Yep...NEWFOUNDLAND 1/2. My wife did it this summer and it was AWESOME! The swim is nice and clean, the bike is flat (one climb) overall and slices down a river valley with big mountains all around and the run is flat along the river. Organized really well and lots of other stuff to do around with the family. (River rafting, whale watching, good food, small town to hang out and superb hiking.)>::

See you there nancylee!

Racing For Recovery in June-actually a practice HIM before an A race in Sept.

Sept A race either

Muskoka 70.3
or
Great Illini HIM, depending on reviews posted in a couple of weeks.

Can't figure out if I want flat or some hills and beauty. I'm leaning towards Muskoka as I would at least enjoy the scenery while I try to survive the distance, but I'm concerned the course may kick my arse, so I'll probably find a flat course and move onto hillier routes for 2009.

If I can improve my OW swim practice time and comfort level the Patriot HIM, Williamsburg, VA in early September will be the goal.  Otherwise it will wait another year (gotta pick up more bike time as well as running of sizeable distances)

I am so psyched Michael!!! That is awesome that you are doing it! I had read about the hill at the end of each loop, and was worried, but it sounds like it is doable.

Keep in touch with your training - I have to make sure I get enough time on the bike, especially.

Yeah, I was worried about Newfoundland because of the hill they mentioned, but another BTer said his wife did it, and the bike is pretty flat except for one hill. I am relieved!!

I love the training - it's the races I hate!!! Actually, it is the days before the races that I hate.

Oh don't say that.  It is my 1st 1/2 IM.

Actually where I live, it is nothing but hills so I am a little used to them.  But it still is my 1st and anything can happen.

I am thinking about making the leap from olympic to 1/2 iron at the end of next summer. Live near Chicago so am looking for something in the midwest in August or may travel. Anyone have suggestions for the midwest?

I should keep in touch with your nervous wife as a support group - as soon as I survive (Or not!) my Oly race this Sunday I will start worrying about the half IM!!

I haven't even done an Oly. I did three sprints this summer (one was just short of an Oly), a duathlon, a bike race and a couple run races.
I completed all of them fairly handily. It was really a great first season!!
