I'm wearing my tinfoil hat as I type this so you can't determine my evil plan...

Doesn't that create quite a drag in the water?

Honestly, the thought of checking the standings down the stretch hasn't even crossed my mind.  I have no intention or desire to spend an hour of my holiday weekend playing with the spreadsheet.  In fact, I just took it offline so nobody else can assess the situation either.  As far as I'm concerned, we are all pushing for our own personal goals and the team standings are simply a byproduct.  I'll update everything Wednesday morning one final time and we'll know how it all played out.

Now I'm going to have a beer!

nikki - 2005-05-27 9:02 AM

jclem's thread brought to light an interesting observation.

Since TH3_FRB is the one tallying the numbers, the men will have a clear advantage of knowing how close the race is on the home stretch. They can feasibly get the needed yards in to win. So, i'm wondering if either there is a woman on team CHYCK that can keep the same up-to-date tallying (or is already), or if the tally gets posted say...Monday night? Maybe the win has to be by a certain percentage..making it less likely that a group can be corralled to swim the yardages on tuesday?

(not that i think anyone is capable of such last minute aggressive drive. no, certainly not anyone here).

I didn't consider that it would be taking time away from your weekend, apologies. Maybe we should hire out the results to some accounting firm like they do for the Academy Awards or American Idol?

Has anyone set a swim goal for June yet? I'm curious to see how people will react without the challenge. I think I'll be steadily increasing distance for a while. I now know what I can do, and some of you set a really good example. Congrats to all.

I made it pointy, no drag. I wouldn't recommend it for open water swimming, though. Too many fishies are attracted to shiny stuff

Currently 3000m over my 20km.  I will hit the pool once again this weekend. Calling for rain all weekend. Just like last weekend. Sure would be nice to get some kms on the bike or run. Lets go guys swim, swim, swim. And then you can enjoy your  Holiday on Monday.

Ladies, I estimate that we are at 87% of goal. When I reach my goal at 100%, that would nudge us up to only 88%. The guys can still win this challenge; they might even spank us in the process.

This is the final push! It ain't over 'til it's over! Strive to meet your goal. Don't be fooled by the men's defeatist attitude. They want this Win just as much as we do, maybe even more. If they beat us by only half of a percentage point, they STILL win and we have to post our swimsuit shots for a whole month. Won't you feel awful if you didn't get your yards in and we lose by only 0.5%? I know I will!

YOU CAN DO IT! JUST 4 MORE DAYS THEN WE CAN ALL REST OUR LOVELY SHOULDERS!

SWIM!!!!

HAVE A GREAT MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT.

S W I M !!! WE CAN WIN!

No worries...although I can't believe that I never thought about doing some secret updates to see how close we might be and get the guys out in the lead.  Have no fear...that's too much work and besides, I'm not worried.  I have confidence that the guys will step up in the final days and pull out the win.

i'm swimming my ass off girls. But I was cocky. And my form is falling apart as I try to get in as much as I can- I am cranking out as much as I can, but if anyone has a few extra hundred in 'em, I'd be much obliged....

if it is I who loses for the whole team, I will increase my 4 week bathing suit shot to 8 weeks. So There.

I have some suggestions which I hope the men will take to heart when they pose for their respective photos.

In the first picture, we have a nice full body shot. The lighting makes it interesting. This gets 2 thumbs up.

I really like the angle on the 2nd pic. We get to see some chest, the nicely developed back muscles (and gratuitous butt shot), legs. This is my #1 recommendation for the men to mimic their shots on although pic #1 is pretty tough to beat.

#3 and 4 are action shots. Those would provide some variety in the pic layouts.

As if anyone could hold a candle to THORPIE!!!!! I still have 2 copies of the life size poster of him printed in The Age (Melbourne) during the Olympics.

Oh come on...the guy's a toothpick! He looks to be imitating a chicken striving for flight in pic #3.

I hate to be the burden of bad news for my fellow ladies, but, I have been told that our stunning and amazingly talented Thorpie likes the male type. I know it`s just not fair, but I still love him. GO THORPIDO GO!

Well Team Chyck . . . I'm doing my best to contribute to the final goal. I missed the first 11 days of May due to a virus that made me sicker than I've been in my life. Inspite of that I am at 77.5% of my goal. If I can squeeze in two more days of swimming I'll be very close to my goal.

It seems that this swim lots challenge has been wonderful for me. In April my longest swims were 1800-2000 yards . . . now I am regularly doing 2500-2700. I feel more relaxed and comfortable in the water and I can actually say that I almost like swimming! Quite an achievement I would say. So I am glad for this challenge . . . I never would have swam so much if I wasn't afraid of letting my team down.

Keep swimming Chyckies!

Sorry I have missed out on the trash talk, but I am charging as fast as I can to catch up to my goal. Had a couple of bad weeks and am having to pull double pool sessions today!

Shoulders aching! Dragging my knuckles around the office! To add insult to injury I find out that the pool is closed Sunday and Monday! AARRGGH I am gonna have to find another 3000 yards out there somewhere!

I will make it! I will make it! Swim Swim Swim Swim.....

Thanks for setting up this challenge TH3 FRB. It has really helped me push my swimming and helped prepare me to feel more confident at my first tri (2 weeks to go, yahoo!) There were so many times I wanted to quit but kept swimming knowing I couldn't let the ladies down. I surpassed my goal on Tuesday and have 3, yes three, more swims scheduled before its all done. They won't all be long swims but every lap helps.

Goooooo Chyks!!

And I am happy to report that all this fabulous swimming is helping me to get those sexy arms I've always wanted (still a ways to go, but they're a comin'--hello definition. Yahoo!

Glad to see so many people happy they decided to sign up for the challenge and make some serious progress in the pool.  I only started swimming 13 months ago meself and back in the beginning 10X50m was a monster workout that would completely drain me.  Now, 3-4k is my usual and I'm plenty fresh most days to pull a double with an evening run or bike.  Swimming has gone from my weakest sport by far to a solid #2 (behind running of course) and biking is now where I need to focus my effort.

GREAT WORK EVERYONE!!!

yes - Thanks TH3 for organizing and keeping the stats for this challenge!!

Like a lot of others here, I was aggresive in my goal -- over double the longest distance I had ever done in a month in my LIFE -- and met it (with a week to spare!).  Now - I'm off for a long weekend where there will be no swim-bike-run going on, but I just might sneak in one last swim on Tuesday I kick in a couple more meters for the cause.

Go Chycks!!

You can add me to the list of those helped. Prior to this I'd only been in the water about 8 times and could barely get across the 25 yd lanes without dying doing all FS. Typical workouts were less than most people's warm ups! Maybe 400-500 yds, and I was still wiped. I'm at 91% of my goal (still only 10k yds / 9144m), which I didn't think would be possible to hit without a strong current and floating alligator raft (w/ cupholders off course). Last nite I swam 150 yds consecutively for the first time, up from 100 yds consecutively just a week ago (all FS in both cases). I could do more mixing the strokes, but am determined to get it doing FS. So I'm definitely making progress that I otherwise wouldn't have.

Oh yeah, I'll hit my goal on Sat. and surpass it on Monday.

This swim challenge was just the thing to get me going! THANK YOU! I'm not taking the competition seriously, but I am trying very hard to meet my goal. I'm at about 14,000 yards and pledged 18,000. Considering I only swam 1700 yards in the month of April, I'm feeling pretty darn good! If I can't meet my goal 100%, I know I did my best and set my standards pretty high for my ability and time constraints with a 9 month old.
I think we need to do a bike challenge next.
