will have Th and F off for Thanksgiving.  That really sounds like a dream vacation though.  IM one day followed by Sol beer, scuba and relaxation for a week or so.

Sounds like a great venue! With my luck if I signed up I would qualify for Kona at IMLP or Eagleman. If I don't sign up I won't qualify. Hmmmmmm. Decisions, decisions.
