KIRSTEN. 60x50

holy hell Batman, you are Manatawesome!!!!

That would be my nemesis no-way-uh-uh I am NOT doing that workout. 50x50 is my LEAST favorite set in the whole world. It literally drives me insane. I would rather do 100x100 (in a 50m pool) or 12x200 fly. In any pool. NO WAY 50x50 and DEFINITELY not 60x50. You are an ANIMAL! A Manatanimal!

Aw, shucks.

Interesting.  I would rather do 500x50 than anything x200.  I just did 5x200 and it darn near killed me.  But it didn't, so it musta made me stronger, no?

These are really good and fairly accessible resources regarding tri/road bikes from two of the top bike guys in the world--Tom Demerly (he may be somewhat socially awkward, but no one would argue that he doesn't, above most people, thoroughly understand bikes and cycling) and David Greenfield. They've fit countless top triathletes--world champs, Olympic champs, etc.

The nice thing is that they also do respond to personal e-mails about what they've written. Especially if you tell them YANTI sentcha

http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/bikes/difference.shtml

http://www.elitebicycles.com/tutorials/ChooseBike.pdf

Some of the stuff Dan Empfield (head ST dude) has written is good too; I just don't have it at hand at it tends to be a lot more technical. He also invented the triathlon bike .

Where is Tom now? He was one of those polarizing folks here, but it was apparent he loves the sport and has a pretty deep knowledge base.

He's working for Felt Bicycles in San Diego. I keep in daily touch with him through Facebook. He was around a lot more earlier because he worked for Trisports.com and it was part of his job to keep up with and research trends through social media.

HAHAHA I remember very early on (I mean, weeks on BT) Badger Jen Moose (Artemis) sent me a polite but VERY pointed PM not to post Tour de France spoilers ... BT didn't have a spoiler policy back then so I was all PFFFFFFT but it's funny, that's what put her on my radar and upon further investigation I realized she is an awesome soul ... one of the best.

So many people reached out to me early on. I actually posted a thread last year I think where I asked almost exactly what Dub6 did ... who were the first people to respond to a post of yours/inspire you/PM you.

I've met too many BTers to count. I've hosted three in my house here in Bali and it would be a lot more if I hadn't been so deathly ill so often for the last few years.

I hate 200s as well, but only in 25m pools. Such an awkward distance--too painful to go fast (but that's the point), too short to go steady. Very tolerable in LCM, though.

PIKKATI PUPPY IS SOOOOO CUTE!!! I do think puppies are cute

Mini-Manatee cousin Jahe Kitty (who is working on getting re-named DeathWish) is growing by leaps and bounds and, like all the Funny Farm family, suspiciously seems to do better in my absence. Ha ha!

No, I don't think she's cute. She's an awkward furry alien with oversize ears. And like most kittens (mine, anyway) she is UGLY and LOUD and STINKY. Like human babies. Come to think of it, like a lot of adult humans too.

Don't listen to her Jahe, you are beautiful.  You just have to grow into your ears.

She certainly doesn't listen to me, and we can add "stupid" to that list ... she just dunked her head into my coffee ... DO NOT MESS WITH MY CAFFEINE ...

I should show her what happened to the last cats who got into a box of my Pop Tarts ...

Salty - sorry to see that happened in your neighborhood. That sucks and I am sure you will be safe on all your runs.

Jo - Scooby is adorable. I know I am enjoying the "ride" with Pikatti. In another month he will be old enough to go to a dog park here, so the only dog interaction he gets is with his litter mate, Miki.

Regarding me running with Pikatti. I am only doing very short runs with him, nothing more than a block and that is usually when him and Miki are already pulling me. Any serious running is several months away, maybe around December for anything more than about a block. We will run and play in the snow, but as far as a training run that is a long ways off. From what other husky owners have told me around 1 year old we can start running. I do not include play running in that mix since he does a lot of it with Miki when they are playing outside. I am listening to everyone in that regards and not doing anything that could have a negative impact later on in Pikatti's life.

Jonathan - ENJOY the IronMan race.

Had another great run tonight in my taper.  Three easy 8:00 miles.

I'm going to start some speedwork after the HM so I can shift to my next goal, which is a sub-20 5k.  Anyone have advice on how to do that?

Yes. Train for a marathon and run a 5K in a year or so.

I'm not actually kidding. You're a fast runner but with (relatively) little base on your legs, especially recently.

As for speedwork, feel free to (and you should do) run "sometimes hard" -- hills, strides. But at this point, I wouldn't add what most people think of as formal "speedwork."

I need to learn what those things are, is what I'm saying.  I can't work it in until that happens.

I think I can hit my sub 20 goal without too much speed work.  This year is def learning and marathon focused.  Next year is going to be my speed year all around, with a sub 18 5k goal among others.

Ah, she is wise, the almighty Yanti.

Good move, my friend. Build base, take time, keep adding a bit here and there, and train consistently. By consistent, I don't mean the same thing every day, but something nearly every day.

It is interesting, trying to figure out what people mean sometimes. I know that my "Speedwork" and Salty's are worlds apart.  For her there is an obvious, scheduled, program with an actual, knowledgable coach having a solid goal in mind. For me it is a more free flowing, quasi scheduled thing, with a day that the effort is simply more focused on going faster. Not what most people call speedwork, but I'm not ready to jump into that yet. I'm barely ready to step into it.

You were the inspiration for my question, I remember yours. I was in the "Introduce Yourself" forum the other day. I try to go in a couple of times a month and welcome someone, because you did that for me and I really appreciated it. The site went from a place to log workouts and learn triathlon stuff to a place to meet people with a similar interest. It started to become warmer and more human on that day. And then being in this group has enforced that feeling even more, and I try to continue learning about the sport AND even more about the people. Because in the end, it is the people that matter most.

Have a great day and an even better weekend everyone!!!!

Clean as a whistle for near on six months. Training hs been dire due to the weather and my wimpy attitude.

Will be hitting the tarmac for my first race on Sunday- the Lincoln 10k race.

Had to give my 'race' bike back but i am currently testing a cannondale from my LBS in preparation for my upcoming sprints, oly distance and HIM scheduled for August.

Froggy, you are talking to fast for me.  What race schedule?  You know that I need details!

Understanding someone can be tricky. I mean, for the speed work, I'm not entirely sure what I'm asking. I'd like to stay marathon prep focused, but mix in at least one day of some type of faster running. Don't know what that looks like or what speed work running is, so it is a bit nebulous. But I am scared stiff of the marathon, so that gets plenty of respect.

I thought about PMing him but did not.  I have added him to the roster how that he hopped back into our thread though.  (I noticed that his training logs are as active as ever!)  I think that he hopped back because of the 10k this weekend.  He must want a Manatee Send Off!
