Culture is more of the traditions and "ways of doing things", which is also a part of judaism,

Like kvetching?

That and Jewish guilt.  Which is like Catholic guilt, except Catholic guilt is for what you THOUGHT about doing, whereas Jewish guilt is for what you DIDN'T do.

See I always heard our holidays are: "They tried to kill us, G-d saved us,  let's eat"

Since I am not going up to Vermont, the boys and I will do the traditional jewish xmas evening chinese food and a movie ritual.

They leave xmas day with their Dad so I do not yet know what the day will hold - if I can get healthy for sure some training.....maybe a LONG trainer ride AND a movie!

Here in the north suburbs of Chicago, if you don't get to your favorite Chinese food establishment early, you'll be waiting quite a while for a table, or just have to settle for take out.

Oy vey...speaking of that, I really need to call my mother...she is very worried about me...

Ok - for the competition, anything you would have entered into your BT log as a workout or as sports will count.   I'll let you assign your own Junits value for things I have not mentioned, but the baseline is 1 hour med/hard intensity s/b/r or serious lift = 1 Junit.  Use that guide to assign your own Junit value to your activities.

Remember a wicked awesome prize I will be searching for tonight (but will remain a surprise) is up for grabs to the winner.  Whoever has posted the most Junits as of 12 AM Dec 26th EST is the winner.

No, no, you don't need to call.  I'm sure you're very busy there, and have much more important things to do than to call you mother.  I'll just sit here in my apartment, and hope everything will be OK.  Did I tell you about my last visit to the doctor?  I'm sure it's nothing serious, but they said I should have some more tests....

How many Junits can I get if I am a Christian who is working on Christmas day??? ( I will be having Christmas dinner afterwards, so I suppose I'll have to subtract at least some portion of Junits I earn by being at work). Were I not workign I would be doing soem training, so I hope there is some kind of conversion factor (pun intended!!)

She beat me to the question...

I am Jewish and I'll be working that evening. Do I get points? How about if I end up in a wrestling match with five different drunk patients? Can I get at least half a junit for each of them?

Anybody celebrating "Festivus"?  Or "Christma-kuh"?

Working in a mostly-Jewish office (while I still wrestle with organized religion), I ought to start something like this for those quiet days when nobody's working.

On a side note, since Judaism has been referenced as both a religion and an ethnicity, if someone were to convert, would they not really be a Jew?  Maybe just a practicing Jew?  (Please don't let this question hi-jack the thread, just a simple question).

Happy Holidays!

no.  The whole reason that rabbis turn you away 3 times is to make sure you really want to do it.  Once someone converts they are not supposed to be referred to as a convert.  It is considered that the reason they sought conversion is that their soul is jewish just born to a non jewish family.  this is why it is not considered acceptable to convert for someone else (ie a spouse....) it has to be something you want to do.

Nonjews only have to follow the 7 noahide laws, jews have 613 commandments.  That is considered too onerous to put on someone unless they are really jewish....

I LOVE THIS. I might have to participate, even though I'm technically a filthy shikse, cleverly disguised as a Jew*.

* Dad's Jewish. Mom's goy. Dad made little effort to raise me in the tradition. Somehow I was the only Jewish kid in school anyway. Probably because I have an extremely stereotypically Jewish name.

My Dentist wished me a merry christmas today. Then I realized he was Jewish that he was very considerate in doign so and I wished him a happy late hannukah.

Funny that I simply "know" he is Jewish (I've known him for over 30 years), but I couldnt' tell you if my friends were lutheran or methodist or protestant...

I will ride the trainer for 1.5hrs for 1.5 Junits  (unless i get sucked in to "Its a Wonderful Life" and ride for the duration...) easily a pound of sushi, now I"m up to 3 Junits
Avatar in 3D for .5,
and the kicker-
I made myself a bike shirt that says "Speschulized" and am ordering it on xmas
thats got to get me to at least 5 Junits!

my other xmas option was to go to my friends house and listen to her mom sing "Happy Birthday Baby Jesus"!  yikes!

We are not Jewish but many of our friends are. We have always been jealous of the Chinese food they all have on Christmas day. So we got together as a family and decided that this year we too are having Chinese instead of more traditional Christmas fare. It makes me hungry just thinking about it. (need to refuel right now from a workout)
