Here are my two cents. These are pretty obvious points but here goes, first I would see how you recover from your HIM if you feel like you are good to go for Chicago give this second point some thought. Chicago can fast or brutal. The past couple of years have been hot, not exactly sure but I'd say high seventies low eighties by the three hour mark. If the weather is good and you feeel good, get after it. Course is flat and the crowds are great. Good luck to you and to everyone else.

I'm in C.  Given how horrible my training is going, you'll all be passing me.  I'm hard to miss @ 6'5 & 240.  I'll be sporting the American Cancer Society schwag.

Also in Corral C   typically I'd wear my Marathon Maniac stuff,  but I'm going incognito this time. probably exact same as my avatar.     training/weight horrible all this year so this will be no PR attempt.  Just fun in a pain  but not suffering type of way.

I've been assigned corral E.  I don't really mind what corral I'm in even though I did try for D coming off a qualifying time at the Indy Mini.  The only funny thing with E is that apparently I'm signed up with a charity, Team World Vision, that I didn't know I signed up with.  Anyone else get randomly assigned a charity?  I guess I should contact someone and see what is going on with my registration....

I'm in C also but was put into the elite development... They fixed the issue

I guess that I will be passed a lot based on the fact I didn't put a lot of training marathon oriented this year and I focused on IMLP... 8 weeks to go seems not enough to fix speed

Oh well, It's gonna be fun

"G" for me.  I'll be the guy trying to look stoic and focused who is clearly freaking out on the inside (first Marathon!).

Good response from the folks in the marathon office.  I got my corral assignment fixed to D and they are looking into why my name is associated with that charity.

Question for those who have ran Chicago before - how strong do they mix the Gatorade Endurance formula at the aid stations?  I am finding that I can only handle it at about half strength.  But water and gel alone have worked well for my last two long runs, so maybe I will just go with that.  Thanks in advance.

Snow?  I hope so.  I've done it in the snow and in 90 deg weather.  Definitely prefer snow.

I find with any race it can be hit or miss, it just depends on who is doing the mixing that day. I'm not as sensitive to sports drink strength, so I didn't take too many mental notes, except when it is watered down (that really stands out for me for some reason). But I don't recall any weak mixed sports drink in the previous two years of this race. So I would plan for "normal" strength Endurance formula.

If you're looking to go the gel and water route, last year I carried two gel flasks. Each flask carried two gel packets worth and then were mixed together with water. I ran in my tri jersey and stuffed the flasks in my back pockets. Worked well for me.

I have (temporarily) dropped off the face of the BT earth (about to go into the taper for IMOO), but I wanted to reiterate that I am more than willing to open my patio (and the rest of my home) up for a meetup after the Marathon. If anyone wants to come, I know for sure Oriolepwr and his family will be coming. Love to meet the rest of you...lots of familiar names and faces (and legs...Miami I'm looking at you) on this thread.

I live in Bucktown just about two blocks from the blue line stop at Damen and Milwaukee...so it's easy to get to from the race site. If everyone is hungry/thirsty, we can order pizza or just buy a bunch of bags of potato chips and go to town. If you have family/friends that are sick of marathon crap by then my 'hood is a nice place to walk (slowly) around and do some sightseeing/boutiqueing/restauranting after you stop by...

So reply to this thread if you're going to come so I can get a head count and I'll PM everyone who is coming with my cell and address...

Quincy, I'd definitely be up for a meetup at your place.  It'd be nice to have everyone in a private place... more initmate discussions.  We can all pitch in for food and beer too- love the idea.  I don't want you to have to plan all on your own, so I'll PM you my information.

Matt

I should have mentioned, too- I live in the Lisle/Naperville area, but I'm staying at the Hyatt for the weekend.  I believe it was the official hotel of the race??
