Hey Magic Rat,

I'm between racine and kenosha... currently working a marathon training plan, with trainer rides and swimming mixed in.  may1 ends the marathon phase and get ne 12 weeks for the HIM.  Sunday will be brick day.  Probably starting out by Lake Andrea in Pleasant Prarie, site of the Pleasant Prarie Tri's if your familiar.

I ride the Trek and Danskin loops together about 25 miles.

I would consider myself better than the avg. agegroup (sprint) triathlete, but with this being an official ironman event.  Will I get completely blown away? I mean yes I figure so much but wanting to know before getting there and figuring it out first hand.

My whole goal is to be able to compete the best that I can.  No time goal or finish goal etc.

This is my first HIM. I am super excited to try. I was at Spirit of Racine last year as a spectator and looking forward to being a participant this year.
In the market for a wetsuit. Anyone have any suggestions? The swim is my weakest link.

I am thinking the same thing!!! Training does keep me out of trouble! I try not to stress about the race too much. My focus is Ironman MOO! next year this is just a stepping stone. ( A big one!!)

I am going to be doing a lot of bike work. just let me know if you want to do any group rides!

I found that the entry level suits are better for beginners. You can check out MOX or Exterra wetsuits. I bought a one online from the "wetsuit man" on Ebay and a sleeveless from Exterra.

My first wetsuit was a Zoot from MOX. Be prepared for some tightness!!

For people coming from Chicago (or northern burbs), any thoughts about driving up early the morning of the race vs. getting a hotel in the area?

I have not read the details yet, by typicaly in manyIronman events you have to check in your bike the day before. If that is the case I would think coming the day before is best... if not  I enjoy drivin gin the morning to wake up, but  if it is going to stress youout then I would come up the afternon before..

Even before Racine was an official IM 70.3, the rule was indeed that...ALL bikes MUST be checked in the night before...

Sorry kids!!

RICE? Ice for sure. NSAIDs perhaps?

Is this for running only?

Sounds good I have only been at one ironman event where you didn't have to check in the day before-

At the Steelhead 1/2 last year, someone's tire popped after they had checked in their bike.  Not a good omen the morning of.  I would freak!

Jane,
Don't sweat it, we will keep the tire pressure low overnight and pump up the tires in the morning.

I am in for this year.  I'll be using this race as more of a status check for my A race (Rev3 full IM at Cedar Point).  I was wondering if anyone is aware of what the packet pickup/bike check-in situation is for this race?  Being it is IM branded, I assume the mandatory overnight hotel stay(s) are part of the deal?

Just signed up this morning.  Definitely excited and am just looking to finish in a decent condition.  Planning on doing the full IM next year in WI so this is one of the final baby steps.

Time to get busy...

I just booked my room.  I didn't come across any mandatory 2 night stay, however most of the less expensive hotels are booked unless you are willing to stay farther away from the venue.  I waited too long.

Yea....I'm a little further out at a Super 8 (about 4 mi. West of the race).  The Radisson right off the lake is booked (which would have been nice since it's close to the race).
