Oh, yeah?  Elaborate?

Nothing you have not heard from me or other before but the "list of accomplishments" could just as easily as been seen as an indictment of his failure. (Not trying to debate these, just throwing out random thoughts..)

Stimulus: didn't create the jobs it should have

Gay Marriage: he was against it before he was for it.  I suppose he's now for it but he did flip-flop.

Got out of Iraq: on Bush's timetable

Began draw down in Afghanistan: only after increasing the # of troops there.  There are 3x as many deaths in 4 years under Obama than 8 years under Bush.

Saved GM: again, this can be considered a negative to many

Recapitalized banks: Yes.  he gave them tons of (our) cash.  Which they are now sitting on.  Not loaning out that money.

Obamacare: again you can see how that one cuts both ways.

Gitmo: Signed a ED on day one to shut it down.  It's still open.

...and on and on and on...

When presented in short little bites like this it sure sounds good.  And had I known nothing about the details I might be persuaded to think they sounded good too.  But dig deeper and well, you get what you get...

Good.

See my edit above... it's not a compliment.

Your posts during the election made that abundantly clear.  Now though, with some honest reflection, perhaps you will actually understand why President Obama was favored by a majority of Americans. You may also reflect on how you personally could not conceive of that outcome on Novermber 6 when you "called" the election for Mr. Romney.

I took a theory and presented it and when it proved to be wrong I admitted I was wrong.

I am beginning to understand why he was favored.  Unfortunately, it makes me more worried for this country than I was before the election.

I see some want to make this thread a match.......that's not what it was intended for.

I appreciate the honest answers given. I do find it interesting that social issues are the big key, when that should never be the business of the presidency. There are far more critical issues at stake for our country's well being (imho)

While I don't agree with your reasonings and I could poke holes in them all day long, I thank you for answering the question that nobody seemed to want to answer during the election process.

It gives good insight into the mentality of the general populace today.

Cheers!

I can only speak for my case. Social issues were definitely one of the main reason I voted Obama. However, despite siding with Republicans on the idea of small government and fiscal prudence, I wasn't sure that a Romney presidency would have done that much difference in terms of debt management. The deficit has two parts: spending and revenue. And, frankly, the last 3-4 republican presidents have done nothing to set them apart from Obama (maybe on how money is spend, but not on spending it, and definitely not on national debt relief). Who's to blame? depends on your particular way of thinking, but a good objective article I read is:

http://www.businessinsider.com/whos-responsible-for-budget-deficit-2012-8

The truth is that on equal footing (i.e. same financial backing), I think libertarian principles would have had significant more impact on this election. A "freedom" type social agenda coupled with fiscal conservative ideals appeal to many Americans (myself included). And the article is right in one big respect. Whoever party you choose to blame, part of the blame has to be on us (do not skip the last few paragraphs of the article).

I totally agree that nobody has been good with fiscal policy. However, in referance to the above, I'll bet on somebody who has successfully built many businesses and brought others back from the brink of collapse (like our country is right now), over someone who's never met a single payroll or received a single paycheck outside of public service. The president couldn't run a lemonade stand with his background. So the logic simply doesn't add up in my opinion.

I voted on social issues as well. Gay rights, as well as women's rights. And while it wasn't Romney himself who made anti-female statements, prominent Republicans did. Seriously, how did Akin get 36 percent of the female vote in Missouri???

As for the economy:
Romney showed me nothing in the form of a financial plan that would've brought us out of recession any quicker. And frankly, I feel we ARE moving in the right direction, slowly.

TriR, that your point about giving stimulus money to the banks, and their hoarding it, is proof that in this economic climate, companies will not expand. If you give tax breaks to the wealthy and the companies, what proof is there that they won't do the same thing the banks did and sit on it? What proof is there that they'll actually expand?

This goes to my point that a supply-side economy is great in theory, and yes historically you can point to a time when it worked and it worked well, but that you need demand to AT LEAST equal supply. China is slowing, Europe is shrinking. Who is going to buy all this great stuff we produce when companies have more money? Nobody, which means we'll start stockpiling goods and have a lot of supply with little demand. Businessowners are smart, they know that if they increase the supply of widgets while demand remains stagnant or declines, the price of widgets go down. Along with profitability.
