Doubled my swim mileage this month - from one mile to two...woohoo!!!

1200m swim as part of an International-distance race this weekend.  Will be a good wake-up call two weeks out from Oceanside.  The water is getting warmer, but still hovering right around 60°.

FYI - In December the schedule of events on the IMCDA website showed a 6am start and 11pm finish.  They have changed this back to the original 7am start and midnight finish times.

Darnit!  I was training for a 6 am start and now they change it back!   What am I going to do????

All your early morning training is not lost.  The simple solution is to just go pro and start at 6:25am.

Thanks for the welcome!

Estimated Feb Totals:
Running: ~200 miles
Swimming: ~8 miles
Biking: ~40 miles

I have a marathon march 20, then it's all swimming and biking, with weekly 40 or so miles running to keep myself and my dogs entertained!

Ya know a 6am start would have likely resulted in calmer water for the swim...I would give up an hour sleep for that.

Wow 200 miles run nice.... what are you shooting for timewise in your mary?

I don't have any issues with a 6am start, being from the East Coast and all.  That would be like starting a race at 9am- perfect time for me!  And you're right- the earlier the more calm the swim and maybe a slightly windy bike.  The wind always seems to pick up during the day in the past IM's I've done.

I've got a marathon April 19 hanging over my head.....just trying to get my run somewhere close to where it needs to be after months of dealing with back issues.  Can't believe CdA is less than 4 months away.  egads.

Bah the Ceder RV park allows pets, but not if you are tenting.  That seems a bit um unfair.  Oh well, guess we will go farther out.  Otherwise we have to board the dog for $20 a day so we will be allowed to pay for our 20X20 patch of grass/dirt.  The search continues.

Baowolf:  I'm shooting for anything under 3 hours for the marathon.  I think it's reasonable without pushing myself too hard and ending up injured with 13 weeks to IM.

16.4 miles today with my huskies, tapering for the marathon.  Swam around 4 miles this week, still need to start getting on a bike more.  Hope everyone is training hard and it's going well!

They may be doing you a favor in the long run.  If this is the same Cedar RV Park that is on both the bike and run course then maybe you would rather stay farther out.  It is right on the edge of a main road and I would bet you can hear the highway noise all night.

Cold and wet for the Desert Tri (International) this weekend in the Palm Springs area. Lake water was 64°, so not too bad there but it started raining as soon as we hit the bike course. Shoes were soaked by the time I got to T2 (at least I wore toe warmers on the bike!). Had a solid run to finally warm up heh.  The race was billed as a local tri club competition between TCSD & LA Tri with a good contingent of collegiates and a few elites.  Good early season primer in "character-building" conditions.  And I survived the swim!

Three weeks to Oceanside. Sprint duathlon in 2 weeks. Daylight savings time is coming - woo!

Swim, swim, swim.

Wow to be able to do a mary sub 3:00:00 in this lifetime even at full out would rock.  I got a slight PR on a 10 miler on Saturday 1:12:14 with some hills (slower than your mary pace).  I am going to have to say my hi/bye to most of you at the swim start, cause I won't be seeing you any time after that.  In training I did a 30 minute TT at 1:45/100 ish lastnight.  As I am typically a 2:00/100 kind of guy, that was smokin fast.  (not 100 percent sure on the speed as it is in the swimspa, but my best guess).  I really need it to not snow every night to make the roads icy.  Hill workout on the trainer is not quite the same thing.

I sooooo want daylight savings time to be tonday!

Oh and we found another campground on the bikeroute that will let us take our fuzzball, like 2 miles to the startline.  So everything is locked in.  Hopefully I can get more training in this month and get a decent build going.  June is going to come up way too fast.  I am not going to do any more races until CDA,  need to not have recovery time get in the way of workouts 8).

i will be right at the 2:00/100 swim time and would love to run a 3:59:59 marathon....  so you will probably be waving goodbye to me as you fly by...      really need to improve my bike time which is what i hope to focus more on this year...

I don't know that I will be able to sustain the swim any faster than 2:00/100, although that is my hope.  My bike last year was 17.1 mph.... and my run was 4:10:00 ish.  So we may be seeing each other quite a bit during the race.  I'll try to beat you to T1, we can take turns passing each other on the bike and then I can try to catch you on the run 8).

I looked at your logs and it looks like atm your swim and bike are stronger than mine and I will have to try to catch you on the run 8).

Tickets to CdA ... check!  Took 40,000 Delta SkyMiles per ticket plus various fees, but glad that I had the requiste 200,000 miles and the seats are now secured.

If you have not booked your ticket(s) with miles then it might behoove you to do that now as the airlines only allocate so many "award seats" per plane - and as they dwindle down, the price in points increases (at least that seems to be the case with Delta).

The website also indicated that there are just over a 100 training days left ... yikes!

Sela & Bao - Sounds like I could be right with you guys too? My swim was slow lastyear, but I did ok on the bike and run. I ended up averaging about 17mph on the bike and a 4:04 run. My transitions were a little slow, as I was really taking the opportunity to examine those bagels with peanut butter I had in my transition bag .

I have really developed my swim this year and my bike feels stronger...but who knows. Lastyear (as you know) it was 45 or 50 degrees, and this year it will probably be 85! That in itself could prove to be challenging.

Anyone buy a lottery ticket for Hawaii??

No lottery ticket for me this year.  CDA is the only shot I've got.  Well, I guess there's Oceanside, too, but you pretty much have to win your AG to get a spot and that's just flat out not gonna happen.

Hooray for daylight savings time.  Open water swims start up in the eves here next week!

Triseattle, et al,

Those times are in the ballpark of where I think I am at (first IM - so only a total guess) so we should try and at least introduce ourselves when we get out to IMCDA so that we can encourage one another during race.
Better yet, it would be really cool for everyone that has used this forum (89 so far) could meet up at a certain location - maybe right before or after mandatory athlete meeting to see each others faces and have some others to encourage during the race. Just a thought - might be logistically too difficult.

Wife and I would definitily be up for at least a quick meeting of everyone.  This will be her first IM, and while any encouragement is appreciated, having someone you know is that much better...  I remember very vividly seeing Jared (Tell3131 - another Kansas City guy) on the run at CDA a couple years ago and him yelling enouragement to me on the run, definitily got me going better than the rest of the crowd.

Maybe we could just pick a time and place on Friday (think that would be better than Sat?) for those that want to show up?  How about some course preview swim/bike/runs?  I know I'm going to want to get out and check out the course a bit.  I am completely unfamiliar with the area, but I think it would be cool set something up for those BTers that want to do a meet 'n' greet.

Assuming that there is a Gatorade swim Friday morning, how about we work around that?   I ran into some BTers in WI, and it was great.  Hubby & I are both racing.

Usually there are two BT swims and one get together (historically at Tobin's house).
