So what level of the challenge are you accepting, or are you just trolling the thread looking for sniping opportunities? Fair enough, but all meant in good fun. Apologies offered if not taken as such. I'm working with a coach and am 100+ days out from my first 1/2-IM, so I'll do what she says and let the numbers fall where they may. |

But if yyou're going to lob "good fun" grenades you better be ready for return fire. Ah, falling back on the old "can-only-do-what my-coach-says" defense, huh? Lethbridge, Alberta | Subject: RE: Join the 700 Mile club or Ultimate 822.7 Mile club 2007 I'll try the three sport version of this. I've been working on running and am already doing the elite level 100 mi/mo. My swimming has been fairly consistant too, probably hitting master level in January. As for biking, well ..., I keep saying I'm going to have to start racking up some bike miles. So far there's not much to talk about there this year and I'm really not sure how much I can ramp it up to, safely. Biking volume will be my limiter in this challenge but it's also what I need to work on now. Adding in lots of bike miles will probably force some concessions in the other sports too. I'm trying to get ready for a marathon though, so I can't cut too much running and will probably go way over on that. For April, I'll commit to making Veteran level (and maybe shoot for Expert if I feel like I'm not hurting anything). |

Elite 2796 Texas | Subject: RE: Join the 700 Mile club or Ultimate 822.7 Mile club 2007 After a review of my training plan, it's only a bit of a stretch for the run (I'd need to add about 2.5 hours over the whole month). I feel like that's okay, I need to build my running (carefully) after take a month off and my run plan is a little light. So, I'm in for: Ultimate 822.7 Mile Club: Jorge you may need to dog me out a little... |

Pro 4054 yep, | Subject: RE: Join the 700 Mile club or Ultimate 822.7 Mile club 2007 Hmmmm... so when would we start again?? April 1st. I mean I think I could do 300 bike. I know I can do the 40 run, and the 15,000 swim. Just jumping up the miles with the bike might be a little too much.
Can someone take a look at my miles lately and tell me if I could do it. Just worried with the bike. But nicer weather is on the map lately. |

Elite 2608 Denver, Colorado | Subject: RE: Join the 700 Mile club or Ultimate 822.7 Mile club 2007 Jorge, Just curious on what you based these distances: Ultimate 822.7 Mile Club: · Elite – 700 Mi bike, 100 Mi run, 22.7 Mi swim (40,000 yds) · Master – 500 Mi bike, 75 Mi run. 17 Mi swim (30, 000 yds) · Expert – 400 Mi bike, 50 Mi run, 11.3 Mi swim (20,000 yds) It doesn't seem to be x times any of the tri distances. BTW - I'm down for the 400 mile bike only which will put me in the "Expert" level. Edited by MikeTheBear 2007-03-23 6:12 PM |

Expert 957 | Subject: RE: Join the 700 Mile club or Ultimate 822.7 Mile club 2007 I'm in- IMLP is now less than 4 months away. If it was a swimming and running event, I'd be set, but since it's not, it's time to really work on the bike now that it is supposed to be getting warming. But my goals are all over the place, 40,000 is the usual monthly swim goal, with a marathon at the end of the month (I'm NOT racing it only pacing it) and a couple of long runs before that, at least 75 should be possible for the run, but then we come to the bike again. 400 would be a good goal but time could be an issue- low speed equals many hours on the bike. So I guess expert level for the ultimate club, but we'll see about that bike part. Maybe the fact that by the end of the month it will be 2 months and x number of days will be a good motivator for me to implement the new training plan- bike as much as possible- easy, hard doesn't matter, I just need to be on the bike. |

Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: Join the 700 Mile club or Ultimate 822.7 Mile club 2007 Jorge, >>> I just did what any highly educated & experienced endurance coach and a man of science would do: First I spend some time calculating the ideal workload necessary to develop the optimal training adaptations in order to increase an athlete’s fitness level. I compared my results versus the last scientific findings in the sports physiology field and validate my numbers. Then based on a 30 day cycle I calculated the ideal volume required to optimize training performance without inducing unnecessary fatigue and tested from beginners to seasoned athletes to prove that my calculations were correct. Last but not least, I applied complicated algorithm models in order to come up with the ultimate training swim to bike to run ratio! If you don’t buy the previous explanation then it might be easier to believe that I just took Bear’s cycling 700 Mi club and figured a significant monthly running and swimming distance in this case: 100 running Mi (or 25 a week) and 40,000 swim yds (or 10,000 a week) and that’s how I came up to the elite distance. For the other levels I just took 100 & 25 Mi and 10,000 yds from each, VERY complicated stuff, lol! Keep in mind that the Ultimate Elite/Master distance will be appropriate for an athlete training for a IM or HIM and currently training at least 10-12 hrs a week, Ultimate Expert for those training HIM/Oly and currently training 8-10 hrs a week and Ultimate Veteran for Sprint/Oly traiing 6-8 hrs a week. For instance for the 822.7 Mi it should take an athlete anywhere between 45-50 hrs for the entire 30 days, which comes ups to 11.5-12hrs a week. Considering a 3/1 cycle (3 week steady training 1 week unload) it should be around 12.5hrs 1st week, 13.5hrs 2nd, 14hrs 3rd and 10hrs 4th as unload. Although it is an ambitious goal IMO it is not THAT out there and also as I mentioned before, this challenge should be a way to motivate and push you a bit harder of what you normally would, but also it should fit within your long terms goals and your current fitness level. Finally, since completing this challenge it is mainly about the volume, most sessions should be done on th easy/steady... I hope this helps |
