I have many that I like, I am going through the list now... 

General Interest:  Circus (a 6 episode mini-series about a real circus), Exit through the Gift Shop (about a graffiti artist), Spirit of the Marathon (about people training for the Chicago Marathon), Run for your Life (about Fred Lebow and the NYC Marathon - LOVED this one), Running the Sahara

Tear Jerkers: Dear Zachary (very sad, only watch if you want a good cry), Young @ Heart (super touching), Herb & Dorothy (super sweet), A Walk to Beautiful

A truly beautifully done documentary, more artful and less informative: Man On Wire

If you like kids: Pressure Cooker, The Lottery, The Business of Being Born

If you like fashion: The September Issue (about Anna Wintour), Valentino: The Last Emperor (Very interesting guy), Vidal Sassoon: The Movie

Prom Night in Mississippi

Because I live nowhere near here, I was really surprised to find out that there were separate proms.

I absolutely loved this one!  His passion was just inspiring!  

Great suggestions so far.  

i really liked The Ride.  Phil Keoghan from the Amazing Race rides across america, averaging 100 miles per day raising money for the MS Society.  

I second "Dear Zachary" ....very sad but you won't be able to pull yourself away.

An old one but, I loved "Spellbound" about kids/families competing in the National Spelling Bee

I also really enjoyed the one on George HW Bush. 

PBS has some super good shows - not sure if they are 'documentaries' where they might air separately but recently saw a rebroadcase of, i think it was 'Nature' which was all about wildlife in Chernobyl.  Fascinating. 

On Netflix watched 'Blood into Wine' i think it was called.  Nothing super serious but is about the lead singer of Tool starting his own winery.

King of Kong: A Fist Full of Quarters

I tend to watch a lot of documentaries because it seems like the only thing interesting on Netflix.  

I liked:

Azorian The raising of K-129 - true life spy stuff during the cold war.

Hood to Coast - my wife got it a few weeks ago.  

King of Kong - because I grew up in during that era of video games. 

My fave would probably 180 Degrees South (a little preachy at the end but an adventure I'd kill for)

Other than that Restrepo, Ken Burns The War and Ken Burn National Parks were pretty awesome too.

All of those should be good to stream on Netflix.

These 2 are very powerful and made me tear up. I'm crazy for animals, so the Cove really made me sad/angry. 

Also a great TV series is Our America with Lisa Ling, its on OWN.

Running the Sahara (Those guys are nuts, and one is a total control freak!)

180 Degrees South (AWESOME soundtrack too!) (I've watched this like 6 times and am planning a trip to patagonia because of it!!)

Pearl Jam 20 (I heart Eddie Vedder)

Blood into Wine (Maynard James Keenan's (TOOL) adventure into wine making)

Cocaine Cowboys (Interesting insight into that world)

Pedal to the Midnight Sun :  Both about two guys up in Alaska taking long trips.  "Paddle" is beter I thought.

Ken Burn's Civil War Series

I don't know if anyone has seen it yet, it just got onto instant on Netflix, but there is a great one we just watched.  

My Run - (From Netflix description) - After losing his wife to breast cancer and struggling to maintain financial stability while raising their three children, 57-year-old Terry Hitchcock draws awareness to the plight of single parents by running from St. Paul to Atlanta in 75 days.

Really good!
