Sipping Whiskey (Page 2)

Corn liquor is what I was asking about, best for listening to hounds striking on the ridge.

I'm fond of Black Bushmills for higher-placed Irish whisky, and for Glenmorangie 12 or 18 for the single-malt. Granted, I'm a fair bit of the noobsauce when it comes to Scotch.

I like Jack Daniels Single Barrel as well, though I think it tastes like a mix of 2/3 Crown Royal and 1/3 regular Jack Daniels. Since it costs over twice as much as either, I guess you could have more to sip if you just mixed the other two.

For single malts, Macallan is my favorite, the older the better. Being over $100 and up for a bottle for the 18 year and above, it is a bit spendy.

My second favorite is Highland Park 12 Year, still not cheap, but less painful on the wallet.

Jefferson's Reserve (small batch).  I sip it "neat"  by the fire listening to the coyote.

My hubby turned 30 and got about 15 bottles of whiskey. We are very slowly working our way through them! My favourites are Glenlivet and Glenmorangie. The older the better

I don't like whiskeys that have that smokey peaty taste. They taste like the smoked pigs ears I give to my dog smell. Yuck! Maybe its just my girly palate, my hubby likes the peaty ones.

Both excellent choices. I also am quite fond of Chivas Regal, Dimple, or LAPHROAIG (pronounced 'La-froyg')

They're the ones I don't like, too smokey!!!

Jameson hands down...

I was always a fan but also drank Jack and Walker...

Went to the factory in Dublin and took the sipping tour.  Got to tastse them all back to back to back.  There was no comparison.  Jameson was far superior.

Now I just mix Jack with Seven Up.  For straight up sipping Jameson is my choice.

Glenmorangie is magnificent. It has been the best selling whiskey in Scotland for a few years running.

You've co-opted 2goggs. Or vice versa.

I'll go with, on the scotch side, Glenmorangie (everyday), Laphroig (31 year old). And next comes the Lagavulin (16 year old).  You gotta check the years, though, to make sure they're what you want. Bowmore makes a nice old scotch (rumor has), but I've never had it...only seen the carnage. 

On the Irish side, Jameson is top-shelf...it's just a question of how expensive a bottle you want to go with.  Short of the most expensive, one of the bargain plays I've had is Bushmills 10-year single malt (again, you can get an older bottle that will cost you more, and be - slightly - better). Nice bottle of Irish.  

I'd say Bulleit or Woodford Reserve would do you fine.  Good sipping bourbons.
