Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group- CLOSED I know why it is quiet, I'm not at work this week! My mom came into town on Sunday and I was at the dentist for way too long on Monday. I HATE THE DENTIST! I found it rather amuzing that while I was nice and happy with my nitrous gas my thoughts kept drifting to training. I was imaging what it would feel like to swim while on nitrous. Pretty good I'll bet. I went for a run tonight. Didn't go long but was trying to go fast. I logged a PB speed for a mile and entire run pace! 9:26/mile on mile 3 and a 9:55/mile pace overall!!! Not fast for some of you out there, but I am proud! Going out for a swim and lifting tomorrow morning to make up for the 2 missed days. I'll have to be creative this week with my mother in town. I only see her 2x a year so I want to spend as much time with her as possible. This is really bad timing - but I'll make it work I guess. |

Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group- CLOSED Hey Tracy and Steve. Enjoy your time with your family as much as you can and then get back into training. Unfortunately my mother passed away several years ago and my father lives in Alberta so I don't get to see him very much. Every 2/3 yrs. As Steve said family first, then triathlons. Tracy congrats on the PB. As you know we love to hear about PB almost as much as tri porn. Didn't do any training yesterday as my right leg was sore. Will be back at it with my 2 hour hockey session today and possibly some ab work this afternoon. I am starting my ab classes again this saturday. I had registered for the advanced class but not enough people registered to make the class a go so I will be doing the regular class again. I am taking some additional education now to help me find another job and this will be taking up a good part of my day. Thank goodness for the settlement I got from the old company. At least I am not stressed out to badly about not being employed right now. Edited by Redknight 2009-01-14 7:12 AM |

Having an 18 month old, it actually works out for some nice time alone w/ my wife (or training) because they are more than happy to spend some time the kiddo. Trevor - are you doing a destination tri? Seems like it would still be mighty cold in Calgary 53 days (but who's counting) from now. I suppose I could go look at your logs, but I'm already here typing...... |

It seems it would be more relaxing with the hustle and bustle of the holidays over. I work with my Mom at our travel agency and with my Dad and brother at our Dive Shop, so we do lots of family time around here. Not much going on for training. I need so badly to run to get ready for my 1/2 mary in March, but just can't seem to find the time. Work is crazy busy, so I don't get outta here til the sun's gone down. Anywho, hope everyone has a wonderful day! Edited by crews 2009-01-14 10:15 AM |

Maybe a pool swim?! Anywho... That is early for my lazy butt.... This weekend we booked a flight (4 of us... one being the wife) down to San Fran to watch the 1st few stages of the Amgen Tour of California.... We are going to chase Lance Armstrong around in a RV and our bikes!!! Oh I can't wait... However I really need to get on the bike and train for a weeks worth of riding!!! Does that count as training? Or am I training in order to Survive?! etc.... Either way it is going to rock! I have a friend that works at Amgen so we have VIP passes for the whole Tour! |

Elite 4108 Calgary,AB,Canada | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group- CLOSED Yes it is destination. Am i've been training for since November....I really wanted to get my first one nder my belt asap. The earliest one in Alberta wasn't until end of Mayish. So I'm heading out to Vancouver,BC. 750m pool swim, then everything else is outdoors. Vancouver is right about Steve there in Seattle so in March it should be pretty mild out. Works out well too...Our 5 year anniversary is in April, so we are going to leave the girls at home, and have a 4 day weekend away! |

I hope the weather is mild enough to be able to enjoy the bike and run portion. I know that in Alberta you might be able to do that stuff if you were to get a good Chinook wind but them you would be fighting the wind. I dislike wind. |

I think Tony has both?! I don't know if he has gotten his powertap yet?! But I have the CompuTrainer and Love it, but you are right it only benefits you inside when you are riding it.... It won't help outside AT ALL! I don't know if you can really compare the 2? IMO I would rather have the CompuTrainer just based soley on the weather.... Spending so much time indoors riding during the junkine months, building your base, strength, and working form?! However, others that live in warmer places and spend a bunch time outside might disagree.....
OR YOU CAN JUST HAVE BOTH!!! I have 3 training buddies that have both... UGH! |

Expert 1007 Missouri | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group- CLOSED Hey there... I was bad last night - I was scheduled for a 3 mile run and I skipped it. DH and I have been trying to get our basement cleaned out and a fitness room set up down there so we decided last night that we needed to get it finished no matter how long it took. It actually wasn't too bad - but we have a lot of stuff that needs to go to Goodwill. We have a nice big area for our TM and weight bench now though, so it was worth it. I'll just have to do some re-arranging of my schedule for the rest of the week. I ordered the Total Immersion swim book from Amazon and it came the other day. I've read the first couple chapters and so far, I'm not sure about it. Maybe after I get through a little more and have a chance to try out the techniques, it'll click more. I understand the concepts, but it doesn't seem to me that it's that different than the way I normally swim. Of course, I can't see myself so I could be totally off on that.

Have you taken a look at the videos on the TI web site? I think they do a better job of illustrating their method. I have the DVD and the book and really felt the DVD worked best. Of course, having watched it, I never went with the technique. For me, it was too much to master. PS No worries about missing your run. Today is a new day! |

this morning i did my first bike and run this year and i was barely able to finish.. I forgot how hard these are. I've been running and then biking before this but the reverse is so much more difficult for me.. I biked for 55min and then ran 3.5miles and during the first mile running i almost fell flat on my face twice! My legs were so wobbly and quads were pretty stiff. I slowed down after the first 1.5 miles and felt much better but during my cool down/walk my quads started to cramp.. now i remember why i hate bike/runs more than any other combo..

OR YOU CAN JUST HAVE BOTH!!! I have 3 training buddies that have both... UGH! Should hopefully have the PT waiting for me when I get home. I do have a computrainer and love it. The CT makes you work when you normally can't outside + there is no coasting so you are continuously pedaling, it has the nice spinscan to show you if you are favoring one leg over another and where the dead spots are in your pedaling. You do get power numbers but I am curious to see how those differ inside vs outside. Another thing with the CT is that it is much tougher to ride than riding in real life. You get no momentum. If you go from -15% grade to +15% grade you don't get all that speed from the downhill to help you up, it is pretty much like riding up that hill from a dead stop. I can't comment on the PowerTap yet because I haven't ridden with one yet but I have read up alot on them. It will be another tool like my garmin or anything else that give me numbers to figure out how to improve on. I'll write up what I experience once I get it installed and up and running. Oh and before anyone thinks I am rolling in dough, I did alot of searching around for these things and got them both via really good deals used.

Great job on the brick, Stanley!!! My legs used to feel similar to tree trunks after getting off the bike, but practice definitely helps. Haven't done a brick since prior to my last tri, so I'm sure, we'll be experiencing tree trunks on the first few bricks once training plan starts...I guess I could always throw in a brick before then! Sounds like everyone else is cold these days. We are having unusually warm weather here, I think it hit 72 yesterday! Have a great Wednesday everyone! |
