terpjd - 2009-06-24 3:59 PM I think I'd like to join in in order to get some open water experience (have my first tri in mid August), but I'm not a terribly strong swimmer.  My particular bugaboo is efficient breathing (still suck at bilateral breathing).  Would I be a drain on the group?

If not, I'd also be up for a ride afterwards.

We have ALL levels out there. Don't stress it at all. You'll only be a drain if you don't like to have fun!!

At least you're brave enough to try bilateral breathing. I can't figure it out.

Thanks for the encouragement!  I will definitely try to make it.

What is the thinking on wetsuits?  The water temp at Thomas Point is in the mid 70s, which seems, to me, a bit warm for wetsuits, but I'm really out of my element here.

I need all the help I can get from that damn wetsuit.

Looks like probably 72-73 in the morning.... I raced in 73 degrees in my wetsuit on Sunday and it was quite comfortable FWIW.

Hi,

OK if I join you? Is the water still wetsuit temperature?

vball03umd, I'd be interested in a 4 mile run with you afterward.

How far will you guys be biking afterwards? I might be in for the swim and ride, depending on whether or not I can coerce someone into swimming with me at Gunpowder that morning. If I can't, I'll make the 50 mile trek up to meet with you guys! Sounds like fun.

The closets place I could quickly find to sandy point was this place

Water temp looks to be around 74-76ish.  Might be a little warm but we shall see.

I'm in for the swim with wetsuit. not sure if I want to bike or run after.

I know that if I bike, I'm going to turn around when the bikers get to ritchie highway. I hate that road in my car.

I know you guys are all into your fitness and what not, but there's a good chance I could take up to 6 of you waterskiing (sorry my wakeboard is broken) after your swim.  I had plans to go with friends and they just cancelled.  We would launch at sandy point SP and shoot up the Magothy River to find a place out of the wind.

This is not an official offer but more to guage interest.

I plan to check the traffic before I leave. If it's bad, I'm going to take College Parkway.

Looks like chances are pretty good I'll make it, probably with a guest as well. Still at 0800?

I won't be there. Worried about beach traffic, and I need to ride my bike since I have not ridden in a week. I'll keep looking here for the next OWS.

Did you need wetsuits?  First day its super warm water temps, I'll try to be out there.  I don't own a wetsuit yet, but I'm scared of the nettles.  Frown

We all used wetsuits but I don't think we needed them.

No jellies today.

It was great to meet everyone and see so many smiling faces so early this AM We had a great turnout and the swim was really good race practice!

I say lets do it again same time next week.  There may not be as many people since it's a holiday weekend but I'm definitely in (and maybe for a run or ride too).  We can start a new thread for next weeks swim... I'll leave that up to Mr. Popular/Posting Fanatic CJ

Also great meeting everyone out there so bright and early!  I'll try starting something next week.  Not sure if I'll be able to make it.  Might be out of town next weekend.  We shall see.
