Ended up getting 5.87 with the WU/CD.

Curious- what does this mean?

Ended up getting 5.87 with the WU/CD.

Curious- what does this mean?

The main body of the workout was 5 reps of 800 meters (at a 5k pace) with easy 400's in between.  Adding that up comes to 3.5 miles.

Prior to hitting that set, it called for a 10-20 minute warm-up (WU ) and then it called for 10  minute cool down (CD)  so for the overall run I did 1.12 mile warm up, a 3.5 mile main set and a 1.25 mile cool down for a total of 5.87 miles (guess I left that label off there)

Oh geez. I don't know why that looked so foreign to me...I'm not THAT new to running! Lol. Awesome keep it up.

Finished 1st week!  Ran Su, M, Tu, W, Friday.  Today was an lsd and I've just finished.  I'm dogcussing life right now because I'm not sure why I thought I needed to sign up for a 50K when half the distance is kicking my azz.  Tomorrow is a rest day!

Way to go!!  I may need to take note of that, I read an article in competitor and was thinking, hey maybe a 50k would be fun (nevermind I have never run a stand-alone marathon).

I appreciate everyone's support :-)

Ah, don't listen to me.  I had just gotten in yesterday when I posted and I still wanted to whine.  But it definitely showed I didn't have my head in the right place; I had forgotten to think about nutrition in the beginning and then I was behind the whole time.

Go for the 50K because believe it or not, most of the training is fun because it's about time on feet and walk breaks.  And then the race is just plain different.  People are nicer in those types of races.  I've only done one other and it was an 8 Hour Run where you could quit early, start late, do a lap every hour, etc.  It's really unique and interesting because you never know if you are "behind" the person you just passed or "ahead" of the person that just flew by you.  You get to eat lots, walk whenever, and you don't have to focus on speed, pace, or the clock.

I may have to get the magazine out of the trash that had a 50 training plan (Laughing)

Did run number 4 last night with AJ.  We did 3 miles in 35 minutes and got to play along the trails, check out the temperature of the creek, and pet a greyhound.  A good time together.

Run # 5 this morning.  1 mile warm up run and then a 6.6 mile race.  Was about 2 minutes slower than last year (and 12 lbs heavier Frown   but all in all a good week of running and a successful run for what I wanted to accomplish today.

Yeah.. I'd heard about that one.. and there is of course 30 runs 30 days. I need at least one day off from running a week though, in order to get my swimming/biking/strength stuff in.

I am close to week 1 of a 16 week build plan for a March Half.

That's why I set up the 5x5.

I wouldn't be able to meet the challenge of running EVERY day at this point.

Yeah, this 5 days a week is a new twist to me, only every done that less than dozen times since I started running (at least in adulthood)  And most of the time when I did that, it included some short 1-2 mile transition runs or day before a race run, not this 3 mile/30min minimum.  I do have to admit, it is much easier to do when I am not trying to do 60 - 180 minute rides on the bike as well.

There is a new one forming to run at least 1 mile daily from Thanksgiving through the new year if you all are interested in something like that - it is under the challenge forum and DH (darren) is running it!

I saw that challenge and while I was I could, I just can't commit to it.  I'm like Kate and need a day or two a week down for other things - biking, life, other exercises.

But so far this week, got 4 for the week (even tho I had to get up at 4:50 this morn to get it done).  Tomorrow is a rest day and then Saturday (fingers crossed) will be my 5th.

Hi all! Been running, keeping up w the chllenge, and finally feeling pretty good during my runs (after being ill for a good 2.5 weeks. Talk about lingering!). Also excited to run with my kids at their schools annual Turkey Trot tomorrow!!! It's only a mile but Sooo much fun for everyone. It's amazing how few parents don't run it! Boo.

Did I mention I have a Half Mary tomorrow? Running Big Sur half with some newbie - half marathoners. I anticipate some walking. BUT that's OK with all the beautiful coastal scenery to take in. And it looks like we'll be running in the rain. :|

Have a great time at the race!  Nice of you to help out some newbies.

5 x 2 done.  5th run of the week done today and it was my last really long.  Now I get to taper.  Halleluah!
