I went to Bikram (hot) yoga this morning and it was hotter and more humid than usual and so I was more wiped out than usual.  On the way home, if someone had dangled a cookie in front of me, I would not have been responsible for the consequences.  Fortunately, no one did and I escaped my first really serious craving for something sweet.  I had lunch and am better now.  I am guessing the craving was due to dehydration.  I had finished off the water I brought with me and wished I had more, but was too cheap to pay the two bucks for another bottle.  Anyway, I got home, had more water and lunch and the crisis appears to have been averted.

Have a terrific sugar-free day.

Leah

It's so easy after a long hard workout to convince yourself that you deserve that sweet treat. I mean you did all that work. Way to go.

LeahDD - 2009-01-01 9:29 AM I have discovered Celestial Seasonings tea.  I am not a "regular" tea drinker and I only drink coffee in the morning.  Before this challenge I would drink Diet Coke and sometimes in the evening a very weak hot chocolate (mostly hot milk made with the 25 calorie fat-free hot chocolate mix).  Both are banned in this challenge, but the Celestial Seasonings tea seems to satisfy the need for a hot liquid at night.  I haven't tried all the flavors yet, but so far they seem to do the trick.

Sleepytime is my favorite.

I like the Sleepytime Extra with Valerian Root.  The valerian root is like a natural valium -- makes you feel very smooth and relaxed

Okay, so I've officially tied "Joe the Slacker" on the spreadsheet.  I warned you guys - I'm a sugarholic

The good news is I am down 5.2 pounds and I am back on the wagon.  I'm actually enjoying black coffee now ...go figure

New Rule:  You have to check in atleast once every two weeks to be eligible for the prize.  Not to point anyone out ... but a few people have signed up, have zero dings, and have not checked in at all.  If we don't here from you all contest-long, and then you magically reappear on the deadline date, and miraculously have lost 20 lbs and have not had a single slip-up... that's not gonna fly.  I don't think it's too much to ask that everyone check in atleast twice a month   Mind you, this new rule does not apply to 90% of you guys

I'm not in this challenge but I am following it as a lurker. I just had to let you know how much I admire you. I am such a sugarholic that it's sad. I'd love to do this challenge, but could probably only hold out a few hours.

All you guys ROCK! You amaze me so much. Congrats to all of you for taking this on!

OK, I'm taking a ding for last night.  In my book it was well worth it.

We had my favorite pizza and I had Diet Coke.  Well, you can't drink water with pizza, now can you?! I'm sure the pizza had plenty of sugar in the sauce too.

No big deal. I should be getting in the pool this week.  See if I can sneak in a night at the gym to run on the treadmill too.  Still no weight loss.  bummed....

Way to go!  I'm not proud of my reliance on sugar, but I think two weeks without any cookies, candies, etc when I used to start every morning with 3 hershey miniatures is amazing to me.

Thank god for orange juice when I get my sugar craving...didn't help when I returned back to work and had dunkin donut minis in the faculty room....but you know what? I said nope, can't eat that.  Before the idea of this challenge, I would have polished off 2 by now.

the cinnamon ones are so evil...

although I have two more dings (in addition to my daily ding of 16oz of diet coke). It was very cold this week when I had biked outside, I succombed to a hot chocolate both times. and it was spectacular!

I'm down 2.8 pounds as of this morning. I'm thinking that's great for starting week three of the challenge. I think dropping the sugar has helped with the stubborn weight loss. I've always lost weight slowly and I'll take a steady loss. If I continue at this rate I may be much closer to my desired body composition at one month out from HIM.

I've been finding this no sugar thing easier an easier and am making better choices overall.

I still struggle in the evening but find that tea is helping. Last night I made the mistake of grabbing regular tea over the herbal stuff and couldn't fall asleep. I need to read the packages. Hope everyone is having a good week.

I'm still using my Infint for long bike rides, gatorade endurance for the runs and recovery chocolate milk after the long workouts. My training nutrition is starting to taste too sweet. Anyone else having this problem?

Replying to Jezzieswims:  I've found in general I can taste things much better now!!  Even a banana tastes different to me now.  It's weird.  My gatorade does taste stonger and sweeter now during my trainer rides, but I like it still!

Confession time again! The holidays are officially over and what do we get in the office this morning? Another tray of goodies, AND I had a brownie at lunch. I just lost all my willpower today. So, I am once again "back on the wagon."

Another ding.  Went out after church yesterday and was totally defiant - ordered a cherry coke...it's almost like a teenager rebelling! ( can someone log it for me?  I still can't amend the spreadsheet)

I find that since I can't have sugar, I'm justifying more fat and cals in my diet ( ex. veggies with dip, when I just ate them plain before) I'm hoping that since the holidays are over, I will get back into a routine with my day to day eating and get back in control of my portions, etc.

On the up side, I feel like my complextion is looking good and I am down 1.2 lbs.

Also, one other question.  I know we can have things where sugar 4th or more on the list, but what about sugar substitutes ( i.e. splenda) that is 4th or more down on the list of ingred.?  There is this low-sugar or "light" soy milk made with splenda that I really like to use for a protein shake, and I assumed I couldn't use it?  thoughts?

So, why is it that I really watched what I ate for about a month and didn't lose any weight (actually gained a pound); and then I eat bad (not crazy bad, but not good) and I lose 2 pounds?  This does not make sense to me!

ETA - I dinged the past 2 days.

Weight loss isn't linear. Sometimes it makes no sense..but know eating well with good quality foods, less sugar, processed foods is always best.

Glad you lost, hope your ding free today.

I have no dings.  I did use my mulligan, no, actually I wasted my mulligan, but so far that's my only "slip" and it wasn't a slip because I planned it.  I fully intend to lose twenty pounds, heck maybe evern thirty pounds (although I am only down about 3 or 4 right now and only needed to lose about 18 from the start of the challenge) by the end of the challenge and will know on Wednesday (when I go to Weight Watchers) what great amount I have lost this week.  I intend to win this challenge, even if it means actually submitting my Weight Watchers tracker for proof, although I can't prove the "no dings" part.  Well, maybe I could submit the declarations of the many people who are watching every bite I put into my mouth and would cheerfully tattle on me if I slip up.

Be warned.  I intend to win.

Leah

Bring it on Kathy   I'm ding free too (so far) ... I'm usually knee deep in chocolate at this point in a challenge. The weight loss is enough to keep me going.

I used my Mulligan and I wish I had it back. Oh well only 8 more weeks to go.

Perhaps I should start mailing Kathy and Leah large gift baskets of goodies to improve my chances.

Good luck everyone .. you're all doing so well.

This month is super stressful for me with grad school and that means I turn to sugar. I am doing much better and eating a lot less, but I had a diet pepsi and it is so much easier than water or something not sugary to drink. Not sure what to do.Otherwise, I'm going to be the one with all the dings. Then again, maybe this will help break all the addiction to sugar.

I'll help you make the gift baskets...it's the least I can do!!! (I'm making an extra basket just for you, too!)

I still have my mulligan and am ding-free too; my weight hasn't budged yet, though, so maybe I'm not a threat!!
