Yikes! It's scary to even type that!

I am hoping to!  We'll see in September if the race I've done for the past two years is adding a HIM distance, which was the rumor.  If that falls through, I'll consider the Steelhead HIM.

Three of them!! Have you done any before???

I haven't even done an Oly. I did three sprints this summer (one was just short of an Oly), a duathlon, a bike race and a couple run races.
I completed all of them fairly handily. It was really a great first season!!

Good for you!! I am making a big leap too!

Ironman - I don't think I will ever do that. The bike just sounds overwhelming. And then a marathon. But for the race I am doing this weekend, my coach says just think of the task at hand: the swim when swimming, the bike when biking, the run when running. Don't think of anything but what I am doing.

I have a 1/2 IM on my list of goals for 2008. So I am working towards one, but it might realistically another year away, but I will know more after my winter workouts and weightloss go. My plan is to do a Olympic length Tri early in the year, and possibly a HIM in later summer or fall.

Thanks for asking

Thanks Nancy! I like your coach's philosophy. You will do GREAT! I will watch for your report!

I am thinking about making the leap from olympic to 1/2 iron at the end of next summer. Live near Chicago so am looking for something in the midwest in August or may travel. Anyone have suggestions for the midwest?

I have my first Olympic in September. Depending on how it goes I may do a HIM close to the end of the season next year.

A couple in Ohio if you want to travel
Great Buckeye Challenge - August 3 (just south of Dayton)
Toyota Challenge at Deercreek - September 21 (just south of Columbus)

I'll put you on my list, and we can follow each other's workouts. I need a kick in the butt sometimes, I know that for sure.

I need to be pushed out of the comfort zone of my average run/ride length (and difficulty level)  My swim coach is god at ushing me past my comfot level there--but he's only a pool guy.  One of my swim partners does IM/HIM level regularly, I need to get OWS with him aswell as the tri club

Whirlpool Steelhead in Benton Harbor, Michigan

Racine HIM, in Wisconsin.

I think there is a racing for recovery HIM in Southeastern Michigan somewhere

I am planning on Steelhead for 2008, not committed yet but I hope to be by April, I'll hopefully be a little more confident with the swim by then.

The Newfoundland, what's the weather like for that.  H2O temp, temp on the run/bike.

I appreciate all of the suggestions. JChristoff, what have you heard about those two races in Ohio?

I recall the ratings on Steelhead were mixed as some thought it was great while others thought it was average. That would be another possibility.

Look forward to watching everyone progress in their training over the next year. With similar goals it will be good to keep an eye out for each other!

Shortyy;

The weather for the Newfoundland race is a crap shoot so to speak. This year was ideal...(for some), it started early so about say 20 degrees, then stayed overcast (not humid at all) and then reached a high of 24 degrees with showers and rain for the last part of the run. Yes, people were VERY happy!! The day before was hot (30+ with humidex)and sunny. My brother in law came down to do the race and he said that he found it was not humid at all (Lives in Toronto, Canada) but we Newfoundlanders (no, not Newfies, please) found it hot! A lot depends on what you are acclimatized to. The racers found it awesome race conditions as they could crank it out and not be overheated. For the swim, you will need that wetsuit as the water is chilly (but certainly not cold).

Its a great race overall and the folks that come out for it are awesome! Don't pass it over without some thought.

Michael AJ

My aim is to close out next year doing the Longhorn Half...not an actual "70.3" sanctioned race....I'd like to do 1-2 of those in the 2009 year, and then an IM in 2010.  So, Austin next Oct, that is the plan! Good luck to you all, happy training to all! Stay injury free and remember to HAVE FUN!

I think the water is OK, and the air is pretty cool usually. Further up on this thread there was a comment by a BT member whose wife had done it and loved it! They are both doing it next year!
