Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'll be on vacay, or I'd do that one - a few of us went down to watch the last one, it was really awesome! Esp. if you've got questions on how the transition works, it's good to see in person, up close, even if you don't participate. Great fun, I second the recommendation to check it out! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in! Sounds like a great way to get the feel of an open water swim under very safe circumstances... color me there. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Would love to join you guys for the practice tri. I thought about it and checked out the location. It's 160 miles from me if I go the ferry route - farther if I drive around. Think I will have to skip this one, just don't feel like I have the time to spend on the road. I have been planning a practice run here. A swim in the river close to my house with hubby doing life guard duty, then biking and running my regular routes. Those of you that participate in the NJ practice will have to give full details on how it went. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay ladies– I dont mean to hijack your thread, but I am wondering how far Neptune is from the Sandy Hook race location? This was the closest I could get with my accomodations. |

This was the closest I could get with my accomodations. Uh, where exactly in Neptune are you staying? I don't mean to scare you, but unless you are staying in Ocean Grove, a section of Neptune Twp, most of the other motels and such are somewhat sketchy. As far as travel time on race day, depending on what part of Neptune, maybe 30 minutes or so, maybe less. It'll take like 10 minutes or more from when you enter Sandy Hook to where you will park no matter where you stay. |

Neptune Days Inn 3310 Highway 33 Neptune, NJ 07753 US This was seriously the only thing I could get. Can you suggest a better location?? Tinton Falls maybe…?? I am from NJ originally, but not terribly familiar with this area. Thanks for any help you can give. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've got a room booked at the Marriott Courtyard in Edison. The "team danskin" group is staying there. I will be able to ride to the race with them on Sunday morning, that way hubby and the kids don't have to get up so early. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The problem with having 2 BT user in the same house is that you have to be really careful about which user name is up when you start typing. About the Courtyard in Edison - the Danskin coach thought it was about 30 mins. from Sandy Hook. I know next to nothing about NJ so I don't think I can be much help. |

Based on what I know about NJ (i did grow up there) that's prob about right. I'll take comfort in knowing that I won't be the only one who has to travel a bit to get there Sunday morning. Thanks! |

![]() | ![]() I am staying at Marriott Edison. I mapquested it and came up with 32 minutes to race site. I am working with a small team from MD, and we are all staying there. It should be fun. I hate to travel far on race morning, but there ios very little actually near Sandyhook. I spoke with another coach for this race (out of NY) and they reported the water should not have much current, but can be choppy. So if you can get some open water in it will help. We worked hard bricks today..race day is coming up fast. Good Luck! Train Hard, and I'll see ya there. Dave |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today it hit me there are 26 days to go. That makes me queasy!!!!! |
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() what makes me queasy is that i got my first case of road rash today while taking the bike out for what was supposed to be a 5-6 mile ride tops. took a spill over the handlebars while trying to practice the whole hydrating-while-riding thing... bad idea... some old ladies in a car brought me home because i couldn't even walk (thank god i wasn't far from home base at the time) good news is, no broken bones, but my right elbow is RED and inflamed and SORE and my right hip really HURTS! not to mention my bruised ego... my dh said it was a very drastic way to get him to cook dinner. yeah right... doubt i'll be up for a run tomorrow - but i can't waste more time... i need accelerated healing! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh, road rash - bad news ![]() |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Poor gal! Really sorry to hear you took a spill... I'm wishing you a very speedy recovery!! One of my gals is out of the race for similar reasons, 2 weeks ago she was out for a run, at night, and tripped over a fallen tree branch - basically landed on her elbow. Nothing broken, but a lot of pain, and no way to train through it. I'm sure she'll beat us all next year |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You know I was thinking it might be fun if we could all meet each other either at the race first thing or on Saturday at registration? It would be nice to put aface to all of you. I got bad news yesterday. Been having a pretty painful foot problem, found out that its a Mortons Neuroma (inflamed nerve between 3rd and 4th toe) Mine is 5mm and the Doc said I really shouldn't run before the race!!! I had a cortisone shot yesterday and I'm giving it a week and then we'll see. He said he'd give me another shot the week before the race....Aaagh! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think a meet and greet is a great idea. Sat. during registration would work best for me, if it works for everyone else. Brenda |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This one is for Ms. Stumfossil - I was reading your other Danskin race report (nice work, btw!) and I was wondering exactly how one places Tevas (or other footwear) to get you from the swim to your transition area without wrecking your feet?? I've heard of this for other races where the end of the swim is far or across a gravely parking lot to the bikes, but I don't know how to go about it... did you SWIM with Tevas in your tri-shorts??? I can't imagine with waves and waves of people at the swim start that you could just leave them on the beach and find them when you're done.... ~ Daft Newbie Christine |
