So any hatch looks like an SUV to you? i drive a celica (that has a hatchback, actually!) and like tiny low to the ground things. wagons are just as bad as SUVs, i think. Huh? This car is an SUV? I think Big Appa's right. That word doesn't seem to mean what you think it does. Just out of curiousity, what do you mean that "wagons are just as bas as SUV's"? Is it the dorkiness, perception that SUV's are ruining the planet, driving experience, handling, or something else?
i don't like the look of them. and a crossover/XUV is just an SUV with a different name. it's not a little car. i buy cars based on LOOKS. i'm shallow! Edited by mehaner 2013-04-29 10:10 AM |

So any hatch looks like an SUV to you? i drive a celica (that has a hatchback, actually!) and like tiny low to the ground things. wagons are just as bad as SUVs, i think. Sorry hatch as in the full door bach hatch, not like a coup hatch. So you do not want any car with a back door hatch? The Mini has one but it does fill most of the things you are looking for. the priority is cute-ness - if it has a hatch and is cute, i'm ok. the mini, however, is not really cute... The cute-ness is all depending upon the person. I would prefer the look of the mini over most BMW's and that is really where you seem to be leaning. I agree that a wagon doesn't fit what you are asking for, but I am also not a new car fan, so I won't be much help there. The few people that I know that own Volvo's say they will never own another because of the super high costs of repair and it seems to be very often. Why not a 2013 Celica if you like the one you have?
i think they stopped making celicas in 2004 i am probably going to buy slightly used, but i DO work for a tier 1 automotive supplier so if my discount makes brand new attractive i can go that way too I guess the reviews for the 2013 Toyota Celica GT were what I had seen and they must not be available here, or the project never came to be. http://newcarenginereview.com/toyota-celica-2013-review.html http://www.carmiko.com/2013-toyota-celica
OH MY GOD THEY BROUGHT THE CELICA BACK? GTFO. (those are all right-side-drive concept cars Edited by mehaner 2013-04-29 10:13 AM |

Mini convertible with a hitch and bike carrier! Actually got two bikes on the carrier and a weeks worth of camping stuff inside the car. If I put the back seat down and take the wheels off I can actually get a bike inside the car. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Infiniti is a great car. Fast like nothing else and luxurious. I wouldn't say it's bike friendly though. I had to take both wheels off to get the bike in. Look at a Maxima. Bigger, sporty, stylish. Better with your bike requirement. If you want; I have a 2007 G35x all wheel drive in good condition I can sell you. Such a deal! |

now THAT'S a cute car! I've had a man crush on them for quite some time. They are quite sporty too. I have no comment on the bike storage capabilities though. I imagine not very good. |

My wife is currently looking at a Mercedes SLK320. Definitely a "cute" car. Bike storage would have to be done with a bumper mounted rack or hitch of some sort. But the hard top convertible part is pretty nice. We have driven a few, nice and quiet with the hard top up and convertible fun with it down. |

exactly the same car. I was ACTUALLy going to suggest the Scion FR-S. (Or it's Subaru twin BRZ). I personally love my Jetta wagon and I loved my Scion xB...but it sounds like that is not a look you appreciate. To each his/her own! I've heard a lot of good things about the FR-S. I have owned 2 Scions and have loved both of them. I have no idea about fitting a bike into an FR-S. Although because it's a hatchback, I'm sure the seats go down and you could at least get a bike in without the wheels. Just looked at the basic specs, 200 hp 2.0L engine. That will probably give you plenty of pep. (Not like a race car, but for a small car...) And it looks like highway mpg is listed as 30+ (Granted this is EPA estimations...) I think you should get an FR-S because I want one...than I can live vicariously! ETA: Picture...in color: "Ultramarine" Swim anyone?!?! Almost forgot. A used Nissan 350z would fit your budget, would look awesome, would be loads of fun to drive etc. The bike would have to go on a rack, but it fits everything else and is a really fun car and close to a Celica IMO. |

That's why I suggested it in the first place. I believe it's about the smallest car you can buy that you can put 2 bikes in upright (with 1 wheel removed). I drive a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, so to me, they seem tiny, though, not nearly as tiny as my wife's Fiat 500. If you want cute and fun to drive with a lot of extras, and don't mind adding a bike rack to the back, that may be an option too.

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The 328i is a great car. My wife had one a few cars ago and absolutely loved it. She still misses it at times now. Not sure how well the bike fits in, but I would not let that be my deal breaker. |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() I'm leaning towards the crossover category. I like the Honda Crosstour/Acura ZDX, the Infinity EX or FX, etc. If I was back in Colorado where weather was an issue and I DIDN'T want an suv. I would go with a Subaru Outback. The Acura and the Infinity is nice enough to valet and do long road trips, but also very functional for outdoor activities. Personally? I'm currently a HUGE fan of Honda. My wife's Civic and my Acura TL are just SO reliable (knock on wood). I'm sold on Honda(Acura) right now and probably will go with them on the next one. If they weren't so darned ugly, I would consider the Ridgeline. That being said, the Crosstour is the Honda version of the ZDX and may be our next purchase. |
