Hey Quassy Peeps!  This will be my 2nd Quassy HIM... and I'm really looking forward to the smashfest ahead!  I vaguely remember last year hearing about a training ride up there??  I was in a Lake Placid induced training haze so I could be wrong.... but if there is one - I'd love to do it!

confirmed stress fractures of 2nd and 3rd metatarsals on right foot.  In the boot for 6-8 weeks.  anyone on this thread ever deal with something similar?  I'll be able to swim now, and cycle soon (albeit at less intyensity and seated), but i wont be running for nearly 2 months.  Bummed.

Sorry to hear this.

I've had 3 sf's previously, all in my 'running' life prior to my current 'tri' life over the past year.

It is critical that you let them heal. Pain should always be your key to cut back in any impact type training as you get closer to resuming training. Let them heal, so no impact at all for several weeks.

If I were you, I'd change the next block of training to a swim focussed block with no running and slowly adding in the bike when you are able.

I was able to run easy pace after 6 weeks-on grass first, then the TM (cushioned deck), then very short runs outside...I also added in walking/slow jogs on my TM with a lot of incline to add intensity.

It's a long road but you will get through it. Be smart.

Good luck.

There was an official preride, but some of ct type folks will be up there a few times too, I'll try and remember to post when we go up.

Take care of that man! Still hope to see you out there. I haven't dealt with it, but with broken bones, you have to just let them heal. Keep the stress off it as best you can. Don't think there is much you can do other than protect and give it the time it needs. Follow what your doctor says too.

Swim your heart out in the meantime and your fitness in the other two should come back faster than you think.

Thanks.  I plan on being in CT.  My coach and podiatrist have actually spoken since the injury, which makes me feel ALOT better.  In the boot, but I am able to cycle (on the trainer and seated) and swim fitness is getting strong(er).  Hopefully just a bump in the road and will get run fitness back patiently.  Quassy will be more challenging for me now, but that's the point right!?!

Had been training for this for the last several weeks, and with being notified of less than 50 spots left as of Wed., finally made it official and registered.  Very excited, but being that I raced it back in 2010, I am hoping for selective amnesia about the sufferfest ahead.

Have been training for this for a bit now.  This week I started the Quassy diet (lose 10lbs by June 3).  I figure at this point its going to be easier to drop the weight than increase the bike strength that I had planned on increasing over the winter.

I couldn't wait until June so signed up for a sprint and Du beforehand.

Happy training folks.

Stress fracture, third metatarsal last April. Follow the docs orders to the letter and let it heal. I did and was back running about 6 weeks later. I did however have to do Quassy aqua bike rather than full race. Yours may be more serious though.... just follow orders!

Wow, Quassy is only 10-weeks from this Sunday.  I'm hoping to get a pre-ride of the course next month.  I am hoping Target Training hosts a pre-ride again.  Despite having raced the course twice, I couldn't remember all those twists and turns for the life of me.  Perhaps all the pain and suffering while cycling the course blocked out any memory of direction.  Like Donzy said - "Selective Amnesia" indeed.  I've never given birth, but it has to be close to what it feels like to race this course

Anyone want to do a course pre-ride on Saturday May 21st?  I have not done the course before, so especially looking for someone who is familiar with the course, but all are welcome.

Rev3 just announced Powbar is a sponsor.  Does anyone know what sports drink will be on the course at Quassy?

I hope to god it's not Powerbar Rev3(ironman) Perform. That stuff tastes like mosquito repellent. WTC and Rev3 have swapped energy sponsors.

Yeah, I'm thinking what used to be Ironman Perform.  Dang, i really like Gartorade as a sports drink.

good news, now that i go back to rev 3's site, i see that they're still partnered with gatorade, so we can assume gatorade for the on course drink, and powerbar for the gels/gu/bars/whatever else. thats fine with me as i'll end up carrying my own personal favorite gu flavors.

The time's getting closer peeps! Hope everyone is training well and staying healthy/injury free.

I am looking forward to this one-for the challenge and due to the fact it will be my first triathalon-after a swim cancellation afforded me only 2/3 of my first attempt...

Hope to see/meet some of you on the training ride. Are there going to be 2 different rides/times?

I will be watching the thread for specifics when it gets closer.

Dale

I can only laugh out-loud when you say you are looking forward to Quassy for the challenge!!    It's a challenge all right!!  After the race you'll be able to appreciate my sense of humor more.

I'm very much looking forward to the race for a lot of reasons: we make it a family trip and take the ferry over to CT which is fun for the kiddies.  They also enjoy the amusement park and the small water park.  I love Rev3 race organizers, they put on a top-notch event as good if not better than Ironman.  I like seeing the Pro's hanging out and the Pro panel dialogue the day before.  I even love the swim at Quassy cause the lake is clean, clear, crisp and easy to navigate.  But my lovefest ends right about there and doesn't start again till I cross the finish line.  The Bike is cruel and the Run is downright torturous at three distinct sections.

I just mapped it out in Garmin and have no idea what you mean.

Well, if you do stuff like this once in awhile, not much else seems that bad.
