First Jim's spelling poorly, next he'll claim he's run a marathon when he hasn't!  Oh wait, that's a different thread...

Back to the original post - the phrase 'have your cake and eat it too' comes to mind.

Get your minds out of the gutter, you naughty sinners!

Thanks for the support all. I managed to force myself onto a stationary bike yesterday for 90 minutes, so apparently I can indeed have my cake and eat it too.

And no, I will not get my mind out the gutter. That's what this whole thread is about!

Get your new love up on the stationary bike with you to "get a feel" for your interests.

my early tri training (before i found this site) was one of a few factors that caused a breakup. i did the breaking, not the other way around. i didn't see myself giving the other person the proper attention she needed so i ended it instead of beating a dead horse for a few months. yeah i guess i'm just terse like that.

anywho life is full of priorities. you can't be the U.S. President and an Astronaut at the same time. depending on your work/neccessities schedule you may be able to fit a new and very active relationship in with very serious tri training, or something may have to give. maybe tri's will become less serious, maybe the relationship will be less serious. hopefully no compromise will be neccessary at all!

anywho, just remember its all about priorities and to put the right stuff at the top of the list.

With everything said, I agree with this post the most.

kimj81 - 2006-01-25 12:53 PM To hell with 'progress'! You can train for the rest of your life, but the first wonderful throes of love are all too short. Enjoy it and when the relationship settles down you can get back to it.

I was the idiot on the other end of the equation. She wanted me to train with her. I said "No Way" . . . she moves on . . . WAY ON . . . I decide to try it . . . and here I am hooked. Dooh!!

But if all she was looking for was a training partner . . . she was looking for the wrong guy. Relationship has to be THE most important thing or it won't last. IMHO.

Enjoy it man. Enjoy it. I pray I can find that again. It doesn't come often . . .

Update: still enveloped in a state of bliss. We're spending a ton of time together, and it just feels right.

The good news is that I've settled the butterflies in my stomach enough to continue doing the training that I want to be doing. I've increased my run and swim times, so I feel good about that.

The bad news: do I spend my pending tax return check on a new bike or on a vacation with the new love? Here's where the priorities have to be set. No decisions have to be made this week, but they'll have to be made in the next couple months!

Why not spend your tax return to go somewhere cool and do a race?  That way, you can do something you love (tri's), have your favorite girl there, and spend some afterwards checking out the city and spending time together   I don't think it's selfish- you can focus all your attention on her after the race, and she can have fun cheering you on and meeting you at the finish line to give you a big hug and kiss!
