Sure...if any female tops my total for the month up to and including May 31, 2005.

If female puts in more yardage in the pool than me I'll gladly post a full-length Speedo shot...jammers that is.

Just so we're clear... this is a commitment on your part, right?

I was going to challenge myself to 30km, but reading this makes me want to commit to more. I'll stick with the 30km, but my additional goal will be just to do more than you. Jen

How 'bout this? Boys vs Girls. Whoever has the greater percentage of participants meet their goal wins. Losing team has to post a recent full body swimsuit pic of themselves. I'm in for 16k.

Ixnay. I don't want to meet my goal AND pay the loser's price if the Girls Team has a lower % of meeting their goals. Float another idea.

Well there's always the satisfaction of knowing you've set a goal and met it with the encouragement and support of your peers while simultaneously encouraging and supporting them in their pursuits.

Personally, I'd prefer the booty shot.

Want to hash out the details in BT chat? Might be easier/quicker.

I'm in. This is a big month for me, so I should be doing 22K. I like boys vs girls, too, but agree with Renee on prize/punishment question ....

Ok, here's what Marmadaddy/Mike and I came up with in chat. Weigh in with your Aye's/Nay's.

Boys V Girls. The team with the highest AGGREGRATE percentage of yardage goal met wins. This means that if I meet 75% of my goal but Carrie meets 125% of her goal, team goal = 100%. In this manner, teammates can pickup the slack for other teammates if someone isn't meeting their goal (and can have a bit more control over whether they win/lose, other than their singular performance).

Also, the highest and lowest yardage is thrown out, for validity.

Thoughts?

Masters class usually averages 2,300 yards. (4 sessions during May equals 9,200). I will match that amount during solo training.

My goal is 18,400 Yards for May

Thanks Joel for setting this up!!

I guess that sounds fair.  So we average the % of individual goals for the boys and girls.  I can see tossing the highest (to keep someone from intentionally setting their goal low and blowing it out of the water), but the lowestjust gives someone an out if they want to bail and not let the "team" down.

Well, yes, exactly! If it's going to be a TEAM competition, then you don't want to punish  INDIVIDUALS who met their goals but have to suffer because someone drops out - right? Throwing out the highest and lowest eliminates extreme skewing. They will still suffer the ignominy of it when you post the individual results. For the purpose of seeing you in your jammers for a month, this high-end skew toss-out does not apply. That's a straight, raw numbers challenge/bet/goal.

Ok, so if the Girls beat the Boys, ALL the Boys post their speedo pic/avatar for the month, and vice versa. Is that the bet?

I might be getting a little overzealous here, but I'm going to commit to 50,000 yards. I'll be traveling for my job several times throughout the month, so it may be difficult, but it'll force me to make it up over the weekends.

I'll also commit to using a picture of myself in a speedo (no jammers for me) as my avatar for the month of June if I miss. Count me in for any team competitions as well.

Joel, you've got your work cut out for you, as it looks like there are at least two girls who are going to take you up on your challenge.

Slight thread hijack: We (my sisters and I) used to swim with the Maurer kids when we were on the Town 'n Country Swim Team many years ago. Everytime I see your name it reminds me of mischievous Billy Maurer.

OK - count me in, you hound dogs got me all jacked up now I gotta do it - I'm doing Memphis May 22, but I still should be able to get 20k yards - this will be just great, I have a feeling the outcome, not matter the result of which team wins, will not be what we expect, other that making d*** sure we all get some yardage in the water - - there could be some very interesting suprises and unintended consequences - dooo-weeee-jeeeezuuuss!!! here we go - I did 2200 yards today at 8am - the tally begins!

Averaged like this: 101% + 89% + 125% + 62% = avg 94.25%

I wonder if we should weight it in some way to factor in average yardage too... hmmmm.
