Veteran 458 Greensburg, PA | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Half Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread I am in for the half as well. It will be my second and I am excited because I really liked the distance! How is everyone's training going? I had 2 - 2.5 hour rides this weekend. Next week is a run focused week for me. Of course, that doesn't mean much as I have been fighting plantar fasciitis. I am really worried about the run, as I have not been doing much. Wish I could join in on a group ride, but I live a bit too far!! Happy training, Karen |

Alpharetta, GA | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Half Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread I'm in for the half. Registered a few weeks ago. Doing this one 20 days after Augusta. I figured that I will already be in HIM shape so I may as well do another before season's end. Plus, Wilmington is really pretty. Training is going strong so far! Andi |

Did my first one over 13 years ago now. Been at triathlons a while. I take breaks from the long stuff from time to time, though. Back at it again w/HIM until I qualify for WC 70.3 in Vegas. (Very doubtful that will happen this year BTW.) I can already tell I'm going to LOVE the swim at Augusta. Would prefer more hills on the bike, but at least its not Florida flat!! Glad to hear you enjoyed the race. I've heard only positive things and I feel like I should support the closest 70.3 here in Georgia! Andi |

Veteran 458 Greensburg, PA | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Half Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread What are everyone's training plans for the weekend? I have a mini sprint in the morning - it is a new race for me, we'll see how it goes! And, I have just a 90 minute bike ride on Sunday. Hope the weather holds up. We have had unseasonably cool weather here the past 2 weeks, and a lot of rain. How is everyone else doing? Karen |

Tourism focused area, so tonnes of food choices...the best ones are in downtown, near T2. Not so sure about Wrightsville Bch where you're staying but I do know there's a Publix right there. |

Aah and the Atlanta memories coming flooding back. I wish it was a Publix, but none of those up here in the NC. Harris Teeter right at the draw bridge before you go onto Wrightsville.
d00d What type of food you normally go for? |

It is just across the ICW in Wrightsville Beach. After crossing the ICW turn right, go until the road turns left. There will be a stop sign and Oceanic is to the left thru the intersection. Get there early or you will have to wait. |

I've actually gotten food from there to-go and then walked onto the beach and eaten on the beach. While I was waiting on the food I had a nice cold beer and watched my kids play in the ocean. Not a bad way to wait for take-out! |

Expert 1128 Fort Riley, Kansas | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Half Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread I am IN! Because of my circumstance I was given a charity slot to the race. I am registered for Augusta 70.3, but my husband is deploying to Afghanistan that week so right now I am not sure I will be able to do that race. If I do get to do Augusta 70.3 I will still be at B2B and will just race both! B2B is a bucket list race for me so there is no way I am missing it! Not sure how to count my HIM experience, did Muncie 70.3 last year before Ironman Louisville, then did NOLA 70.3 and Muncie 70.3 this year where both courses were cut short. Looking forward to seeing all of you in October! |

Do you guys think the neoprene hat and booties are necessary? I will be wearing a full-sleeved wetsuit. I have low iron so I get cold very easily |

I have a full suit and didn't need a neoprene hat and booties. And I am a wimp about cold water. If it will make you more comforatable though, I dont think the water will be warm enough that you will overheat. Having said all that, some cheapo flip flops or something to walk to the swim start would be very nice- the sand was freezing that morning and it HURT to walk to the start. It actually made the water feel nice! Edited by louiskie 2012-08-23 12:38 PM |

I did a mini sprint last weekend and the water was freezing - it took my breath away. I too, get cold really easily and was wondering the same thing. Is there anybody who wore them in previous years? I did a mini sprint last weekend and the water was freezing - it took my breath away. I too, get cold really easily and was wondering the same thing. Is there anybody who wore them in previous years? Karen Last year the water was 68 degrees, the air temp was in the upper 40's at the start, and didn't get out of the 50's. I was absolutely FINE with no booties and just wearing 2 latex swim caps in the water. However, I was immeasurably glad I'd brought wool socks, and skull cap, and wool gloves for the bike. Hopefully the weather will be warmer and drier this year, but I'd be more concerned about staying warm on the bike if it's chilly out. The water temps are projected to be in the upper 60's or low 70's again this year, and while a full-sleeve wetsuit is great for those temps, the cap and booties would be more trouble than they're worth, IMO. |

Regular 108 Crystal Coast | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Half Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread Jillian, I agree with everyone that a full suit should keep you warm enough, however, last year I did wear booties and was thankful since it is a pretty good distance from the swim exit to T1 and the booties helped running on the pavement. I am not a barefoot runner type...... JK |

Silly, yet honest, question here: What are these booties that you wear on the swim with a wetsuit? |

Any idea if they are going to launch us all together or split us into two waves? I guess I don't really care but it would be nice to know eitherway. |
