Master 1895 | Subject: RE: What are You Afraid Of? lisac957 - 2010-05-13 4:22 PM I have recurring nightmares about these three things, all of which I'm afraid of: - Plane crashes. Which is ironic becase I work for an airplane manufacturer and my Dad is a pilot. - Tornados. Which is ironic because I live in Kansas and see them on TV every day this time of year. - My Mother having a low-insulin Diabetic episode and it being too late to help her. I know this stems from watching her go "low" many, many times in my childhood (one while she was driving me and my sister, so scary) or trying to force feed her while we waited for an ambulance in the middle of the night. So scary. It's engrained in my mind and it still terrifies me to this day that someday, I might be in a position where I'm completely helpless. Same here. I have nightmares ALL of the time about either tornados or being in a plane crash. I've had them so often, it's to the point where I can almost control what's happening, because I know that I'm dreaming. Still scary as $hit though. |

I think this is my biggest real fear. Biggest, make me scream like a girl, fear: Bugs. Not all the time, or when I know they are there. For example, the other day I picked up a towel that had been on the basement floor for a few weeks (towels only get in the laundry if we have time or run out of clean ones) and one of those crazy million leg things fell on me. When I'm not expecting it and one ends up on me, that makes me scream. If I just saw one on the floor or somewhere else, no big deal. |

After watching the movie I tested the length of all of my doll's arms to check if they were long enough to grab be around the neck. Of course, I was about 5 years old. I wonder now why I was allowed to watch that movie. Sharyn5 - 2010-05-13 3:28 PM jdwright56 - 2010-05-13 4:26 PM Snakes. It's the only thing I'm afraid of. Clowns freak me out a bit and I don't like that Chucky doll, but snakes scare the crap out of me. My youngest daughter (15) is afraid of Penguins. Seriously, penguins - and not the ones from Pittsburgh, either. She'd rather watch Saw than Happy Feet. poltergeist, also...when the clown takes the kid underneath the bed...eek! scary...I hate clowns, now. |

Champion 10019 , Minnesota | Subject: RE: What are You Afraid Of? I'm terrified of my husband dying. He likes stupid adventure stuff and I freak when I don't hear from him. One time he went to ride the Baja 1000 on a dirt bike and I didn't hear from him for days. Turns out in addition to just poor reception, he crashed in the middle of the night in the desert, was nearly attacked by a swarm of bees, and had a few broken ribs. I think my fears are justified. Regular 525 | Subject: RE: What are You Afraid Of? Failing. I know we are all a little afraid of failing, but I am terrified. It caused me to flunk out of school. My thought process on this was that if I tried and failed I was just not intelligent, if I failed because I didn't try, I had control of that. I have long since realized that this was really dumb, but it seemed reasonable as an 18 year kid who liked to party. There have been so many things that I haven't tried because of my fear of failing. Triathlon has been one, but it is also helping me get over it actually. This is my third season that I have actually tried to get myself going. I finally have the support of my loving wife who makes sure I get my training in. I have really come to enjoy the entire journey of things and don't worry about the outcome as much anymore. I know that failure comes from lack of preparation and take care of things up front. Unleashed dogs of any kind or size, this one is just irrational. I also fear the day my father dies. |
