Considering I had no bike for two weeks of Feb and spent about a week traveling to Iraq...February went pretty darn well....Bike: 7h58m49s - 106.4 miRun: 9h05m57s - 41.01 miSwim: 8h03m33s - 19600 mStrength: 3h05mStretching: 1h45mWalking: 2h30mAnd I've really done a whole lot more walking than that...I just don't log my daily walking here in Iraq...but it's a lot.

57 straight days of working out without injury! Consistent numbers too. Do need to get bike mileage up but I've had quality rides.

February's totals:
Bike:28h 55m 39s  - 570.06 Mi
Run:14h 53m 50s  - 123.51 Mi
Swim:15h 04m 50s  - 40000 Yd
Strength:3h 53m
Stretching:8h 25m

January's totals:
Bike:31h 28m 28s  - 610.09 Mi
Run:15h 41m 13s  - 128.15 Mi
Swim:14h 08m 16s  - 40800 Yd
Strength:6h 25m
Stretching:9h 55m

Your swim totals for Jan and Feb combined are more than my entire season last year.  And I did an IM lol.  That makes me sick thinking about being in the pool for that long.

Phatknot's last two months training is very similar to many folks doing IM's big months before IM.

Wonder what you will be doing August-October?

I have a very flexible schedule that allows for alot of training. And I take advantage of it for so many reasons. Please don't get discouraged when comparing to me.

Sadly I am not much faster for all the time put in, but I do have confidence in finishing that I didn't used to have. The goal this year is to make IMFL2010 the year of the 10! But, I appreciate all of what each and everyone of us do to get to the start/finish lines and don't take anything for granted.

This is a really good point.

Here on BT we are a supportive community. It can be easy to compare numbers of pace, hours training, speed, race times, etc.  and have that be a bit of a downer for someone new or with limited time or not winner in the genetic gift department. We all do this for different reasons and having that IM on the horizon is motivator to swim, bike and run fitting it into our lives as parents, spouses, employees. We each have our own story and our own journey to write...celebrate others accomplishments and don't find it intimidating.

on the ga board i posted about taking a day off being hard for me, and got some good feedback, so much so that I took the day off today!

when i did imaz, i was so impressed with the emotional side of things for so many triathletes. it had me in tears over and over. thats why i love the long course more than any other distance. it seems to have the most spiritual uplift  (if thats a word).

I don't like rest days either..or even 1 workout days. I have to much time on my hands and I think I like my endorphin fix a lot.

Before 1/2 Mary I had two swim only days, and today is just a easy spin if I feel like it day...not my favorite days...tomorrow Crossfit and swim.

I found it amazing the things I learned about myself training for my first IM. How I handled stress, unknown and more I saw the pattern of how I handle it in training/racing similar in different circumstances in other areas of my life often over the years. It has been helpful for me to learn and grow as a person with the help of sport.

I think IM training and racing can be a wonderful experience on many levels if you allow it to be so.

I read that thread in the GA forum and didn't know you have had a similar journey to mine....lost a lot of weight and found a new lifestyle.

I had a really bad February. Got sick again which wiped me out for just over a week, then work got in the way, the weather was bad yet again, etc, etc, etc.

Bike: 4h 14m 42s - 40.48 Mi
Run: 3h 02m 50s - 16.81 Mi
Swim: 1h 53m 57s - 4300 M
Strength: 3h 00m

Had lots of dog walking hours in there too (looking after my friends dog) but I've not logged them this time.

March has started much better. Had a really hard but good brick session today and yesterday I ran my fastest 5km. That may have had something to do with the dog though! Think he may have been pulling me along.

i have only read the first 12 pages of this thread so i apoligize if this is discussed in pages 12-24 and i'm bringing it back up, but . . . .

i was wondering what wheelset you prefer for IM Florida???
if you've raced IM FL in the past, what wheels did you run? (depth??? tub/clinch?? disc rear??)
how are the roads? smooth? crappy?
if somehow you flatted twice and only had one back up tube, is there a help vehicle on the course?

this will be my first full IM, but my 4th year tri-ing (sprints, olys and 1 HIM)
i'm planning on going with RaceDayWheels but am struggling on which set i want to go with.
i was thinking Zipp 808 front and 1080 powertap rear, both tubular.

thoughts???

thanks in advance guys!

Good questions..you may want to search race reports and read some folks race reports from previous years to learn about the course. One section is rather rough if I recall what others said. The '09 bike course was slightly different from previous years with some rollers friends shared with me.

It can be windy for long stretches especially at the start or finish along the beach as it is often equated to a tunnel with all the high rise condos.

I ride tubular Zipp 404s with power tap hub but wouldn't rent a pair. Who knows how well they are glued on and I'd worry about trying to change one that I didn't own if I did something. If I rented them I'd rent clinchers.

They do have bike mechanics on the course...usually about 4-5 sets. It depends if you have an issue where you are and where they are how long you have to wait. Often other racers pass on the word you need help at aid stations or with police who contact them.

I bring Pitt stop with me and spare tubular and a crappy old spare and another pitt stop in bike sn.

ill be rocking the hed 6/9's stallion build with wireless 2.4 pt for clydes. clinchers cause im a bit slow and would never know how to change a tubular.

shanks, my coach, is a wheel rep for echappe and he is doing IMFl so he might be able to score you a better rental price if you hit him early. he's on BT.

Feb totals for me - a little skewed by specific events

Swim - 0hrs
Bike - 38hrs (includes 375 mile circuit of Puerto Rico)
Run - 14hrs (includes 8 tuff miles & build up)
Weights - zip

Joined a masters class last Monday, so have 3hrs swim banked this week - apparently my stroke is a disaster (nothing I didn't know)

Hi all, I don't post on here much although I do keep track of most of the conversation via those cute little emails BT sends me with the responses.

Any color shirt would work for me as long as it stood out enough to make it easy for us to spot each other. I would much prefer a tech shirt to a T shirt - I wear them a lot more often!

My February started out awesome but then withered to a halt and ended pretty dismally. I must learn how to have the discipline to work out even when I am on vacation or something like that and learn how to convince my husband that I need to do this so he won't get mad at me for it!

Need the opinion of my fellow IMFL folks.

I've ridden with the Team in Training cycle team the past couple of years and belong to a yahoo group for the cycle alumni. I got the following message this morning from one of the alumni:

_______________________________________________________________

Bored with yet another century ride? Riding 100 miles passe? Need a bit more of a challenge? Something leaning towards ultracycling? I have just the remedy...

This is a heads-up/save-the-date announcement for the 2nd annual Dawn to Dusk 200. The DD200 is an informal, non-organized, one-day 200 mile ride conceived by non-other-than me. Last year I was joined by Shelly Hobbs and Cindy Schlandt on the inaugural run. Cindy and I completed the whole enchilada and Shelly got close with 180. Rumor has it she will make another attempt this year.

The target date for this years ride is Saturday, June 19 - nearest Saturday to the summer solstice for maximum daylight; will roll at 5:00am. Backup dates will be June 26 and July 3 in case of rain. Details and map will be forthcoming but the route will be essentially the same as last year:

Parmer/McNeil->Manor->Bastrop->Elgin->Coupland->Taylor->Weir(lunch)->Walburg->New Corn Hill->Theon->Georgetown->Florence->Andice->Liberty Hill->Leander->Cedar Park->Parmer/McNeil

Like last year, I'll round up a couple of support people in case sag is needed.

June is a ways off, so you have some time so think it over! Just a day on the bike; but it's definitely a ride for the record books.

If you are interested, let me know.

________________________________________________________
I will be doing a century ride at the end of April and hope to keep high mileage up throughout the summer. Would you consider doing this? Is it too much? If nothing else, I may consider joining them for the first 100 miles as a training ride.

I'm interested in your opinions.

Weather looks nice for next 4-5 days to get some longer rides outside!

I'm excited to ride longer and enjoy time not on the computrainer.

My tri bike will stay on CT for a few more weeks until roads are cleaned up a bit more but riding my cyclocross bike which is fun other than it needs it's brakes replacing.

Anyone else living up North seeing weather allowing for riding outside soon?

I'm up North and the weather is getting much better now, although seeing as we're not on the same continent you probably didn't mean me!

We've had a really bad winter here by our standards. Lots of snow and ice. Thankfully that seems to have passed now. It was glorious here today if still a little cold. I was off today so was able get out for a nice 2 hour ride.

I'm up north as well - southern ontario.  It will be warm enough for hard core people to ride this weekend (around 40F) but I'm not that hardcore and get really cold riding outside if it is < 50 or so.
