sesh - 2013-01-07 11:39 AM My wife and I just watched Season 1 on Netflix over the last three days.  We are scrambling to find Season 2 to borrow from some one so we can join in on the Season 3 fun.  I'm hoping the Dowager Countess (we actually call her Professor McGonagall when we're talking about the show) remains the most awesome b**** that she was in Season 1.

She does, and does it in a most wonderful way!

tech_geezer - 2013-01-07 8:39 AM It was a much anticipated event in our house. We added TV in the apartment to see it in Atlanta. We have had the apartment for seven years without TV.Which BTer most resembles Lady Mary? Or any other BT-DA characters who match.

Ha! I don't know who resembles Lady Mary. I'm quite impressed of the addition of tv & a line just to watch it! Well done. That's historic, like when the Abbey got a telephone & electricity!

I will nominate you for Anna.

I'm JUST starting with this show (I literally just finished episode 1 on Netflix)... and I think know I'm going to be addicted.

I might as well just get out the trainer now and realize that I'm going to spend many hours on it listening to a posh English accent.

Teejaay - 2013-01-07 6:57 PMI've watched. It was great season opener. Lady Mary is still a cold fish. Wearing the wrong tux to dinner and getting mistaken for a waiter. Fancy drinks that are too exciting for so early in the evening. And a "picnic" all about the house with mere wines and cheeses???? It's too much. Shirley Mclaine is just what they need to untighten their uppity buttcheeks!
What, are we going to a BBQ?What's a BBQ? I don't even want to know what that is.

First off, sorry Comet for derailing your thread but ... The question was, who watches Downton Abbey ... it wasn't `Who can be a jerk and try to be all high and mighty because they are so cool they don't watch TV and when they do it's by accident.' WTF is wrong with you guys? Do you think it's cool to come into a thread and act like aholes to the OP? You don't watch TV? Great. Then why are you even responding to a thread about a TV show you don't watch?

Thanks Tony.

I'll admit I asked, but, yes, I was hoping it was understood I was trying to actually discuss the show. I guess I'm a lazy, unhealthy loser with an uncool family since I enjoy this TV program.

Speaking of, I should be back in time from my marathon on Sunday to watch episode 2!

Dont think I said that - however this is applicable to my family back in the UK - not the uncool bit but certainly obese, unhealthy and lazy.   I don't care what TV shows they watch or anyone else - whatever.   Not being high and mighty but if I watch TV it is either by accident or carefully planned coz I just don't have time!  And I stand by my statement that my family including little 3 year olds watching in excess of 5 hours a day is a contributing factor in their obesity, diabetes and general unhealthy state.

I'm slightly biased against this show having lived 30 years in the UK - I cannot suffer another English period drama - ive heard nothing but good things though so enjoy.

for the most part - I personally don't watch much TV - if I sit on the couch I fall asleep!  BUt my husband watches a lot, my daughter likes kids tv shows and occasionally we'll watch some things together.

For me I just prefer doing other stuff - if I've got time to watch TV then I probably will - but quite honestly my training, work, commuting, being a mom and keeping the house take up all the energy and time I have so I pick what I watch with care coz my time's precious.

Reason I responded to the post - the question was who watches.  So if this answer is less offensive - not me.

I've heard great things about the show and caught part of it last night - i love period dramas so this should be right up my alley. Hoping to find someone to loan me the first two seasons (not on Netflix here) because i saw them for a ridiculous price at the store. Now that we have our DVR set up i am recording and jumping in ... looking forward to some discussions when I catch up!

I got mine on Amazon for reasonably cheap awhile ago but the price seems to have gone up since then.

I finally found PBS on my channel listings...and set Downton Abbey to record.  They are thankfully replaying the premiere next week before episode 2.  Yay!  Now I have to get through Seasons 1 and 2 so i can actually watch 3!

I will admit, as I watched Alabama destroy the pretenders known as Notre Dame, I checked to see if my wife had Tvo'd Downton.....you know, so I could make fun of her. Cool

I had to DVR it and watch it last night as I could not stay up for the whole 2 hours!!! I am really that sad.

And I watch TV - Homeland, Revenge, Downton, House of Lies, Smash

and I don't for a second think that people who don't watch tv are any better - I multitask and get more work done with it on in the background, so the way I see it those who don't watch cannot handle it.

For those like me, racing to catch up so we can join the season three Countess b****iness, Amazon prime has season's one and two available.  I was checking yesterday, and Prime has nearly everything that Netflix Streaming does (can't speak to DVD Netflix service).  Plus, it actually is cheaper over the span of a year and you get free shipping if you buy stuff off Amazon.  Made the switch when I saw they had Season 2 and also Dinosaur Train, which has become very important in our house recently.

I love the Dowager Countess and her reaction to Cora's mother is just simply the best thing on television right now.  Can't wait for next week!

I sadly love silence!  I listen to the radio in my office all day with my colleague.  I have a seven year old daughter who could seriously get an Olympic medal for talking, a loud Greek husband who loves tv and noise.  So when I get a chance for silence I take it....

of course I am female and can multitask Laughing

I'm so excited for next week too! Dowager is the best, just too good for words!

Also, it's online for a short time! I don't know how long they'll keep the episode up, but if people haven't seen it watch it before Sunday!

OMG - I donated to our local public television station and now just received all 3 seasons on DVD -

dilemma - do I watch season 3 as a big orgy (like I did seasons 1 and 2) or let it be teased out as it airs?

don't know if I can resist it....
